It seems quite clear that here family was trying to protect her image. Many celebrities are public with their bipolar diagnosis but schizophrenia? No way.
So Britney Spears has severe schizophrenia right?
by Anonymous | reply 136 | February 12, 2023 6:52 PM |
Yes, she does. Either that or schizo-affective disorder.
In women, it presents in their 20s, not usually at 18 as it does in men. Britney began going off the rails right at that time. She also has unfortunate genetics for mental illness, with at least one of her grandparents take their own life.
When she was medicated, she was able to function. Unfortunately, with both schizophrenia and bipolar, patients are rarely compliant with meds, with the result of meltdowns and delusion. It's unfortunate.

by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 15, 2023 4:09 PM |
I wonder if people with schizophrenia always have paranoia even when medicated or does this only manifest when they are unmedicated?
I don’t see how a person that is schizophrenic could enjoy the constant sexy picture posting online which seems more manic bipolar behavior.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 15, 2023 4:22 PM |
r5 (and everyone), you can have both simultaneously. The linked article breaks it down nicely.
[quote] Because of the overlap in symptoms , getting the right diagnosis can be challenging. Also, a person can have both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, which can complicate diagnosis. Some people have schizoaffective disorder, which involves a combination of schizophrenia symptoms and mood disorder symptoms.

R6 Thanks for posting this.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 15, 2023 4:42 PM |
Britney’s story should be used to launch people toward greater compassion, specifically toward those with schizophrenia, but in general toward their fellow humankind.
They can’t help it. They are rarely happy people and they suffer a lot. If we were serious about helping them, we would invest in a multi-pronged approach that starts from birth. But we don’t care about kids and mental health in this country, that seems to be way too advanced for Americans.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 15, 2023 5:42 PM |
No, IMHO she has severe bipolar, the kind that makes sends a person into psychotic episodes part of the time.
If she had severe schizophrenia, then the conservatorship might have been legal, and the diagnosis WOULD have been brought up in court! Most people under conservatorship are people who are never going to be able to manage their own lives, and that means serious developmentally delays, advanced dementia, a serious brain disease or injury, or severe schizophrenic. People with bipolar or personality disorders can't legally be conserved, as they're capable of making rational decisions part of the time and consequently have the potential to make competent decisions for themselves. Seriously, why am I the only fucking person on the internet who understands a damn thing about conservatorship law? Why hasn't everyone else who takes an interest in Spears looking this stuff up?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 16, 2023 4:23 AM |
Well, apparently she had an episode while out with Sam at a restaurant the other night. It was triggered by paparazzi tormenting them. I'm now starting to understand why she rarely leaves the house. She's tailed by photogs everywhere she goes. I feel very sorry for her, but she did not need to be conserved. And having her father in charge was a huge conflict of interest. It was nothing but a scam to steal her money and assets.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 16, 2023 4:32 AM |
r9 she was conserved because she was declared to be suffering from "dementia." Does that tell you anything? They used to call schizophrenia dementia.
r10 - you have no clue what you're talking about. Look at some of her Insta posts; they are on other threads here. They are not a rational person's thoughts or writings. She's schizophrenic and bipolar, or has schizo-affective disorder.
You people can't accept reality and evidence.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 16, 2023 4:38 AM |
Maybe. That footage of Spears sitting in a chain restaurant isn't evidence of either bad behavior or a mental disorder. She had an argument with her hot, gay husband, he flounced off leaving his bride to deal with a pack of onlookers who recorded her without her permission.
Her Instagram account however, is bonkers.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 16, 2023 4:42 AM |
If the conservatorship had been real, instead of a financial scam, it could not have been so easily ended. She does not need to be conserved and never did. All she needed was medication and a good accountant. She had neither while dealing with her father's abuse. Just stop r11. It is YOU who are clueless.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 16, 2023 4:43 AM |
r13 - it wasn't "easily" ended, you dolt. It was upheld several times. You're reaching. She doesn't just need "medication and a good accountant!"
I'm not arguing with you anymore because it's really not fair to try to reason with those who are not equipped.

R14 you need help more than Britney. The conservatorship was upheld because she was never allowed to have her own representation. Once Ronan Farrow exposed the entire farce for what it was, a lawyer stepped in to help her, and it was over within months. Your ignorance is off the charts. A schizophrenic can’t perform for hours, every single day at a Vegas casino. Get a fucking life.

I rewatched the recording of a "meltdown" and was reminded again that entry level jobs aren't necessarily low skilled positions. Spears appeared distressed by other patrons recording her as if she and her gay husband are zoo animals. An experienced host or manager would accommodate a VIP and find another spot with lower visibility.

I just wonder when she'll need involuntary commitment.
If she's not taking her medication then her mental health is likely to deteriorate. There comes a point when her own health, safety or the safety of others becomes a critical concern.

Oh for fuck's sake. Britney Spears was always fucking crazy. She self-medicated when she was younger with illegal drugs - just as she is doing today.
Her father saved her life, restored the fortune she had frittered away and protected her from leeches. Now it's open season and we can all see the result.
She's in my Dead Pool because that woman is not long for this world. Either she'll do herself in via suicide, OD on drugs or her "loving husband" will kill her and score a big inheritance. It's going to be a huge legal mess when KFed and her sons try to get her estate from the husband. It wouldn't surprise me to learn she's cut her kids out of her will.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 16, 2023 7:32 PM |
What would KFed do if Britney died without leaving him or the kids anything? He's got like 15 kids to support, and no income other than the child support money he gets from Britney!
Seriously, if he's encouraged the kids to cut Britney off so he can keep custody, he's just not thinking in the long term.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 16, 2023 7:37 PM |
I'm starting to think it's schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder. Yes, people with bipolar have psychotic manic episodes, but they burn out relatively quickly, even with severe bipolar. She seems psychotic 90% of the time.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 16, 2023 8:34 PM |
She had surgery on her leg or knee at one point. My friend opines that she got hooked on painkillers at that time. That's also the same time that she and KFed got together. (He was visiting her at the hospital and during her convalescence and she was impressed by that.)
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 16, 2023 8:38 PM |
I wonder if she had the same conditon as that woman in Massachusetts who strangled her 3 children to death. Post-partum psychosis. There was that incident back in 2008 when she locked herself in the bathroom with one of her sons (I think the younger one, who was still a baby at the time). What exactly she did while in there, or threatened to do we'll probably never know, but it was bad enough for police to be called and for Britney to be taken away on a stretcher after they finally got her out of that room.
They had an article about post-partum psychosis on the DM (I know I know, not the best source...) that said women who already suffer from bipolar before giving birth are at much greater risk of "normal" post-partum depression turning into post-partum psychosis. My theory is that this is what happened with Britney (who was definitely showing signs of bipolar even before the first pregnancy), possibly brought on by a mixture of genetics, hormones, lack of sleep (due to screaming babies AND mania) as well as substance abuse, and that she never fully recovered from it. One thing that is rarely mentioned about psychosis is that every episode causes damage to the brain - which is why schizophrenics often get progressively worse over time. I don't know if it makes sense, but maybe in Britney's case, bipolar + an episode of post-partum psychosis turned into full-blown schizoaffective disorder?

by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 6, 2023 9:33 AM |
Tbh I've never looked at any of the court records, but I follow quite a few other cases on unicourt.com, and one thing I've learned is that the actual interesting information is rarely publicly available. Also, you have to actually understand what you're reading, which can be rather challenging for a layperson. I think of myself as reasonably intelligent, yet I often struggle to make sense of docket entries, minutes from a hearing or even a judgment because I'm not familiar with the terminology.
So yeah, I'm a bit skeptical when people say they looked up all the court docs about the conservatorship and it was OBVIOUSLY all a sham or grossly mishandled etc. How much info is actually public, and is a layperson equipped to make sense of it?

If you want me to believe that the conservatorship was justified you're going to have to explain to me how she was able to work full-time for years, and also explain why the conservatorship was dropped so quickly once she obtained legal representation.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 6, 2023 10:11 AM |
She was able to work full time for years because she was under the care of a physician and on medications that managed her problems-- whatever they are. Now that she is no longer under a conservatorship, she's not. This isn't hard to understand.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 6, 2023 10:27 AM |
Both R31 and R41 are spot on.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 6, 2023 10:36 AM |
If someone has mental illness so severe that they are put under a conservatorship where someone else can force them to have an IUD implanted, then there is no medication that would allow someone with such a severe illness to work full time the way Britney did.
Everyone keeps acting as if she can simply take a few pills and cure her "severe schizophrenia" and work normally, but that's not how any major, severe mental illness works.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 6, 2023 10:48 AM |
But under conservatorship, R43, she arguably functioned much better.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 6, 2023 11:01 AM |
I don’t know if she is schizophrenic but with good therapy and proper controlled medication someone with mental illness can improve over time as long as you stable.
Britney didn’t go right back to work after being placed on the conservatorship it took years for her to get back into performing and rumors were that she was a handful in between shows during her residency, it’s obvious she has been coddled and supported for a long time and by taking that away it exposes her mental instability which is very sad.
Even if she is not schizophrenic she is very ill and all these free Britney loons didn’t really do her a favor.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 6, 2023 5:05 PM |
R45 AGAIN, her family was robbing her blind and abusing her. Six months after conservatorship ended, her networth had doubled. Just STOP!
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 7, 2023 12:54 AM |
R46, I don't believe any accounts of celebrity net worth found on the internet, almost all of those numbers are lies or wild guesses.
So it seems highly likely that she never should have been put under conservatorship, or long-term conservatorship, she doesn't seem to meet the legal standard of permanent mental disability. Now that doesn't mean she can manage her own affairs well or turn her affairs over to people worth of trust, but if she wants to fuck up her own life rather than submit to an abusive conservatorship then she has the legal right to do so.

by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 7, 2023 4:01 AM |
It's possible that Britney falls into a grey area of someone who doesn't meet the strict criteria for a conservatorship but who cannot function as an independent adult. In such cases the person is vulnerable to exploitation by others. When my mother began to exhibit signs of cognitive decline she seemed functional to people who didn't know her well but her ability to make sound decisions about finances and organize her life in general was significantly impaired, and she was basically as helpless as a child. Britney seems very childlike, and her husband strikes me as a caregiver/minder rather than a partner.

I'm sure the "Free Britney" contingent had their hearts in the right place, but she does need serious institutionalization, just not directed from her incredibly fucked up family.

I can't understand people like r44 and r45 who genuinely believe someone's human rights and bodily autonomy should be legally taken away from them permanently because "she functioned better while under someone else's control." They have absolutely no problem with her having had no legal representation for years, with her family stealing her money from her, with her family tossing her into shitty mental health clinics and then setting up pap shots of her leaving those clinics, heavily medicated and disheveled and in clear need of help.
Why? Because they don't like her Instagram posts and they also think she's not a worthwhile human being unless she's got a Vegas residency.
But mostly, they think this because they think it gives them moral superiority. You'll notice most of the comments here are "I'm smarter and better than those 'free Britney people'" when they don't even know what her diagnoses are, and they don't know anything about her life except what they read on DL, which they ironically take as absolute truth.

Yes, she referred to an "ID" that was inside her twice during her speech addressed to the judge.
The poor girl didn't know it's referred to as an IUD (IntraUterine Device).
Just like she referred to a "vial" of blood as a "gallon" of blood. And a gurney she was strapped to when they took her to be 5150'ed as a "gurner."
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 7, 2023 9:06 PM |
R48- Just to be completely pedantic about this, there are people with high-functioning schizophrenia. Usually, they start off on some sort of prescription drug regimen to get stabilized. But over time, they are able to manage their symptoms and do okay long-term without medication.
There are also people with otherwise debilitating schizophrenia who can operate at a high level in specific situations (i.e. while performing in a controlled environment) while heavily medicated, yet completely fall apart in every other aspect of life where they're not "on." I suspect the latter was the case for Britney Spears under the conservatorship.
I am not a scholar in Britney Spears studies, so I'm missing a lot of context. But, from what I've briefly seen on social media, a good conservatorship would probably be helpful for her. She obviously can't take care of herself right now. That said, it does not seem like she was under a healthy conservatorship through her family.

People seem to forget that she was constantly criticized for her stiff, awkward dancing and overall lackluster, almost robotic performances when she had that Vegas residency. It's not like she was putting on one hell of a show night after night after night while "supposedly" severely ill. The signs were all there that she was NOT well at.
I agree however that she should not have been wheeled out to perform in that state. I mean it was just sad. Even hardcore fans were complaing that she was "just not the same Britney anymore".

The “word salad” she exhibits only correlates with schizo disorders. Bipolar people do not speak or write that way (there is a difference between manic speech and word salad). Her words point to schizo even more than her behavior. Why are her stans in such denial?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | February 8, 2023 5:33 PM |
r78 I wonder why people have such a hard time believing it too.
There was a very good video I watched recently about word salad and schizophrenia, by a very calm, well-spoken schizophrenic who explained what it is and why it happens. I looked for it in my browsing history but couldn't find it; it may have even been linked on one of these Britney threads. It was pretty illuminating and seemed to fit with Britney's often confusing posts.
You can tell in some of her posts, what she is writing seems to make sense to HER, but not us. I'm not sure why anyone would refuse to believe she very possibly is affected by this disorder, except they keep arguing she could never put on her LV show if she was without accepting that people who have schizo affect disorders or schizophrenia CAN be productive and live their lives when properly medicated.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | February 8, 2023 5:44 PM |
R78 and R79 are right. I'm a big Britney fan and believe she is schizophrenic. It doesn't affect the fact that I think she's talented and have enjoyed her work for decades; these things aren't mutually exclusive. I think the denial from others comes from a combination of protectiveness/ fear she'll be controlled and exploited, and a general ignorance about functionality with mentally illness.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | February 8, 2023 6:16 PM |
R78 something as vague as ‘word salad’ could be applied to almost anyone at some point in the way that they write. You mental health disorder diagnosis obsessive freaks use such flimsy, non expert, subjective things in order to definitely state that such and such suffers from such and such. There’s been about 60 different mental health diagnoses for Britney in this thread alone….that’s the best testament to how much weight any of your comments carry.
The fact is is that none of you know for certain. Any diagnosis (if there is one) is knowledge shared between Britney (or any person) and their doctor. Your little internet play at being psychiatrist is so dumb lol. And if anyone here actually did know what they were talking about in terms of mental health, they wouldn’t be commenting because they’d understand that that’s not what a professional does. I don’t know what fallacy that is but it’s there lol.

R5 Not all schizophrenics are paranoid. I had a friend that had hallucinations but she said that she knew they were just hallucinations and didn't pay attention to them. She said that she would see a cat or a rabbit walking around her apt but she knew it wasn't real. She wasn't paranoid at all. I used to work in a mental hospital when they were open in the 70s in my early 20s as an activities director. The hospital had mostly paranoid schizophrenics. All of them were insane and very sick.

“ When Amanda tattooed her face, I knew something was seriously wrong. But she is now married, had the tat removed, and seems to be working some.”
Married??? Not even close. Where did that come from? Working some? Not really. Lots of school (fashion, cosmetology, marketing) but no actual job with income. She is supposed to attend some gathering with her “All That” co-stars next month but my guess is she won’t make it. She is still a mess.

r99 I"m not the person who posted your quote, but the last report I read about Amanda had her working as a nail tech.
You seem a little "messy" yourself...

[quote]Just to be completely pedantic about this, there are people with high-functioning schizophrenia
Britney is almost certainly not schizophrenic, and only DLers who do the "zomg I can't read her posts she must be schizo zomg blargh bluh" claim she is.
Everything that she's talked about in her IG rants has been completely reality based: Sam's mom being rude, her dad with his hoochie mamas on the bus, not being able to plan her own wedding. She seems resentful and feels as if she's always being attacked by others, but that's not schizophrenia.
Also, it doesn't sound like high-functioning schizophrenia is really all that high functioning.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | February 9, 2023 4:11 AM |
Britney is not schizophrenic. Imagine thinking you can diagnose a person you have never met and know nothing about. A few bitches on this thread need to write some fan fiction, and mind their own fucking business.

Because she’s very fit, and that takes discipline. Her IG posts are a couple of minutes of her day. Why do you follow her on social media? You obviously hate her guts and for some bizarre reason, resent that she’s finally free to enjoy the fruits of her labor. Get over yourself, FREAK.

Why are the attorneys and family of Britney posting these threads that show attorneys and family members practicing medicine without a license?
Interventions aren’t conducted through social media, and they’re not conducted through poisoning the well fallacies towards the public.

She's doing great. She sends her love.
Just not from the special house they rented for her so she could spend a few months getting therapy and taking the appropriate meds.
Sounds like Sam is sick of her shit too.

R113 Jamie is apparently broke and wanting to get his hands back on her money. It’s not happening, but he’s not going to go down without a fight. He fed that story to TMZ and they have posted and deleted it repeatedly all day. Her family is toxic beyond belief. He’ll never see her money again.

Britney's bipolar not schizophrenic. And she's off her meds which means she has bouts of psychosis.

Gambling?
by Anonymous | reply 122 | February 9, 2023 11:48 PM |
Well r122, some of the stolen money went to his fantasy of having a cooking show. He was self financing the project with Britneys money. Based on that, I'm assuming he blew it all. Too bad, so sad.
Oh. And he blew a bunch of his daughter"s money on a huge condo in Destin, Florida. It's now been sold in attempt to recoup some of the lost dough. I linked the article that explains it all. Fucking read it!
by Anonymous | reply 123 | February 10, 2023 1:18 AM |
I believe her family is trash and probably grifted off her for years but if they were are hard up as people say or as evil they’d be trying to sell their stories somewhere. Somebody would still pay money for it. They’re just a run of the mill white trash family.

by Anonymous | reply 125 | February 10, 2023 1:39 AM |
agree with r124.
The fact is she is seriously mentally ill now. She has been in the past. it's not some conspiracy; we see more evidence of it every day. She needs some help. I don't know what that looks like for her though. But she is definitely mentally unstable and people (apparently around her) feel she's further unraveling. Perhaps they feel she is a danger to herself and others.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | February 10, 2023 1:43 AM |
r121 bipolar + drugs, likely. She developed an addiction problem around the same time of her initial antics... and many professionals believe the shaving of the head that freaked so many people out (mundane thing, really) was more that she was due to be drug tested by hair. (which had a few issues of its own, the potential for false negatives or being in environments, even just neighborhoods of drug production and getting a positive, though in her case, there would be a greater likelihood of usage.)
though severe bipolar disorders can result in symptoms associated with schizophrenia, hence schizo affective became popular... though we still debate where the line is and whether or not schizo affective might be separate to both bipolar and schizophrenia. But you add drugs or abuse of prescription/otc medications, you can run into the same symptoms... it's difficult to make a diagnosis with someone that is "high" at the time or is a heavy user showing symptoms. also, the damage from more severe and long-term abuse can head into its own category... damage to the brain, heart, other internal organs, hormones, chemicals and mechanisms... whatever.
It's also possible she's relatively stable and just manipulating the public with reality show type of antics because it keeps her in the spotlight. One shouldn't be surprised if she's potentially earning for producing her own clickbait. There's dozens of ways to profit off all this, too. . . beyond just seeking attention. Albeit, most would say she could earn more with a cleaner image and stepping back into career but she doesn't appear interested nor capable of performing as she once did. This takes little to no effort. And if she did step back into her career, she'd likely have more people interested in watching the train wreck than the hasbeen.

[quote]it's difficult to make a diagnosis with someone that is "high" at the time or is a heavy user showing symptoms.
Sadly, as someone who's been in and out of therapy for most of my adult life, I have to say that psychologists/psychiatrists often struggle to make a diagnosis even *without* any type of substance abuse on the patient's part. If you present with anything other than a textbook case of some disorder, you're fucked because they won't know what to make of you.

My sister had a short relationship with a woman who had some sort of breakdown/episode one day, started ranting incoherently and swinging a knife about. I'm not sure if she threatened to harm herself, my sister, or both, but it was so scary that my sister had to call 911 and the girlfriend was put on an involuntary psychiatric hold for a few days (I guess in the US you'd say 5150'd).
Apparently the girlfriend had a long history of these episodes, but no one could say what exactly was wrong with her, just that she'd become psychotic and emotionally volatile every once in a while. This happened about a decade ago; I'm pretty sure "schizoaffective disorder" was already well-known at the time ... but none of the doctors who'd treated her seemed to think it was the appropriate diagnosis. From what I'm aware, the woman was not a drug user btw. It seems there really are a lot of grey areas with these types of disorders ...
by Anonymous | reply 132 | February 12, 2023 8:28 AM |
R131- This is really true. And so frustrating. Most talk therapists are just not equipped to diagnose people, and the talk therapy framework isn't conducive to it. Because of insurance billing, though, they're obligated to give patients a label, even if they aren't confident with it themselves.

"psychologists/psychiatrists often struggle to make a diagnosis even *without* any type of substance abuse on the patient's part"
Yeah, this is one of the things that a lot of armchair psychologists don't understand, the vagueness of psychiatric diagnoses. There are no firm lines between disorders, people can have more than one disorder at a time. I was just in an argument about whether someone unknown to the public was schizophrenic or had damaged his brain with drugs, and I was the only person saying that it could not only be both, but that a person with schizophrenia and unwise recreational habits could also have an autism spectrum disorder and/or a personality disorder at the same time.
Someone I know makes a very good living telling people what part of their problems are neurological and what part are psychological, because neurological illnesses can also cause psychiatric symptoms.

People just need to truly leave Britney alone. It's so the TikTok/Twitter crowd to scream injustice, to free Britney, to lambast Jamie Spears only to turn around and send cops to her house for a safety check. Now I am seeing posts by this same group that says Britney should be back in a conservatorship, that without Jamie, she would have been broke and crazy. It's time to let Britney live like everyone else. If she is crazy, back on the meth, and wants to blow through her money or even top herself, that's her business. It's her money, her life. I loved Britney back in the day, but she's 41 and should be allowed to get on with her crazy life. She's had to stay in the LA area for her boys, but they will be turning 18 soon. I think she would thrive somewhere like Hawaii (her favorite vacation destination) where she is away from everyone, has the beach, clean living, away from dealers, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | February 12, 2023 5:00 PM |
I agree with R135. If the crazy ass homeless people in my city can live in tents and shit in the woods and scream at traffic, Britney is allowed to post incoherent instas. She's a spoiled, crazy bitch who married a golddigger, but that's allowed in America. She'll probably OD or kill herself before she's 50, but that's also allowed. It's her life, and too bad if her fans miss her.
Never thought Britney would become the Judy Garland of the millennial generation, but there you have it.
