In the late ‘90s, my sister and I went into an AOL “Days of Our Lives” chat room and started a rumor that Frances Reid had died basically because we were bored. The rumor was still going strong for days afterwards and I felt a little guilty about it. But was also inculcated early on with the fact that people can just lie on the internet and there are zero repercussions.

I have vague memories of watching Days in the 1990s in college, but one thing I remember clearly was Frances have to say the line: "Bo has a deep and abiding love for Hope," and she said it in the same false, canned way that Deirdre Hall and Jaclyn Smith would deliver most of their lines.

In a 1968 interview Frances referred to herself and Phillip as "gypsies," who owned five homes at the time. They had more than house in Brentwood. There were two houses on one lot. She said they'd sometimes let "showfolk" stay in the second one. The latest purchase was just four blocks away. The other two homes were in San Francisco, and Bucks County (très gay in '68!).
