Marie Osmond's kids won't get an inheritance: "For reasons which are well known to them"

Marie Osmond isn't budging on her plan to leave her children out of her inheritance.

The former country singer, 63, opened up about her plans to donate her wealth to charity instead of leaving it to her seven kids.

"Honestly, why would you enable your child to not try to be something? I don’t know anybody who becomes anything if they’re just handed money,” Osmond told Us Weekly. “To me, the greatest gift you can give your child is a passion to search out who they are inside and to work. I mean, I’ve done so many things from designing dolls and much more. I love trying and I wanna try everything. I’m a finisher.”

Osmond, who found fame at a young age as a member of the famous Osmond family, is mother to eight children: Stephen, 39, Rachael, 31, Jessica, 35, Brandon, 26, Brianna, 24, Matthew, 23, and Abigail, 18. In 2010, her 18-year-old son, Michael, died by suicide.

The singer firmly believes that leaving wealth can discourage the younger generation from working hard.

"That’s one of my rules with my kids. If you start it, you finish it, you don’t ever have to do it again, but you gotta finish. And, I just think all an inheritance does is breed laziness and entitlement. I worked hard and I’m gonna spend it all and have fun with my husband," shared Osmond, who remarried ex-husband Stephen Craig in 2011, more than 25 years after their divorce.

Osmond first revealed her financial plans back in 2020 during a segment on The Talk in which the hosts were discussing Kirk Douglas, who died in February of that year at age 103. The movie star left most of his multimillion-dollar fortune to charity.

“I'm not leaving any money to my children,” Osmond explained to her co-hosts. “Congratulations, kids. My husband and I decided that ... I think you do a great disservice to your children to just hand them a fortune because you take away the one most important gift you can give your children, and that’s the ability to work."

Osmond added that children of wealthy families often “don’t know what to do” and “get in trouble." “Let them be proud of what they make, and I’m going to give mine to my charity," she added.

Despite her statements, Osmond elaborated that she has no problem helping out her children financially through their lives, whether it's to purchase a home or a car.

Encouraging her children to find financial success on their own is an important lesson for Osmond, who previously explained that she has found tremendous value throughout her six-decade career in the entertainment industry.

"I've been very blessed to see my work as work and my life as life," she told Yahoo Life in January 2022. "I think that's where in show business a lot of people get lost. Maybe their self-worth is invested only in their work. But I love life and I don't have to be on stage to be happy. I can always be happy."

I don't think living with her and the creepy doll collection could have been easy.

by Anonymousreply 1January 15, 2023 8:27 PM

If she's gonna virtue signal like that she should also share how much she spent on education, help with housing, etc. etc. etc. because the likelihood her kids are starting from the ground up seems pretty low me. I worked for a millionaire who liked to make the same boast and his little darlings were scattered around the world with trust funds and homes in London and New York etc. etc. etc. This line is usually bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 2January 15, 2023 8:27 PM

Said the woman who piggybacked to fame on her brothers' shoulders. I'm sure if she was born Marie Hendrickson her music and doll designs would have been just as profitable.

by Anonymousreply 3January 15, 2023 8:27 PM

I like it when nepo babies like this it had doors in advantages that most people spend a lifetime trying to get lecturing the rest of us on hard work.

by Anonymousreply 4January 15, 2023 8:29 PM

She's a nepo baby, she shouldn't lecture people about making it on their own

by Anonymousreply 5January 15, 2023 8:29 PM

Hm, I don't think I'd call Marie Osmond a "nepo baby." Doesn't that mean they have famous parents? She doesn't, as far I know. Marie Osmond was part of "The Osmonds" singing group, and if I recall correctly, made her money by her own work.

by Anonymousreply 6January 15, 2023 8:31 PM

[quote] Marie Osmond

CUNT!

by Anonymousreply 7January 15, 2023 8:33 PM

Do her kids still talk to her?

If I were one of her kids, and she made this announcement, I would be out the door and never come back.

Fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 8January 15, 2023 8:33 PM

Marie was never part of "The Osmonds" singing group.

by Anonymousreply 9January 15, 2023 8:33 PM

r9 you are incorrect, she did sing with them but it was rare. Please see wikipedia on the subject.

[quote] Their only sister Marie, who rarely sang with her brothers at that time, launched a successful career in 1973, both as a solo artist and as Donny's duet partner. By 1976, the band was no longer producing hit singles; that year, they transitioned into television with Donny & Marie, a popular variety show that ran until 1979.

Still not a nepo baby.

[quote]If I were one of her kids, and she made this announcement, I would be out the door and never come back.

I think that’s what she wants. If you want to move out of the mansion and make it on your own, more power to you.

by Anonymousreply 11January 15, 2023 8:47 PM

the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by giving them jobs

nepo baby, riding on her bigger brothers' groovy 70's coattails.

by Anonymousreply 12January 15, 2023 8:51 PM

So is the "charity" she's donating to is the Mormon Church?

by Anonymousreply 13January 15, 2023 8:53 PM

I wonder why her son jumped off that building

by Anonymousreply 14January 15, 2023 8:54 PM

I think a smarter thing to do would be to put them in the "family business," and let them earn money that way.

That's what a lot of corporate heads to. They give their kids jobs in the company and let them work their way up.

Marie's kids could work as producers or tech people or P/A's or whatever. They can work and save and get established, then if they want to go do something else, then let them.

I think it's really selfish and cruel if you have money and means, but then you throw your kids out in the cold.

It takes a real asshole to do something like that.

by Anonymousreply 15January 15, 2023 8:57 PM

She’s a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 16January 15, 2023 9:00 PM

This reminds me of a very popular comedian who says one of his kids asked, “Dad, are we rich?”

His response? “Well *I* am.”

by Anonymousreply 17January 15, 2023 9:01 PM

I predict there are Mommie from Hell books that are already in the works...

by Anonymousreply 18January 15, 2023 9:08 PM

She can't be worth that much. She has been relevant for 40 years.

by Anonymousreply 19January 15, 2023 9:18 PM

I bet she exploited those kids to sell magazines and promote her "brand" when it served her purposes. Plus she's a cunt for even talking about such private family financial matters. Man, what a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 20January 15, 2023 9:20 PM

Joan Crawford wants her eyebrows back. Even dead.

by Anonymousreply 21January 15, 2023 9:21 PM

Most of these kids aren't mine anyway, why should I have to keep supporting them when I'm dead? Besides, the Mormon church is out of the adoption business. Used to be you could get a kid for as little as $4000 bucks as opposed to 30k-40k in other states. No wonder we bought a bunch of advertising at that price.

Adopted kids have problems I was not equipped to deal with, like having a mom.

Mormon-adjacent here. This is a thing. They give their "worldly gains" back to the church. It is the ultimate tithe, and some think you (well, your husband anyway) get a better planet for your financial "gift".

Seriously, makes the the Catholic church seem pure of ill intent.

by Anonymousreply 23January 15, 2023 9:23 PM

Don't worry...the Mormons provide plentiful opportunities to other fellow Mormons for jobs, especially famous ones.

by Anonymousreply 24January 15, 2023 9:28 PM

Weren't her parents dirt poor?

by Anonymousreply 25January 15, 2023 9:35 PM

I bet Donnie won't be this heartless to his kids. Marie is brainwashed damaged goods, an easy target of the church in her old age.

by Anonymousreply 26January 15, 2023 9:38 PM

The Osmond brand hasn't been relevant for years.

Outside of Branson and the State Fair circuit, I don't see a lot of earning potential.

The family built a studio in Salt Lake where music was to be recorded and the Donny and Marie show would be produced. It tanked.

Marie, who is nuts, looks more like a drag queen every time I see her. Does anybody remember her melt down where she just took off?

Anyway, Kathy Griffin said she was bat shit years ago and she was right.

by Anonymousreply 27January 15, 2023 9:38 PM

R4 What is your native language?

by Anonymousreply 28January 15, 2023 9:38 PM

We lived in the same neighborhood way back in the day and my sister played with Marie.

Not in a sexual sense, you demented hos.

by Anonymousreply 29January 15, 2023 9:39 PM

by Anonymousreply 30January 15, 2023 9:40 PM

I wonder if she got brain damage from the ex who beat her for years. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 31January 15, 2023 9:41 PM

She birthed 8 children. Her uterus must be dragging behind her as she walks.

One of the kids died by suicide. I wonder what prompted that.

by Anonymousreply 32January 15, 2023 9:45 PM

How did she end up so nutty? She was the only sister in a bunch of boys. Was she molested? Donny seems relatively grounded.

by Anonymousreply 33January 15, 2023 9:49 PM

He was gay, and that doesn't...fly...in Mormonism. It is sad but god knows what abuse he escaped from.

by Anonymousreply 34January 15, 2023 9:50 PM

She looks plastic.

by Anonymousreply 35January 15, 2023 9:52 PM

R8, Not the adopted gay son who committed suicide.

by Anonymousreply 36January 15, 2023 9:54 PM

R32 she adopted five of her kids, so only three of them shot out of her pussy. She claimed she had Post Partum Depression, which was just a cover for being batshit crazy.

by Anonymousreply 37January 15, 2023 9:55 PM

Well thank Joseph Smith at least her pussy isn't dragging behind her!

by Anonymousreply 38January 15, 2023 10:05 PM

Every time Marie is mentioned I remember the DLer who joked that he saw her on a plane with her Emotional Support Tarantula.

by Anonymousreply 39January 15, 2023 10:06 PM

r39 You mean her fake eyelashes?

by Anonymousreply 40January 15, 2023 10:30 PM

I sort of agree with her.

Give them each 50K and encourage them to blow it on a couple nice vacations, then get back to their lives. Nothing is fine too, it's her money, why not?

by Anonymousreply 41January 15, 2023 10:36 PM

R41. My gripe is why do these rich people have to announce what they're leaving or not leaving to their kids? Why is this anyone's business?

Bill Gates did the same thing. Please don't hate me for being rich and white, my kids are going to eat beans and live in a barn.

by Anonymousreply 42January 16, 2023 12:32 AM

Right, R42? I's like some kind of reverse humblebrag.

by Anonymousreply 43January 16, 2023 1:41 AM

“Mom, can we get a deal on Nutrisystem?”

by Anonymousreply 44January 16, 2023 1:44 AM

[quote]“Mom, can we get a deal on Nutrisystem?”

No, stay fat, ya heifer.

by Anonymousreply 46January 16, 2023 2:09 AM

If she really adopted half her brood only to leave them penniless she is the biggest cunt that ever cunted and I don’t say that lightly. I thought the purpose of adopting kids was to give them a better life? Bitch you could've left the in the orphanage then what the hell? This sounds spiteful and tonedeaf to announce out loud as well, she must've attended the Melissa Etheridge school of motherhood. You gotta wonder about a woman who makes this kind of announcement after one of her kids has died by suicide.

by Anonymousreply 47January 16, 2023 2:13 AM

Seems shitty. Half her kids are already in their 30's. They are all adults. She probably won't die for awhile. They would have already known how to work. I'd personally want my kids to live comfortably after my death.

Wonder if any of her kids even talk to her.

by Anonymousreply 48January 16, 2023 2:16 AM

Weird fact about Marie — she remarried her first husband after 25 years with her second husband with whom she had the kids.

by Anonymousreply 49January 16, 2023 2:20 AM

As a gayling I always crushed on the husband. He was a very attractive man.

by Anonymousreply 51January 16, 2023 2:30 AM

Because, ya know, she had no help or head-start in the biz with that giant brunette version of the King Family behind her... 🙄

by Anonymousreply 52January 16, 2023 2:33 AM

Her husband at R50 looks totally gay.

No wonder he didn't have kids with her.

Marie's story is very strange.

Marries a man who won't have kids with her. Divorces him. Marries another man who does have kids with her. Divorces him. Then re-marries man who won't have kids with her, and now she says she's going to spend all her money with him, until she dies.

Something is not right with this story.

by Anonymousreply 56January 16, 2023 3:41 AM

She comes off as America's Sweetheart, but there might be a very dark side to her. A "Marie Dearest" book could be her undoing.

After her son committed suicide, she's heartlessly punishing her living children by disinheriting them? She should at least set-up trust funds, to insure them of food, shelter and clothing.

What a cold, heartless bitch!

by Anonymousreply 57January 16, 2023 3:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 63January 16, 2023 12:52 PM

Someone like Bezos who’s worth over $100 billion I can see not wanting to leave his kids all of that money.

by Anonymousreply 64January 16, 2023 1:00 PM

She never would have had a career in the first place if someone hadn't had the idea of turning Donnie and her into a cheap plastic knockoff of The Carpenters.

by Anonymousreply 65January 16, 2023 1:12 PM

How will the kids afford THEIR bad plastic surgery?

by Anonymousreply 66January 16, 2023 1:58 PM

How awful to have Marie as a mother. What a cunt!

by Anonymousreply 67January 16, 2023 2:06 PM

Children don’t ask to be born into this world. Parental responsibility doesn’t end when the kid turns 18. If the kids are loving and respectful toward her, why not pass along her wealth to make life a little easier for them and their families? We don’t know what the future will be. Even if my kids were comfortable and independent I’d want to leave them my estate in the event there is a looming second Great Depression, medical emergencies, unexpected loss of income/wealth. Why wouldn’t you want that for someone you brought into the world?

by Anonymousreply 68January 16, 2023 2:12 PM

Marie, dear, there are less contractual ways to assure your children don’t inherit your wealth.

That’s the definition of nepotism. Nepo baby is a neologism and it refers specifically to the children of famous entertainers/celebrities, like Maya Hawke or Scott Eastwood.

Marie is not a nepo baby.

by Anonymousreply 71January 16, 2023 2:38 PM

Those things have nothing to do with being a nepo baby, dimwit.

Again, nepo babies are people who got work in the entertainment business because of their celebrity PARENTS. Were the Osmond parents famous performers, dumbfuck?

by Anonymousreply 81January 16, 2023 4:27 PM

Self-righteous Marie is basically implying that her kids' would just sit on their lazy asses all day just waiting for her to kick off if she didn't let it be known in advance that her estate is earmarked for total strangers. That is just flat out COLD.

by Anonymousreply 84January 16, 2023 4:43 PM

Marie's still angry, because the children were harder to care for than her doll collection.

by Anonymousreply 85January 16, 2023 4:46 PM

[quote] I really don't get why she adopted so many kids.

The Osmonds (Mormons) was / is a huge family, maybe 11 kids. Marie probably wanted a huge family. Maybe her hormones went crazy when she got pregnant, post-partum depression issues.

by Anonymousreply 86January 16, 2023 5:41 PM

[quote] How did she end up so nutty? She was the only sister in a bunch of boys. Was she molested?

She has said she was indeed molested as a teenager by someone close to the family, but she's said neither her father nor her brothers were the molestors.

by Anonymousreply 87January 16, 2023 5:57 PM

I disagree with some of you that she has some sort of ethical duty to leave her money to her adult children--your financial obligations to your children legally end once they are 18, and if you choose to give them more of your money after that, that's out of the goodness of your heart. It is not an obligation. Her kids are adults with careers of their own, and should not need her millions to lead happy lives.

I do think she is ridiculous to be virtue-signaling on this, and disingenuous to claim she came up the hard way. Her brothers were adored nationwide as the male version of the Lennon Sisters on the Andy Williams Show in the early 60s, and then (believe it or not) were hugely popular rock & pop music stars around 1970-71, selling themselves basically as the white version of the Jackson 5. (They actually had #1 Billboard hits, including "One Bad Apple" and "Go Away with Girl," and other top 20 hits like "Down by the Lazy River" and "Just like a Yo-yo"). She never would have had her recording career begin had she just been Jane Schmoe from Ogden, UT.

That said, it's widely understood she has grappled her whole adult life with mental illness (besides the sexual abuse, she also dealt with anorexia and tremendous anxiety and depression), and is a fragile and eccentric person.

by Anonymousreply 88January 16, 2023 6:07 PM

I think the husband remarried her just for the money. As a parent you always want to have something to hand down to your kids, most parents don't work for themselves but for their children and hope they can contribute to giving them a good life unless, the kids don't mean that much to them.. I always felt that she handled her son's death strangely, like oh well, I tried.

by Anonymousreply 89January 16, 2023 6:23 PM

20 million is not that much for all those kids. She could will them 1 million each and still have plenty for charity. 1 mil basically pays off your mortgage and goes into college funds. Big whoop.

by Anonymousreply 90January 16, 2023 6:31 PM

She’s an obedient Mormon slave.

by Anonymousreply 91January 17, 2023 3:24 AM

by Anonymousreply 92January 18, 2023 10:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 93January 18, 2023 11:10 AM

She's a filthy cunt to the core.

by Anonymousreply 94January 18, 2023 11:59 AM

Unless I missed something, there's no evidence that the son who killed himself was gay. At all.

This was something crazy, heartless, stupid Roseanne Barr put out there immediately when she heard about the suicide, and was forced to apologize for it...yet somehow it seems to have stuck in peoples' minds. Imagine the malevolence of somebody who feels it's necessary to lash out at a mother who's son just offed himself. I'm not some crazed Marie Osmond fan by any means, but I've loathed Roseanne ever since. And I liked her once upon a time.

Marie said he wasn't gay. She affirmed that her daughter IS gay, and they have a very good relationship. So I don't think she would have denied it had her son been gay.

Of course, it's possible that he was gay and didn't tell anybody, but that's something we'll never know.

He DID suffer from lifelong, severe depression, however. Seems like that would be a factor in a suicide, but what do I know?
