Op, you don’t want to have a pet that eats more than you do.

by Anonymousreply 4February 1, 2023 12:55 PM

It didn't have the ending one would have expected.

And preferred.

by Anonymousreply 5February 1, 2023 12:59 PM

Dad! Tell that story again about how you let me feed the pretty Elk carrots and he bit off my hand and gored me through the left side of my face. I love that story!

by Anonymousreply 6February 1, 2023 1:03 PM

Deers are a menace from what I've been told. They are beautiful though.

by Anonymousreply 7February 1, 2023 1:13 PM

R7- Deer aren't a menace

Humans are a menace to Deer.

by Anonymousreply 8February 1, 2023 1:15 PM

Parents with cell phones and instagram accounts are a menace to humanity.

[quote]Op, you don’t want to have a pet that eats more than you do.

Oh, honey, that would be impossible.

by Anonymousreply 10February 1, 2023 4:18 PM

It's not safe to feed wild animals. It could cause injury and even death.

by Anonymousreply 11February 1, 2023 4:21 PM

OP, that clip of the Elk looks a little dangerous.

[quote][R7]- Deer aren't a menace

[quote]Humans are a menace to Deer.

R7 and R8 are both right. Deer ARE beautiful; if you've never seen them live/in the wild, you should do so before you die.

Interestingly, in 2023 there are more white-tail deer in the United States than there were in George Washington's lifetime, for three reasons: 1) Clear-cutting of virgin forests in the 1910s-1940s, which opened thick tree canopy and allowed deer to forage and population to grow; 2) DMAP, the initiative from wildlife biologists and hunters to essentially grow more, healthy, deer; and 3) Biologists focusing on Chronic Wasting Disease in deer after their numbers had plummeted to the point of declaring them an endangered species.

Result: more deer-human encounters. And you're right, R7, in numbers they ARE a menace to home/farm owners; they will DESTROY your flower gardens and vegetable gardens. My late uncle had to install electric fencing to protect his greens, carrots, and pretty much everything in his gardens.

But yes, they are stunning to see and watch.

Read the comments on the video R3. I initially thought the same thing, but this is at a zoo, where you are encouraged to feed the animals.

They appear to be fairly domesticated.

by Anonymousreply 14February 1, 2023 5:36 PM

R14 ok thank you for that information. Sorry I was such a Debbie Downer!

by Anonymousreply 15February 1, 2023 5:49 PM

R14- Like this sweet big beautiful Elk in Canada.

I had elk for NYE dinner.

It tasted like beef. It was juicy and tender. Very good

In that same trip I saw several deer in the front yard of the cabin we were staying in. They were just staring at me and the little Norwich terrier I was with.

Beautiful creatures. Seemed peaceful and serene.

by Anonymousreply 17February 1, 2023 6:59 PM

R17- I didn't know you're a vegetarian.

by Anonymousreply 18February 1, 2023 7:08 PM

I prefer kudu

On the flip side, there are less slaves in 2023 than there were in George Washington's lifetime.

And for one reason. That mother-fucker Lincoln.

by Anonymousreply 20February 1, 2023 7:33 PM

Hopefully that family will also try to feed bears and lions

by Anonymousreply 21February 1, 2023 7:49 PM

R3 I saw that story on that show “so you think you would survive?” Very interesting! If the elk are in the wild very dangerous. But I believe this is at a zoo. I would just be too afraid of getting gored!

Decades ago I was in grad school in Boulder. My major professor and her husband had me over for dinner all the time. One long weekend visit at their mountain cabin, the other house guests were an elderly English couple who'd retired from the Bodleian Library, and some dude I can't remember. I took a long hike alone, and suddenly a GIGANTIC elk appeared not 5 feet away from me. "Stunning" doesn't even begin to describe that animal. Of course I hadn't brought my camera.

When I returned to the cabin I told everyone what I'd seen. The 3rd guest (not the old couple) was actually PISSED. He kept quizzing me about exactly where I saw the beast, and generally acting like I was lying. He'd spent the week tramping around looking for elk and hadn't seen one.

I can still see that elk and its beautiful surroundings.

R21, why the hate?

This was in a safari in a zoo where they encourage people to feed the animals.

Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 24February 1, 2023 9:43 PM

How nice for you to share youtube videos from a foaming at the mouth antivaxxer.

Don't give this pathetic moron traffic, ladies.

by Anonymousreply 25February 1, 2023 11:03 PM

[quote]R8 Deer aren't a menace

If you like Lyme Disease, they’re great!

by Anonymousreply 26February 1, 2023 11:19 PM

Wow, R25, that is some CRAZY shit on that YouTube channel.

by Anonymousreply 27February 2, 2023 1:46 PM

[quote] This was in a safari in a zoo where they encourage people to feed the animals.

Then this is a disaster waiting to happen.
