How optimistic are you about the future?

I need encouragement.

by Anonymousreply 20January 21, 2023 6:43 AM

We’re fucked.

by Anonymousreply 1January 20, 2023 5:19 AM

I believe the children are our future.Teach them well and let them lead the way, show them all the beauty they possess inside. Give them a sense of pride to make it easier.

The future's so bright

I gotta wear shades

by Anonymousreply 3January 20, 2023 5:31 AM

I’m actually frightened

by Anonymousreply 4January 20, 2023 6:02 AM

I'm trying to be positive. Then I read the news, and think we're in real trouble. So many monsters in politics , kids being kidnapped ,raped and murdered. Celebrities, who seem like straight up trash. Social media isn't helping either. I've had to pull back from it, because it does become a problem. Kids have access to, to many confusing and dangerous things. I'm trying to stay positive though, lol.

The extinction event meteor can’t come quickly enough.

by Anonymousreply 6January 20, 2023 9:15 AM

The only time during my life I've felt things in the world were actually improving was the late 1990s. That stopped on 9/11.

by Anonymousreply 7January 20, 2023 9:48 AM

Sorry OP. We are all in big trouble right now.

by Anonymousreply 8January 20, 2023 10:03 AM

I'm never optimistic about anything. I always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. I've been saved from so much disappointment in my lifetime this way.

by Anonymousreply 9January 20, 2023 10:11 AM

OP, no offense, but Datalounge is the last place to go if you want to resolve or pause your existential angst.

Well, I am glad I’m not young right now. At 58, I hope I made the right choices professionally and financially and socially. I will be ok. Yet many, many of my friends may not be. Some of my most creative, fun, and socially dynamic friends are secretly broke, unable to find work that pays anything (they are trapped in this gig economy trying to sell content or trying to become paid coaches and advisors, and not quite successfully).

The world is really, really disrupted right now, and a lot of things we thought were so great are unstable and may not really last. Today Google’s parent company announces big layoffs, like so many other ginormous tech conglomerates. I think, in retrospect, all that twittered wasn’t gold, and I see a lot of people aging out of their professions really fast. 30 is the new 40. Maybe people are healthier and living longer lives, but my sense is that the quality of these long lives might not be so great. Many of our parents will outlive their assets and leave less that’s the last generation, and our generation’s retirement seems a lot less secure.

Sorry to be a glum chum, but I think this next decade might be harder than the last.

Like a lot of you I'm trying to remain optimistic. I like to think that the pendulum will swing and at some point we'll look back and laugh at the cancel, victimhood, and woke cultures. Things have been bad for years now with social media and the people and policies in Washington. However, again I like to remain positive.

by Anonymousreply 13January 21, 2023 1:21 AM

I try to remain positive but I’ll be honest I’m scared. Men wearing genderless clothing and the shift from meritocracy to equity are sad and scary things.

R14, is a unaware troll

by Anonymousreply 15January 21, 2023 2:30 AM

We hear this every year but we are still okay....

by Anonymousreply 16January 21, 2023 2:39 AM

This all feels like the old system breaking down so we can rebuild a better one. This one can burn.

by Anonymousreply 17January 21, 2023 2:41 AM

Have you looked out the window or watched the news recently or paid any attention to anything R16?

That's a genuine question.

I'd really like you to be right R17. But [bold]still[/bold] we aren't doing anything at all about climate change. Just business as usual and the effects are visible now all over the planet and it's just getting started.

It's an inside job, R18. All we can do is the inner work on ourselves and maybe, just maybe, the outer world will begin to match our inner landscapes.
