80 For Brady

A group of friends made it their life-long mission to go to the Super Bowl and meet NFL superstar Tom Brady....In what universe do the producers of this moronic shit think we live in? It's obvious the film can only be marketed to middle American football lovin' NASCAR-loving, bloated Americans. Oh, dig the interracial casting in these woke days of Hollywood sensitivity! I guess Ruby Dee wasn't available, and if she were, she'd probably be turning over in her grave. And who would think of putting Hanoi Jane Fonda as a lead in a film only playing for white folk. It's a joke! She is fucking DESPISED by that crowd. .......Did anyone see the poster??? In what universe could these leads appear as they really are? Hags with dropping faces, not this fantasy of photoshopped fakery? NONE!!!!! Jesus H. Christ...........Bet it was financed by the cosmetics industry with name-brand droppings all over the script to show the old hags and bags of the USA, you can look like this! Just try our product.

I got shot down for creating a thread about this movie several days ago.

by Anonymousreply 1January 29, 2023 1:06 AM

This is beyond cringe-inducing.

First of all, FUCK Tom brady.

Second, who in their right mind thinks everybody likes that cheating asshole?

Thirdly, nobody likes the patriots except for assholes in Boston.

Fourthly, these actresses clearly did it for the money, which diminishes them in my mind.

It’s supposedly based on a true story but, people will not be interested in this.

by Anonymousreply 2January 29, 2023 1:19 AM

These actresses should be so embarrassed

by Anonymousreply 3January 29, 2023 1:20 AM

OP it is called acting. Below is the story that inspired the film.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 4January 29, 2023 1:22 AM

And what about this casting? Do you honestly think these actresses are going to draw a current Covid phobia audience? After all only 50+ movie goers would even stop to think about going to this piece of dreck

by Anonymousreply 5January 29, 2023 1:29 AM

Imagine Bette and Lillian Gish on that poster.

by Anonymousreply 6January 29, 2023 1:41 AM

I could care less about the movie, but what a great cast of ladies! I bet they had a blast filming and could not have cared less about Tom Brady.

by Anonymousreply 7January 29, 2023 1:49 AM

Pass! Billy Porter is in it. I hope it bombs spectacularly since practically every other tv commercial is for this shit movie.

by Anonymousreply 8January 29, 2023 1:52 AM

You can all have a pasta and salad combo at the Olive Garden with the money you’ll save by not buying a ticket to this movie. Maybe you’ll chill the f out about a silly comedy absolutely no one is forcing you to see. You’ll feel better after lunch. Think of the unlimited 🥖.

by Anonymousreply 9January 29, 2023 1:54 AM

I'm starring in the new film 80 For Shady. Catch it in a theater near you! I filmed it in between modeling sessions!

by Anonymousreply 10January 29, 2023 1:55 AM

Just sayin...

[quote] She is fucking DESPISED by that crowd.

The crowd that despises her is dead, Klan Granny.

by Anonymousreply 12January 29, 2023 1:58 AM

I hope this movie is a sensation just to piss you off, OP.

by Anonymousreply 13January 29, 2023 1:59 AM

R4- It's not called acting - it's called EMBARRASSING.

by Anonymousreply 14January 29, 2023 2:01 AM

Let those old broads do whatever crap they can get hired for. They ain't gonna be around forever.

by Anonymousreply 15January 29, 2023 2:04 AM

1. The marketing for this movie is weird, and it looks somewhat embarrassing for the actresses in it.

2. Please calm down, OP. Remember your heart troubles.

by Anonymousreply 16January 29, 2023 2:05 AM

At least The Winds of August had seasoned actors all, who weren't playing young cougars. And Lindsay Anderson knew how to direct. Bette and he had no problems. She had it with Lillian

by Anonymousreply 17January 29, 2023 2:08 AM

I expect it to do "Avatar" numbers at the box office.

by Anonymousreply 18January 29, 2023 2:21 AM

The point being, r17, that Whales was 36 years ago and shows how different the roles are now for senior actresses...not to mention plastic surgery.

by Anonymousreply 19January 29, 2023 2:22 AM

Anderson admired many things about Davis and understood she was ailing, but after she died he wrote that her feistiness "was not fun. It was destructive and ugly."

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2023 2:24 AM

Obviously made for the lucrative Chinese market.

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2023 2:37 AM

R7 "I could care less"

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2023 2:43 AM

OP you really need help if you are this worked up over this film.

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2023 2:45 AM

I wouldn't have wanted to be around her at that time, r20. She wasn't in good enough shape then. But...she did things the hard way.

by Anonymousreply 24January 29, 2023 2:48 AM

I wouldn't have wanted to be around her at that time, r20. She wasn't in good enough shape then. But...she did things the hard way.

by Anonymousreply 25January 29, 2023 2:49 AM

Sorry for the echo...

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2023 2:49 AM

Starring Lily, Sally, Jane and Miss Coozeburger.

by Anonymousreply 27January 29, 2023 3:19 AM

Rita Moreno couldn't even carry an episode of "The Golden Girls".

Who'd she blow to get this part?

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2023 3:51 AM

They did Sally Field dirty in that poster. Jane, Rita, and Lily all look like their on their way to meet rentboys. Sally looks like Rita's unmarried, unemployed niece who will be dropping them off on her way to Marshall's.

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2023 4:19 AM

*they're on their way

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2023 4:21 AM

Brady isn’t with the Pats anymore.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2023 5:01 AM

Jane looks like Charo.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2023 1:50 PM

[quote]In what universe do the producers of this moronic shit think we live in?

One of the producers is Tom Brady, who thinks you'll eat up this shit.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2023 3:22 PM

Movies featuring elderly actors have been around for years. The popularity of the Golden Girls on tv probably made a lot of it possible.

Grumpy Old Men Grumpier Old Men Out to Sea Odd Couple II

All these are Matthau/Lemmon vehicles made in the 90's but there are a few movies featuring elderly actors.

by Anonymousreply 34January 29, 2023 3:23 PM

On Golden Pond

Cocoon

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2023 4:29 PM

I volunteered, but they only wanted Academy Award winners.

by Anonymousreply 36January 29, 2023 4:36 PM

[quote]Pass! Billy Porter is in it.

Pass! Guy Fieri is in it. (At least he's in the trailer.)

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2023 4:43 PM

What about the equally cringe soundtrack song for the movie with Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper and Belinda Carlisle??

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2023 4:59 PM

Rita Moreno? Diane Keaton must have passed. I’d love to hear the Rita stories. Maybe she’s mellowed now that she’s over 90.

by Anonymousreply 39January 29, 2023 5:06 PM

Everyone I know both male and female HATE Brady

by Anonymousreply 40January 29, 2023 5:07 PM

I think Guy lives in a trailer, too R37

by Anonymousreply 41January 29, 2023 5:08 PM

Jane Fonda. Straddling a North Vietnamese cannon and now look at her. What a world.

by Anonymousreply 42January 29, 2023 5:09 PM

Are Jane & Lily playing Grace & Frankie?

by Anonymousreply 43January 29, 2023 5:12 PM

The old bags this shit is based on seem like real cunts. The only other man in this world who gets them as riled up as Brady is trump.

by Anonymousreply 44January 29, 2023 5:13 PM

The airbrushing on that image of those broads is through the roof--especially on Field.

by Anonymousreply 45January 29, 2023 5:20 PM

I just need to know if the character Jane Fonda plays in the film is wearing that silly looking wig for a reason, not because she thinks it looks good.

by Anonymousreply 46January 29, 2023 5:28 PM

This movie screams FRAU!

by Anonymousreply 47January 29, 2023 5:30 PM

The combined age of those 4 is 335.

by Anonymousreply 48January 29, 2023 5:32 PM

R42 = one of the Republican fraus who can't let go of ancient history

by Anonymousreply 49January 29, 2023 5:38 PM

From the way she writes, I can only imagine that R42 is as old as Fonda.

by Anonymousreply 50January 29, 2023 5:41 PM

Eighty! Sally Field is the only of those four who's under 80!

by Anonymousreply 51January 29, 2023 5:43 PM

And I heard they do it in BLACKFACE!

by Anonymousreply 52January 29, 2023 5:43 PM

OP, Ruby Dee died in 2014, so no, she wasn't available. You're quite stupid, aren't you?

And FUCK the Vietnam war. Fonda was right.

by Anonymousreply 53January 29, 2023 5:46 PM

I don't ever want to see an "old person goes on a bucket-list pilgrimmage" movie. Or a four old-friends movie, such as The Book Club, where the friendship is wholly improbable. Or one in which it's cute that a senior citizen is having sex. This movie fits into all these categories. The only saving grace is that Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton and a Nancy Meyers kitchen are not part of this.

by Anonymousreply 54January 29, 2023 5:54 PM

Agreed, R54. Schlock for the oldsters.

by Anonymousreply 55January 29, 2023 5:56 PM

Fonda looks positively ridiculous in that wig. If she gets her face stretched any more it'll end up in her twat.

by Anonymousreply 56January 29, 2023 6:27 PM

Does anyone else find it ludicrous that they're selling a movie about 80-ish year-old women when every woman in that poster has had work done, and that poster is using Photoshop to make all of them look like they're well under 80?

by Anonymousreply 57January 29, 2023 6:35 PM

[quote]Are Jane & Lily playing Grace & Frankie?

No, they're playing Vi and Judy.

by Anonymousreply 58January 29, 2023 6:36 PM

[quote]is trump.

When you don't capitalize, it means something totally different.

by Anonymousreply 59January 29, 2023 6:41 PM

Good review in the NYT yesterday.

"The only thankless role goes to Sara Gilbert as the daughter tasked to nag Tomlin’s character about her health; Gilbert’s stuck in reality while everyone else is doing jazz hands with Gugu (Billy Porter), the halftime choreographer."

by Anonymousreply 60February 2, 2023 6:12 PM

I feel bad for the lead actresses to the extent that they just want to keep busy but have to work with such terrible material.

by Anonymousreply 61February 2, 2023 6:16 PM

The film was released today, February 3rd.

Brady retired (or so he says...) on February 1st.

Coincidence?

by Anonymousreply 62February 2, 2023 6:20 PM

Has that smug cunt Anjelica Huston crashed this movie yet?

by Anonymousreply 63February 2, 2023 6:26 PM

[quote]The film was released today, February 3rd.

Psst. Today is the 2nd.

by Anonymousreply 64February 2, 2023 6:32 PM

I was always ahead of my time, R64, if less than precise about the date - I thought today was Friday and have all day - and you're right.

by Anonymousreply 65February 2, 2023 6:40 PM

[quote] Psst. Today is the 2nd.

Maybe he is posting from Australia

by Anonymousreply 66February 2, 2023 6:48 PM

Maybe he’s posting from the future.

Lemme get the Powerball numbers, bro!

by Anonymousreply 67February 2, 2023 6:51 PM

Fucking hell, but do I hate films about old white chicks being "sassy."

And this one sounds markedly mire miserable than the usual formulaic shit.

I suppose the stars can't refuse a big paycheck and having their names discussed, but the producers and directors should be killed. The better to make a little room for someone, anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 68February 2, 2023 7:05 PM

R60 Does Gugu wear a half-tuxedo, half-dress combination in all scenes?

Because Billy Porter has envelopes to push, y'know!

by Anonymousreply 69February 2, 2023 7:56 PM

I feel bad for Sally Field.

Lily and Jane were already on this path with their more recent projects…but this is a new LOW for Sally.

by Anonymousreply 70February 2, 2023 8:28 PM

Several reviews I read indicate that the "humor" is of the usual and expected "old ladies talking dirty" kind. How said these actresses must be reading such a wretched script but having to smile their way through it.

by Anonymousreply 71February 3, 2023 3:17 PM

It will appeal to the old ladies. Same market Poms had.

by Anonymousreply 72February 3, 2023 3:26 PM

I just got home from seeing it. Harmless fun. Sally Kirkland is also in it.

by Anonymousreply 73February 3, 2023 10:32 PM

Does Jane appear in a tank? Does she roll over Vietnam vets?

by Anonymousreply 74February 3, 2023 10:44 PM

Why didn't they get Sally Struthers too?

by Anonymousreply 75February 3, 2023 10:44 PM

Sally hates Rita’s ass that’s why.

by Anonymousreply 76February 3, 2023 10:53 PM

R74 You're old and confused. You must be thinking about a different movie. This movie is about football.

by Anonymousreply 77February 3, 2023 11:03 PM

I'd watch anything with Jane, Lilly and Sally. I bet it's camp. I dont really know Billy Porter but why do the gays never, ever support gay celebs...it's very obvious here on DL, but also in the real world. Is it because their success makes us feel inadequate? Is there One gay man that DL likes????? Probably Monty Clift...but without going back that far...It's quite telling...why don't we support our own, do you think?

by Anonymousreply 78February 3, 2023 11:04 PM

Released just in time for the SuperBowl. They probably hoped Brady would be playing.

by Anonymousreply 79February 3, 2023 11:26 PM

Some people are tired of superheroes, people constantly pulling firearms on other people, and car crashes being passed off as entertainment.

Not that this sounds entertaining either, but there’s probably a teeny tiny demographic out there that likes popcorn enough to watch it.

by Anonymousreply 80February 3, 2023 11:42 PM

I’d rather see

AIDSY FOR BRADY

by Anonymousreply 81February 4, 2023 12:22 AM

People forgave Jane for Vietnam but they never did for Barbarella.

by Anonymousreply 82February 4, 2023 12:46 AM

"A sequel to Barbarella was planned in November 1968. Producer Robert Evans said that its working title would be Barbarella Goes Down, with the character having undersea adventures."

by Anonymousreply 83February 4, 2023 12:48 AM

Rita Moreno screams CUNT.

by Anonymousreply 84February 4, 2023 1:40 AM

I just saw "80 for Brady".

You know a movie is in trouble when Tom Brady, who I can't stand, is the best, funniest thing about it.

And he isn't even that funny.

Truly, I feel embarrassed and bad for Field, Fonda, Moreno and Tomlin. Is old age really a time to be so desperate?

I thought it was the opposite; that if you had enough money, fame and a career, as these 4 have, that stood for itself, and the last thing you wanted was to debase yourself the way these 4 women do in "80 for Brady".

Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 85February 4, 2023 2:16 AM

Their plastic faces scare me, when did it become a crime to look like a grandma when you ARE one???? Sally looks like least tweaked on, probably a classic facelift (not muscle deep) and nothing else.

by Anonymousreply 86February 4, 2023 2:21 AM

"Truly, I feel embarrassed and bad for Field, Fonda, Moreno and Tomlin. Is old age really a time to be so desperate?"

Because there are so many roles out there for 85-year-old actresses!

by Anonymousreply 87February 4, 2023 2:22 AM

I'm sure you have a point, r87. I just don't know what it is.

by Anonymousreply 88February 4, 2023 2:25 AM

My point is that they're taking the roles that are offered to them. They want to work.

by Anonymousreply 89February 4, 2023 2:29 AM

I won’t see this in theaters, but I’m charmed by the concept. It reminds me of the fare I was able to experience should I choose to as a young ‘un, like The North Avenue Irregulars, Where Angels Go Trouble Follows and Choo Choo and the Filly Flash.

by Anonymousreply 90February 4, 2023 2:30 AM

r89, have you watched "80 for Brady"?

If you have seen that train-wreck, and still think that their decision to work, when they're just embarrassing themselves, is the right one, well, enjoy your principled, righteous stand.

Watching "80 for Brady" is uncomfortable and embarrassing.

And, you'd have thought the dreadful screenplay would've dissuaded them from what is a very bad decision to be in this awful, awful movie.

by Anonymousreply 91February 4, 2023 2:46 AM

"If you have seen that train-wreck, and still think that their decision to work, when they're just embarrassing themselves, is the right one, well, enjoy your principled, righteous stand."

I've never seen it, and don't intend to. Not sure why you think I'm "self-righteous" to point out that there aren't a lot of roles for women that age, so people take what they can get. That's a fact. If you don't like it, fine. But that's the way it is.

You keep attacking me but you're the one who watched the previews for this and thought it was worth paying to see.

by Anonymousreply 92February 4, 2023 2:56 AM

nope, r92, seeing this movie wasn't my choice. In fact, I wanted to avoid it, but it wasn't my turn to choose the movie.

I'm "attacking" you?

You must be a DL newbie. I've been here for 20 years and if you think my posts are "attacking" you, well, I just don't know what to say to that.

by Anonymousreply 93February 4, 2023 3:01 AM

R93 "nope, [R92], seeing this movie wasn't my choice. In fact, I wanted to avoid it, but it wasn't my turn to choose the movie. "

You seem embarrassed, which is odd, considering this is an anonymous site

by Anonymousreply 94February 4, 2023 3:17 AM

Okay, you were FORCED to see this movie. Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 95February 4, 2023 3:21 AM

LOL at the OP and others who are so affronted by this movie’s existence. Those ladies are way talented. This genre goes back at least to The Golden Girls.

Fuck off, OP. Find something meaningful to care about.

by Anonymousreply 96February 4, 2023 3:26 AM

I’m just here to hate on Tom Brady.

by Anonymousreply 97February 4, 2023 3:27 AM

There are a lot of clucking old hens up and down this thread. And I’m not talking about the women in the movie. To paraphrase Lucy Ricardo: I can’t wait for you to lay those eggs.

by Anonymousreply 98February 4, 2023 4:41 AM

Do any of them show clit?

by Anonymousreply 99February 4, 2023 4:48 AM

Why are they feeding old people dog crap?

by Anonymousreply 100February 4, 2023 5:16 AM

Funny because I read an interview Field just did with People and she said something to the effect of she usually turns down these type of movies (I assume she meant Book Club) because there’s more to older women then finding another man, or something like that.

And yet she agreed to do this crap? Book Club might as well be The Godfather compared to this.

by Anonymousreply 101February 4, 2023 7:01 AM

Five Oscars between these old clams, and they’re peddling this shit.

Each new movie could be their last. Do they really want to risk going out with this one?

by Anonymousreply 102February 4, 2023 7:27 AM

My guess is the money was too good to pass up that was offered them. It looks horrible, but each one has done some bad films anyway, so they figured we will shut our mouths and be a little richer.

by Anonymousreply 103February 4, 2023 11:07 AM

Most if not all of them will soon be forgotten. They have zero shits left to give, including Hanoi Jane.

by Anonymousreply 104February 4, 2023 2:58 PM

Don’t you have better things to do than rave about a Hollywood fluff entertainment?

by Anonymousreply 105February 4, 2023 4:45 PM

Also everyone on this press junket acts like they can’t fucking stand Rita Moreno - especially Sally.

by Anonymousreply 106February 4, 2023 5:31 PM

Rita has a problem with women named Sally

by Anonymousreply 107February 4, 2023 5:49 PM

No, it wasn't art. It was fun. I enjoyed watching them have a good time. LOL, some of you act like you were expecting Mother Courage or Antigone or something.

by Anonymousreply 108February 4, 2023 7:16 PM

How sad and pathetic. They should have called it "Four Crones and a Brady."

I'm surprised those desperate crones Diane Keaton and Bette Midler didn't star in it, too.

by Anonymousreply 109February 4, 2023 7:20 PM

R109 Diane was too busy starring in that crap movie with Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon (which may be even worse than this one).

Speaking of, I saw the trailer for Book Club 2, and never realized she got first billing over Fonda. That surprised me.

by Anonymousreply 110February 4, 2023 7:26 PM

The NFL producer/PR shills are out in full force here. But they should be careful insulting DLers as old. They are the target audience for this movie.

Looks like they arranged to have movie theaters lower the price for all showings. So in a way that they have to literally pay people to see this garbage.

by Anonymousreply 111February 4, 2023 11:17 PM

It's just a movie.

by Anonymousreply 112February 4, 2023 11:20 PM

It's just a movie that further promotes and glorifies violence in our society and encourages participation in a sport with many proven health risks such as permanent brain damage.

by Anonymousreply 113February 4, 2023 11:27 PM

R113 you must be a delight to hang around.

This is why I hate movie reviews.

I saw it today. Was it Casablanca? No but it took me out of my troubles for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. It’s not going to change the world. The script was fine and the four of them have great chemistry. I laughed and that’s all that mattered.

by Anonymousreply 114February 4, 2023 11:32 PM

Saw it today. My in-laws (who are in their 80s) wanted us to take them. It was just fine for what it was…a little fun afternoon flick. It was actually much better than I thought. I don’t think anyone was going in expecting Citizen Kane. Everyone in the audience other than my husband and I were 65+. Lots of laughter. I could have happily lived without ever seeing it, but it was a fun day. All the little senior citizens at the showing were having a good time, which was sweet. Hell, my husband and I are in our 50s, so I guess we are senior citizens, too. The in-laws enjoyed it; dubbed it “cute.”

I kept thinking of The Datalounge when Tom Brady was on the screen and all the delightfully bitchy things written about him here!

As for the actresses, Sally, naturally, came off the best, but they all were fine. I was surprised to see Sally Kirkland! Ultimately, don’t rush out to see it, but catch it when it starts streaming,,maybe on a rainy afternoon.

by Anonymousreply 115February 4, 2023 11:44 PM

Sad that anyone is attending.

by Anonymousreply 116February 4, 2023 11:55 PM

I love Sally, Lily, and Jane. Can’t stand Brady but I would watch this for fluff entertainment when it comes to streaming. Fluff is sometimes necessary in this sad world.

by Anonymousreply 117February 5, 2023 12:20 AM

I never realized that Lily and Jane were such good friends that they would keep working together.

Of course, they obviously missed the opportunity by not having Dolly - people would have watched simply to see them reunited better than they did in Grace and Frankie.

by Anonymousreply 118February 5, 2023 12:28 AM

Dolly's not an actress. She plays herself. She probably wouldn't play her own age so why ask her? She did the theme song.

by Anonymousreply 119February 5, 2023 2:43 AM

I agree with you R15, let ‘em have their fun.

I know a lot of people liked that movie, Steel Magnolias (this reminds me of that) but honestly I don’t get it. That movie. Oh well.

I saw the promo for this movie the other day, thought it was a funny fake meme. Wow. Well, if it comes around where I see it I’ll take a peak but my expectations are not way up there. But let ‘em have their fun.

by Anonymousreply 120February 5, 2023 2:50 AM

Jane has another movie with Lily Tomlin that just dropped a new trailer. It looks equally awful. I wonder if they think are a great plastic surgery comedy duo.

by Anonymousreply 121February 5, 2023 2:57 AM

[quote]Hell, my husband and I are in our 50s, so I guess we are senior citizens, too.

You are officially...junior-seniors, r115.

by Anonymousreply 122February 5, 2023 2:58 AM

Diane Keaton getting top billing is a mystery for her Book Club movies with Jane, unless she only agreed to do them under that condition.

by Anonymousreply 123February 5, 2023 2:59 AM

Jane's Hollywood clout took a beating due to her decade as Mrs. Ted Turner.

by Anonymousreply 124February 5, 2023 3:58 AM

Plus her hideous clown face

by Anonymousreply 125February 5, 2023 5:39 AM

I know it's probably corny as hell, but I hope it does well.

Sick of all the superhero movies, so disgusted that evil Charles Manson Junior is being promoted in The Flash.

by Anonymousreply 126February 5, 2023 6:21 AM

I'm old enough to remember Laugh In and dare I admit I have never cared for Lily Tomlin?

I'll show myself out........

by Anonymousreply 127February 5, 2023 6:23 AM

R124 Jane’s Hollywood clout took a beating because the last movie she did that made any money before “Book Club” was On Golden Pond in 1981. Agnes of God, the Morning After, Old Gringo, Stanley and Iris…bomb bomb bomb.

by Anonymousreply 128February 5, 2023 1:26 PM

I went to the movie theatre to see this with friend yesterday. My God, it’s awful.

It’s exactly the formula you think—octogenarians go on a girl trip and do wacky things, including taking drugs by mistake. Complete paint by numbers

The extreme plastic surgery of Jane Fonda is jarring

by Anonymousreply 129February 5, 2023 2:17 PM

The scene where Tom Brady fucks Lily Tomlin was gratuitous.

No one needed to see her topless

by Anonymousreply 130February 5, 2023 2:19 PM

[Quote] I just got home from seeing it. Harmless fun. Sally Kirkland is also in it.

Kirkland’s long history of facial surgeries makes her face look like a truck hit her

[Quote] Five Oscars between these old clams, and they’re peddling this shit.

Old biddies doing wacky things!!

by Anonymousreply 133February 5, 2023 2:21 PM

R132 there’s plenty of projects on streaming they can do, not to mention some theatrical films outside the Marvel universe. Like I said up thread, I’m sure it was the money that talked that got them to do this. All actors do junk for the cash sometimes. It is what it is.

by Anonymousreply 134February 5, 2023 2:32 PM

[quote]I’ll take a peak

It's not just actors; it's even one of us

by Anonymousreply 136February 5, 2023 3:51 PM

This was actually #1 at the box office, displacing Avatar

by Anonymousreply 137February 5, 2023 3:52 PM

[quote]there’s plenty of projects on streaming they can do, not to mention some theatrical films outside the Marvel universe.

Really, r134? What were they offered and turned down to do this? Please be specific.

by Anonymousreply 138February 5, 2023 3:56 PM

Actually Jane Fonda looks better in this than Austin Butler did in Elvis.

by Anonymousreply 139February 5, 2023 4:08 PM

R138 I’m saying in general, but I’m sure you knew that already. Rita doesn’t work as much as the other three. But there are more options for actors now than there has ever been. This movie has no pretense at being anything other than what it is. They were most likely made a lucrative offer and they took it. Sometimes you’re better off being practical and cashing in. I doubt the four of them will turn into Nic Cage and do solely crap films one right after the other.

by Anonymousreply 140February 5, 2023 4:27 PM

It came in 2nd, not first. Not bad for a shitty movie. They initially said $13 million but then downgraded it to $12.5.

by Anonymousreply 141February 5, 2023 4:41 PM

Brady's a sweetheart, he just needs to be brought down to Earth sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 142February 5, 2023 4:54 PM

R138 if I were them, I would cash out vis a vis commercials and endorsements and continue to do the Annette Bening kind of interesting roles which I’m sure don’t pay all that well but at least the chance to do good work is still there.

I’m all for making bank but I feel like that’s the more dignified way to do it - and at least you still get to act - and maybe snag a nomination if you’re lucky.

by Anonymousreply 143February 5, 2023 5:15 PM

Are any of them capable of doing good work? This is probably the best they can do.

by Anonymousreply 144February 5, 2023 5:19 PM

To the poster who keeps defending these 4 ( and has stated they haven't watched this stupid, embarrassing, movie) are you under the impression I don't get it that ageism is real?

this is r85 and r91.

Of course ageism is real, and wrong.

But I don't back away an iota from declaring what my own eyes and ears saw when I watched this terrible movie- Field, Fonda, Moreno and Tomlin abased themselves by taking these roles.

And no amount of pointing out, correctly, that they want to work, and the scarcity of roles for women their age, takes away from that.

by Anonymousreply 145February 5, 2023 5:29 PM

My assumption is Brady is desperate to move into movies, which is why he just retired from football again

by Anonymousreply 146February 5, 2023 5:46 PM

R146 Do home movies count?

by Anonymousreply 147February 5, 2023 5:48 PM

My assumption is that Brady wants to make more money, whether in movies or on TV.

Conveniently and doubtless coincidentally, he won't have to share that money with Giselle.

by Anonymousreply 148February 5, 2023 5:51 PM

R148 I assume he'll get offered a nice contract as a commentator or something. It won't compare to his football money, but still.

by Anonymousreply 149February 5, 2023 5:52 PM

R149 He got offered, and signed, a $375 million, 10-year contract with Fox Sports last week.

His football money, per se, wasn't all that great: about $235 million from the Pats after 20 years, another 80 million or so for the 3 years in Tampa.

by Anonymousreply 150February 5, 2023 5:58 PM

R150 So much for his retirement not being real this time.

by Anonymousreply 151February 5, 2023 6:19 PM

He’s already got enough money he can spend in 50 lifetimes. I don’t think he’s looking for a career in film. He’s too old at this point. Hope this fame whore fucker can just go away now. I know he will start his Fox gig later this year, but it won’t be as prominent as his media spun greatest quarterback of all time bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 152February 5, 2023 6:30 PM

R145 You 100% did not watch this movie.

by Anonymousreply 156February 5, 2023 11:20 PM

I think Sally Field is a bit more serious than the others so for her this may be a little bit of slumming, but I hope it does well. It's nice to see older actresses starring in movies, although it's a bit silly.

by Anonymousreply 157February 5, 2023 11:26 PM

I wish, r156.

by Anonymousreply 158February 5, 2023 11:29 PM

I fear that, if this does well, they’ll make a crappier sequel

by Anonymousreply 159February 6, 2023 12:43 AM

85 the sequel: 80 and a nickel for Dick Trickle!

by Anonymousreply 160February 6, 2023 12:48 AM

I suspect it was an opportunity for the actresses to work together; nothing more, nothing less. Jane and Lily wrapped Grace and Frankie (which I loved! Can't beat Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Jane, and Lily together!). What are the chances they would have an opportunity like this again.? None of them are expecting a GG or Oscar. I'll watch it when it's available to view at home because I like all 4 actresses. I will, however, hurl when I see TB.

R161 seriously? Nostalgia must be a helluva drug because I can’t think of a male/male couple on TV with less chemistry than waterston and sheen. Has Lily done anything genuinely funny since Laugh In? Has Jane Fonda ever been funny or given a good performance since Klute?

by Anonymousreply 165February 7, 2023 9:16 PM

I thought this would bomb. Seems like they will recoup their money. I guess it’s a good thing for movies that something like this is a modest hit. Brady really is a winner at life.

by Anonymousreply 166February 9, 2023 1:44 PM

I got a kick out of it. It's based on a true story. This movie is just marshmallow fluff escapism which harms nobody. It's not Euripides. It's not Shakespeare. Movies like this are the equivalent of a Saturday morning cartoon for adults. Who does not know these things?

The p.r. is laying me flat. Sally Field friggin' well hates Rita Moreno. Jane and Lily act like an old married couple. What really went on behind the scenes?

by Anonymousreply 173February 9, 2023 4:28 PM

This was the type of movie that was guaranteed to at least make back its money. The biggest expense was the 4 leads salaries and compared to top Hollywood stars, they gave them only a small %. At this stage, the ladies were just happy to get out of the house to work a few days and the free lunches. There's just enough combined "star power" here to cover the very modest movie budget.

by Anonymousreply 174February 9, 2023 4:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 176February 9, 2023 4:41 PM

Glad that this is doing very well. A shout-out to Hollywood to cast older actress. I'm surprised tho that Lily Tomlin got first billing. I thought either Jane or Sally should got it and the other one with the 'AND'.

by Anonymousreply 177February 9, 2023 4:45 PM

When Marlon Brando cheated on her Rita back in the day she briefly considered suicide. Those instincts should've returned when her agents offered her this pile of cow manure. Imagine having a prestigious career most of your life and then resort to the scraps towards the end. Meryl would never. Even Betty White(R.I.P.) if she were still living would've laughed this off.

I can't think of any Hollywood greats didn't do their share of schlock if they were over 75 and still churning out movies and TV. At that point they became either invisible, scarce, or schlocky.

by Anonymousreply 192February 11, 2023 6:05 PM

R191, I never watched Glee and couldn’t imagine that week after week. Prom over a 90 minutes span was mindless fun

by Anonymousreply 193February 11, 2023 6:30 PM

The first half-season of GLEE (first 13 episodes) is some great TV and storytelling. If it was released as a 13-episode limited series, it would be hailed as a masterpiece. It was a rollercoaster half-season with a beginning, middle, and end. Lea Michele's character was very Tracy Flick-esque and delicious. She truly earned her Emmy nomination that year. People were not yet breaking out into musical fantasy sequences, and the music was not overwhelming every scene. It was simply a quirky dramedy series with occasional musical performances instead of what it became in the second half of Season 1 -- a jukebox musical of AutoTuned covers of latest pop hits.

What happened was Season 1 went on hiatus for the winter break and the soundtrack to the first half of Season 1 was released just before Christmas 1999 and became an enormous bestseller, peaking at #4 in the US and Canada, #3 in Australia, and #1 in the UK an Ireland. So when the show returned in April 2000, they put more focus on the music over anything else, because the goal now was to sell music, more than anything.

It's amazing how a show can change so much in just a few months.

R195 Likewise.

by Anonymousreply 197February 12, 2023 8:35 PM

Just watched this movie - rates as one of the worst films I have ever seen in my life. It could have been better with the right cast - like drop Sally Field and Rita Moreno, and just add Dolly Parton for a '9 to 5' reunion. Get better writers, someone with comedy skills, and they could've had a fun movie with this concept. As it is now - don't bother.

by Anonymousreply 198March 9, 2023 5:50 PM

Didn’t this movie make $35M at most? It barely broke even since they spent so much to promote it.

by Anonymousreply 199March 9, 2023 7:52 PM

It cost $28M, has been in theaters for four weeks, and it has grossed $38M. So it's made a $10M profit so far - which means there is also room for 'part 2'. Let's hope not.

by Anonymousreply 200March 9, 2023 7:58 PM

The studio only collects 50% of the gross.

by Anonymousreply 201March 9, 2023 8:26 PM

This was a 90 minute commercial for the NFL that they got some idiots to pay to watch.

It wasn't about making a big profit so that they can make more movies. The money came from the NFL budget to help keep fraus to let their children play football.

by Anonymousreply 202March 9, 2023 11:21 PM

Renting now on Comcast for $19.95 Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 203March 10, 2023 2:07 PM

If you can't get enough of Tomlin / Fonda, they are on THE VIEW today.

by Anonymousreply 204March 10, 2023 3:02 PM

I watched the first half of the interview in which all they did was talk about the movie - the 1980 movie "9 to 5" that is. Nothing was mentioned about '80 for Brady'. Tomlin looked awful and did the least amount of talking - Fonda overtook the conversation.

by Anonymousreply 205March 10, 2023 5:56 PM

I was expecting this to be Trog level, but it was actually enjoyable. It was only mildly woke. It has a simple story with a conflict and resolution. The kind of movie they use to make, it was funny too.

I lost about 30 IQ points watching this mess.

Super 8 R209

by Anonymousreply 210April 22, 2023 2:09 AM

I just watched this on Prime.

I have thoughts

1) what happened to Lily Tomlin? It’s like her mouth doesn’t work and she talks strange. Also her face looks like her jaw has weights in them.

2) Poor Sally Field. You can tell she was embarrassed by this and she should have been.

3) Rita came off okay and gave heft to the dramatic scenes (if u can call them that) but I don’t think she was a good fit as she was clearly 90 and acted much older than the rest.

4) It’s amazing to me that Jane Fonda of Klute, Coming Home, and Julia became Jane Fonda of 80 for Brady.

by Anonymousreply 211April 23, 2023 12:25 PM

Do we get to see Gronk's dick again?

by Anonymousreply 212April 23, 2023 12:34 PM

[quote]It’s amazing to me that Jane Fonda of Klute, Coming Home, and Julia became Jane Fonda of 80 for Brady.

When Jane Fonda returned to showbiz in 2005, I was surprised that she would choose "Monster-in-Law" as her comeback vehicle. Since then, she really hasn't tackled any roles demonstrative of her talent. But then again, good roles for 70+ women are few and far between. Yet still, "80 for Brady" is the best she can do?

by Anonymousreply 213April 23, 2023 2:48 PM

Jane's best work this century has been in foreign films: All Together, and Youth. She's also done well in Moving On, Our Souls at Night, and This Is Where I Leave You.

by Anonymousreply 214April 23, 2023 4:37 PM

Jane's Best Role, too was Red Carpet Star, even, if not mostly, in her last appearances at the Academy Awards or the Emmys.

When she appeared on a Red Carpet, you knew a Staaah had arrived.

I'll always be a fan of hers for that.
