Why does every couple on TV have a queen size bed?

One would think most would have king sized beds

I don't understand the point of king size beds.

R1 if you have a partner, once you try it, you’ll never go back

Queen for couples, king for couples with dog.

it's subversive to let you know who is actually queen of the house...

ultimately, it simplifies things... it's a more standard size to cheaply supply or when necessary to design for. For the most part, queen beds are a more universal size than king size. Bedrooms on most sets, particularly sitcoms can be quite small... so every inch matters. Often you'll find when they do employ large beds they take up the majority of the space. You get the suburban sized living rooms but the apartment sized bedrooms. The placement is often the same too. Too symmetrical... evenly spaced. Also, the beds are rarely weighed down... you'll notice this most when the leading characters are obese.

besides, beds have always been taboo... remember the twin bed phase? Network/studio and inter/national standards is another headache. Some have really inane policies on that stuff. They're more relaxed about beds these days but toilets are still on the dividing line. Albeit, there's practical reasons not to include them.. inevitably someone will use it when real restrooms aren't available.

Easier to get them in the shot.

King size is good for couples, with or without a dog, IMO. I'm not tall or fat, but I'm a starfish sleeper (arms and legs splayed out).

Lots of couples have ridiculous-sized beds (too small). I forgot who it was, but one couple I knew slept on a full-sized bed.

Couples who want to have sex all the time want to be sleep together--usually the ones who are middle-class or wealthier each moves to a separate queen-sized bed in a separate bedroom when they're less interested in sex.

King-sized beds (or California Kings) are usually only necessary if your pets sleep with you or if you regularly bring a third partner in to the bedroom for threesomes.
