Why are some Real Housewives franchises more pleasant to watch than others?

It's almost an intangible quality, certainly nothing that I can put my finger on. But some shows just have a lighter, more airy quality than others, while others are just dark and depressing. I honestly think Beverly Hills is the best of the bunch, because even when things get intense, like they did this past season with Lisa Rinna and Kathy Hilton, there is still a "fun shade" element to it all. Other shows, like Orange County and New Jersey, are just vortex of negativity and I can't seem to get through more than one episode in a sitting. No binge factor whatsoever.

What explains this?

OP is clearly a Kathy Hilton fangurl

There really aren't any physical brawls on Beverly Hills. That's why Lisa Rinna smashing her wineglass was so shocking. On New Jersey, a smashed wineglass would have been the beginning of a brawl, not the climax.

There's a real lack of true Christianity in the other franchises. And I'm not usually one to judge but the OC really brings the God stuff.

The Ultimate Girls Trips have been pleasant enough so far, although Brandi Glanville has put a stop to that with the upcoming fourth season.

I'll never forget Teresa grunting like a wildebeest and pushing Andy into the sofa at the S2 reunion.

BH is going to be dull without Rinna. Kyle seems to just want to be filmed being fabulous and doing banal activities.

R5 I loved how she tossed his ass aside like a ragdoll.

OP it's all about casting and production

certain personalities are more entertaining than others. Certain producers focus on interesting storylines while others are clueless

Most of them are entertainers for a living so that's a big part of it.

RHOC was a mix of angry and/or evangelical bleached blonde, bolt-on titted, REPUBLICANS. In another life, these women would have been doing porn.

They looked cheap.

There was a thin veneer and underneath: racist.

Vicki was unhinged and Tamra wasn't far behind. Hard to watch, at times.
