Trump as GOP nominee would be such a gift to Democrats. Imagine the infighting, and the humiliations in defeat, and the standard bearers of the party like Susan Collins and Mitt Romney having to either grovel for the forgiveness of Trump and his minions or swallow their pride and support him for the third straight time. It would kill the Republican party faster than Covid kills an unvaxxed deplorable with COPD. Dems would retake the Senate and build on those gains while the GOP is lost in the post-Trump wilderness for a decade or more. It could spark a viable third party or a major realignment of the GOP, but Dems would be running circles around any opposition in the mean time which could be many years.

My initial thought was that he would pass on this, and feel better off letting Trump run and lose. Later more or less saying "I knew it! Told ya so!" My bet is that he's going to give it a pass at the last minute, which I believe would be this summer?
Trump has already said that if Guv Ron were to actually enter the race, he'd slice and dice him like a ginsu knife. The guy's a clinical narcissist, who'd go full throttle hardcore vicious on someone he saw as so much of a threat.

The majority of the GOP hates Trump. They’ve supported Trump because they thought he could win. They will vote for Ron. Ron will be the nominee and Biden will have to work big time in beating him. Hopefully Trump destroys Ron’s image with voters and maybe even runs as an independent.

19 -- TRUMP HAS INCREASED HIS STANDING AS FAVORITE IN A PROSPECTIVE GOP PRIMARY; DESANTIS IS SECOND FAVORITE AND GAINING GROUND IF TRUMP DOES NOT RUN
22 -- BIDEN HAS IMPROVED HIS LEAD AS TOP CHOICE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY. HARRIS LEADS IF BIDEN DOESN’T RUN BUT DEMS ARE LESS CERTAIN ABOUT A PREFERRED CANDIDATE
24 - TRUMP WINS A HYPOTHETICAL HORSERACE AGAINST BIDEN BY +4 POINTS AND AGAINST HARRIS BY +10 POINTS

26 -- HALEY IS WITHIN RANGE OF BIDEN (-2) AND AHEAD OF HARRIS (+5) IN A PRESIDENTIAL HEAD-TO-HEAD
27 -- MAJORITIES SAY BIDEN SHOULD NOT RUN FOR A SECOND TERM, SAME FOR TRUMP
28 -- MOST VOTERS WOULD SUPPORT A MODERATE CANDIDATE OVER BIDEN AND TRUMP
31 -- MOST SAY THAT, IF INDICTED, TRUMP IS LIKELY TO BE ACQUITTED
MOST VOTERS THINK THE INDICTMENT IS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED

It wasn’t difficult to turn the tables, the only people left in the Republican Party are Dumpers. There are members on the periphery that know Dump can’t win a general election, and those are the ones pushing for DeSantis, but they’re in the minority.

Supporting Trump now and him getting his shit pushed in by Biden again means Trump is removed as a GOP candidate for good. Clean slate, no chance of a 2028 comeback. Which means smooth sailing for DeSantis or (whomever else on the right) at the 2028 change election.

The Harvard-Harris poll released Thursday shows that 45 percent of registered voters back Trump versus 40 percent who back Biden. Another 15 percent of voters are undecided. Trump slightly expanded his lead compared to last month’s Harvard Harris poll, which found him leading Biden at 45 percent to 41 percent respectively
2024 Presidential Election Poll
(R) Trump: 45% (+5) (D) Biden: 40%
(R) Trump: 48% (+10) (D) Harris: 38%.
(R) DeSantis: 43% (+3) (D) Biden: 40%
(R) DeSantis: 43% (+2) (D) Harris: 41%

These mother fuckers WANT to be lied to. Why? Because they’re just that fucking stupid. There is just not a nice way to say it, there is no polite way to say it — they’re so fucking stupid that they desire lies. This is what we get for not erasing Confederate leaders, and that is no bullshit. We allowed this thinking to not only stay alive, but to thrive! You want out of the United States, you want to secede? Then GTFOH if America is just soooooooo awful.
Trump is running again, oh yes he is. And just like last time, he might win again!!!! So get off your fucking device and start volunteering immediately. Research has shown that the most effective way to change voters minds is by peer-to-peer conversations, not political ads on sm or cable tv. It comes when real life people simply talk to other people.
We need to make sure black turnout is higher because it was low in midterms, and they are our base, black people need to hear more talk about restorative justice and keeping violent crime low. We need to make sure women are reminded every day that abortion is fucking gone, and they were lied to that it would not be touched. We need to show gay people all of the legislation being passed and let them know that marriage equality IS at risk, much less other forms of hatred and discrimination. We need to prove to Gen Z that their votes matter. We need to show independents that they are banning books across this country, raising taxes, and trying to eliminate access to healthcare and social fucking security.
If cheating and propaganda weren’t on table, 2024 would be the Dems race to lose. But we are still in uncharted waters where propaganda will be stronger than 2016!! We are in serious shit, all gays need to reclaim their voices and get out there into the community. We have a history of grassroots activism, we need to reignite.

R159 my theory is that the Dems don’t push too hard because if they go Donkey Kong on the GOP and attempt a corruption enema, it will make everything come out from both parties. Dems have corruption too (but no comparison to the actually evil GOP) in regards to owning stocks in companies that they are writing “beneficial” legislation, engage in insider trading, corrupt real estate deals, fraud, etc. Both parties have found the loopholes in multiple areas of laws, ethics codes, tax codes, and regulations. And they are all making money off of our pain. I’m not a troll, I am a progressive, I vote Dem and am deeply grateful to Biden.
Just today I read that the prick TX judge who stopped the abortion pills submitted his full financial disclosure to the Judicial Ethics Committee (I think that’s the name) and in it, his personal wealth is $5 - 20mil, 85% of his wealth is tied to a single business — and he redacted the name out of the disclosure form 85 times or something. And they *let* him do that, and now he’s overriding the fucking FDA. He’s a Trump appointment (obviously) and I don’t have all details, but corruption all through our government, at all levels, in all three branches is top of mind for me. They all reek with the stench of corruption, put pressure on your Congress Persons to turn up the pressure even more on the GOP. They need to acknowledge that we are in a Cold War against a third of our nation.

I would say Illinois does a good job of that sort of thing, although the big problem is that they have made life unpleasant for everyone, instead of just people of the other party. They need to find a way of making their policies not make life unpleasant for everyone.

70 percent of Americans do not want Biden to run for a second term, compared to only 26 percent who do.
Among those who don’t want the 80-year-old president to pursue a second term, 69 percent cite age as a reason why, with 48 percent calling it a “major” reason.
The NBC poll shows 41 percent of Americans plan to vote for Biden in 2024, compared to 47 percent who say they will back the Republican nominee.
38 percent have a positive view of Joe Biden, compared to 48 percent who have a negative view.
34 percent of Americans hold a positive view of Donald Trump
Substantial majorities of all Americans don’t want Trump or Biden

No way on Kamala or Pete, we need them where they are. We have a bench of talent in our governors *right now*. Whitmer and Beshear could win. Klobuchar’s message matches Biden’s winning message too. Biden’s message wins, it’s just that most don’t want him as the messenger. Any of these three could run and win. Also, Tim Ryan and the WI Dem leader (his name escapes me) should be running strategy along with Abrams. We have the talent, we just need them in the right positions. And they MUST be under 60!!!!!!!! I need to think outside the box of POC candidates at this level. It’s shocking we have no black governors, is that accurate? A winning ticket does need a person of color, but no more wasting time discussing Michelle, she understandably doesn’t want it. I would *love* to see Ted Lieu on a national ticket. My biggest crush is Hakeem, but again, he’s right where we need him right now. I would love to see a progressive in a cabinet position, maybe Ro Khanna. We should be able to safely pluck some talent from CA for other federal positions because we are safe there. But to run for WH, the message has to be carefully crafted. Tim Ryan gets it.

Your biggest crush Hakeem Jeffries is cozy with the Nazi collecting right winger that has a special relationship with Clarence Thomas.
Tim Ryan couldn’t win in Ohio. And he lost to a Trumper. The same scenario would play out on the national stage.
This country won’t be voting for a woman for president for quite a while. That isn’t misogynistic to say. It’s factual. I want a woman as our president. Maybe Michelle Obama could do it buts it laughable to suggest Amy or Whitmer could win on the national stage. This country hates women in power. There is a reason why in 250 years there hasn’t been a female President. It’s also why there has only been one non-white president.
Also, you can’t “safely” pluck anyone from anywhere. New York State was always “safe and reliable” but it went right wing and cost the Democrats the house in 2022. If blue New York hadn’t fucked up so spectacularly, then your crush Hakeem would have been speaker and MTG wouldnt be on committee assignments.
California could easily do the same if enough small districts flip.

R178 That's not what I'm seeing - Biden leads in about half the polls and the polls are all so close, well within the margin of error. (Also I prefer 538 who are more objective - Realclearpolitics is a Republican site and they have a bias - cherry picking polls.) Also, you haven't mentioned how other potential Dem candidates like Buttigieg, Harris poll significantly worse than Biden in a hypothetical match ups with Trump and DeSantis.
But regardless it's really the swing states that you have to watch. And I think the signs from the midterms (where you would expect a sitting party to do badly) are promising in those states.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | May 4, 2023 12:10 AM |
The electoral vote system makes the national popular vote questionnaire relatively meaningless. It's all about a few swing states, that aren't as conservative on social issues as red ones where Biden is completely hated.
