OMG! Why Didn't You Bitches Let Me Know? The Collection of André Leon Talley - Christie's
by Anonymous | reply 68 | February 27, 2023 3:16 PM |
Guaranteed he sat on this chair while blowing off young male models. He was too heavy to kneel and suck at the same time.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 1, 2023 3:01 PM |
There is no way he was able to cycle this. Even if it is nearly 30 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 1, 2023 3:02 PM |
I knew he was big-boneded but the caftans and ponchos really put into perspective how much of a big’un he was.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 1, 2023 3:04 PM |
Big-boned and with basic, unoriginal taste.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 1, 2023 3:06 PM |
I was in a meeting with him once and he was incredibly tall, on top of being you know, large - I'm 6'3" and he loomed over me
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 1, 2023 3:06 PM |
Wonder did he have a big old pendulous cock under that caftan....
...and under that huge belly.

And that's because the DL search engine is one of the WORST, if not THE WORST, search engine on the internet, ya nasty old crone. Are there people (and there aren't many on this site anymore) still using it? I gave up on it years ago.

Google "datalounge talley" and all of the related threads come up.

I knew Leon through a mutual friend. He was the ultimate fashionista drama queen. Completely over the top about everything, he was also an amazing man of accomplishment in the fashion world.
But in the end, he was careless with some of his important friends and certainly he never worried about his finances. I thought it was a rather sad end to an amazing life story. But, I think he probably would have just ignored the bad and concentrated only on the beauty. comprenez vous?

Well, stop being so fucking dramatic and use Google.
It works a treat and in a fraction of the time required for your rant. But if, instead of your rant, you had entered Talley into the DL search box, the first result is the most recent thread.

[quote]Proceeds from his estate sale, which are expected to top $1m, will go to two historically black churches close to Talley’s heart: the Abyssinian Baptist church in New York and Mt Sinai Missionary Baptist church in his home town of Durham, North Carolina. The gift reflects Talley’s deep faith and his generosity of spirit, which was not always evident in a lifestyle stamped all over with logos and monograms.

Yep, it is foreign to many except for the many who hail from the Black church--particularly the Southern Baptist Black church. There's a whole lot mixed up in that, but it is something that one feels with every pore of their body and every follicle in their head. It is indeed a part of one's soul. That's why you hear those old meters/hymns sung so hard. It's as if they are the last words (if they can even express words by that time) uttered from their mouth, The sorrow, pain, grief, the begging for relief from it all. It's all wrapped up in that. One sees no way out except through religion and the imploring/begging of a God for help. Black folks have gone through some shit and while things have indeed improved, there is still a lot of work to do. Just think of Tyre Nichols who suffered so badly to the point that the only person he thought could help him was his mother. The person who loved and protected him.
The day is past and gone;
The evening shades appear:
O may we all remember well
The night of death draws near.
And when our days are past,
And we from time remove,
O may we in thy bosom rest,
The bosom of thy love.

[quote]According to a profile piece that the Post ran this morning, André Leon Talley takes almost all of his meals at the City Limits Diner in White Plains, which is near his home in Westchester. It’s not uncommon for him to eat there, usually alone, for three meals a day, seven days a week, says chef Peter Assue. However, he can sometimes be a “demanding” customer:
[quote]He doesn’t like to be interrupted mid-chew, and especially not by Republicans, Assue says.
(Eyebrows raise)
What a WONDERFUL and GREAT man he was!
[quote]And if Talley wants lunch before the kitchen is ready, well, the kitchen staff had better get moving. “It’ll be 11 a.m. and he says, ‘Get me the chef here right now. I need to have roast chicken!’” Assue says.

It works, r11. Saying that it didn't work back in 1902 and therefore you simply don't use it anymore is very silly, especially when you use a title like this, implying there never was a thread. The OP of the third Melinda Dillon thread today did the same thing.

Here is my hope... because I'm a vindictive bitch, that once the two churches that Mr. Talley willed this money to receive it, that the two respective Pastors stand up in the pulpit on Sunday morning and condemn those of the "religious" and "Christian" followings who have been and are SO evil towards gay people and the gay community. This is a teaching moment. You just don't know when or where your help and strength will come from.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 19, 2023 8:22 PM |
A few things here. Why didn’t any of the celebs he boosted involve him in their fashion endeavors? I’m guessing he was hard to deal with on a daily basis and not connected to reality about things like budgeting, finance and logistics. You can also tell he had a lazy streak about him and likely took a lot of shortcuts. I do admire how far he got in what is essentially a white woman’s domain!
He really shoud’ve stayed in Anna’s good graces, there’s something bad there we’ll never know, and it’s also sad he didn’t find a partner that could’ve helped him near the end. I also think he should’ve made the effort to further his education when he was making good money rather than rest on his laurels.

What's that old idiom? "You're only as successful as your last deal/record."
IMHO, there's a lot wrapped up in all of this. I'm sure at some point (right or wrong) that Andre believed his own press. Then you have the racism aspect (wait a minute folks) that is real but not just only for him. I posted on a political thread that President Obama could not go after Republicans that way that President Biden does because of the times. He could only go so far. Does anyone else remember the Professor Henry Gates Episode? I also remember certain things that remain in my mind such as a look of bewilderment and astonishment by Eric Cantor as he looked at Obama. It was a look of; "You got here before me?" or Marco Rubio when he said, "This country isn't ready for a Latino President." On and on... Yep! Things have gotten better but there is A LOT of work to do.
Then it was reported that Andre was a terror to work with and for. Also, he has fallen out of favor with many of those who he called friends and who far exceeded his clout. He and Karl Lagerfeld were at odds, Anna Wintour, and more. "He didn't know his place and where he properly fit in."

[quote]The comforter-like coat was made even more famous in the days leading up to the auction as it was reported to be the inspiration for Rihanna’s red puffer coat worn during her 57th Super Bowl halftime show. After the Super Bowl performance, Talley’s Instagram page posted a photo of Talley in the coat alongside several photos and videos of Rihanna on stage. “’When the sun shines, we’ll shine together. Told you I’ll be here forever … said I’ll always be your friend,’” the post read, quoting Rihanna’s song, “Umbrella.” Christie’s estimated its value at $500 to $800, but it went for over $25,000, according to the auction site.
[quote]Two pieces of art by Talley’s personal friend Andy Warhol netted some of the largest sales in the auction. One is a small canvas painting of a candy box that reads “TRUE LOVE.” The other is a screenprint mixed-media collage of former Vogue editor Diana Vreeland atop a horse, mimicking a painting of Napoleon Bonaparte, which was dedicated to Talley.
[quote]The third item was a set of three Louis Vuitton trunks personalized with Talley initials. The three lots were sold for $94,500 each.
The Warhol candy box lid didn't reach estimates. The estimate was $150k-200K USD. It sold for $94,500
