Why is nepo-baby a thing NOW? They've always existed. And beyond nepo babies, there's people who get gigs due to who they know, even if not their parent, or who their parents know.

I've worked with a few Nepos. Many of them are well trained actors that were fortunate enough to get incredible training at an early age. Most of them are aware of the privilege. The ones that were raised right bring their peers up with them and others are complete narcissists like their parents.

Honestly, being in the right place and around the right people still pays off if you aren't familially connected.

Sure nepotism exists and always will. There are many kinds of nepo babies in society like legacy admissions to schools and organisations, many civil service jobs like police and fire, and even apprenticeships for professional trades. However, none of these more common things compare to the rarity or pay off of making it big in acting which only happens comparatively to such a few people. What’s different now is social media has thrust these people in our faces as ‘stars’ before they’ve even proven themselves. Before that, they may have started out in some commercials or small parts and quietly worked their way up to bigger things if they were capable like the Jamie Lee type nepos. I’m happy people want a meritocracy in something so visible.

I don't know why she'd want to be in a musical on Broadway. I've read on DL plenty of times, about how awful most Broadway actors are to work with. I guess Maude can handle it though, considering who her Father is.

But the job isn’t considered “art,” won’t be viewed by millions (or billions) of people, and won’t earn him $2MM in his first year.

Ok, go ahead and laugh at an actress being an artist, but yes technically they are. The performance is supposed to be a work of art. Art should be brought to us by the power of the performance, not because family connections put it there.

A lot of the "nepo baby" angst on social media sounds immature and sheltered, for reasons others have already pointed out. There's not just a lack of historical perspective, there's often, at least in my circles, a tendency for resentment to blind people to their own privilege even as they rail against someone else's.

They should only be allowed if they actually have talent. The nepo babies in modeling are by far the worst because they are FUGLY.

Judd Apatow's nose is really a thing of wonder. It's up there with Richard Nixon's and LBJ's.
