Why did Ed Burns' career go down the crapper
He had a hugely promising start with his first film and Spielberg cast him in Saving Private Ryan. But he's all but disappeared from Hollywood, his IMDb only show a couple things in development over the past couple years.
I know he married a big model she is clearly the breadwinner in that family.

He pestered everyone to borrow his comb. No one wanted to use that dirty thing. What a kook.

He seemed more interested in filmmaking than acting and wasn't particularly good at either. Had the independent film scene not been so anemic in the early and mid '90s, "Brothers McMullen" wouldn't have attracted any interest.

Imagine what it's like to be his son Finn given how good-lookng the rest of that family is. Finn isn't ugly. He just stands out from the rest of the group.

Probably directs sub-IMDB level stuff like TV commercials or corporate training videos.

R4, their kids are not very attractive. Interestingly, Christy Turlington’s nephew, her sister’s kid, is a model who looks just like her.

Never heard any real scandals about Ed Burns so I guess he's just a boring bourgeois family man. That's not so terrible.

Also he just finished writing, directing and producing the TV comedy Bridge and Tunnel that ran for 2 seasons. Set in the early 1980s in the working class of Long Island, New York, six childhood friends have just graduated college and are stepping out into the real world while also trying to hang on to the familiarity of their hometown and remaining years of their youth.

It ran for 2 seasons of six episodes each on Epix, and he was the only name attached to it, so let's not pretend it's not anything more than a half-step above a web series.

You were set to make the series and then the pandemic happened, and Covid protocols like constant testing and deep cleaning cost $2 million, a big chunk of your budget. Did your background as an indie filmmaker help prepare you for this?
I’ve made so many no-budget and low-budget movies — you have to be able to think on your feet, to rewrite a scene on a moment’s notice, tear up your plans for the day when you lose an actor or when the cops show up and say, “Hey you don’t have a permit.”
If I do have a strength as a filmmaker, it’s my ability to pivot. They said with the $2 million they didn’t think we could do the series. I said, “I can reimagine this show.” We were originally doing eight episodes and half the show took place in Manhattan — we’d see characters coming out of an interview or meeting in a bar there.
I said I’d cut it to six episodes and rewrite everything to take place on the block where they grew up. I moved as many interior scenes as possible to exterior locations for safety, which is why they’re always in the park or hanging in the backyard.

The son is only 16 years old. However, he's tall (Burns is 6'1"), but slim from not having filled out yet - more like a growth spurt for which the rest of him hasn't caught up.
If you look really closely at the face and ignore than terrible teenage boy hair, it's symmetrical with a strong jawline and good chin.
I think he's going to mature relatively well over the next few years. He may not be as handsome as the father, but the daughter isn't nearly as pretty as the mother. He won't look completely out of place in future family photos.

The daughter has a look like CZJ. The son needs to slick his hair back or shave it down to a buzzcut. Show off his features more, the curls are a distraction.

[quote] Why did Ed Burns' career go down the crapper?
Because he's ugly because he has no eyelashes.
Because Ed Burns is a flash in the pan just like Ed Byrnes (R31) was a flash in the pan.

He isn't a good actor.
He has a whiney weird voice.
Not a very special director unless telling a very small story.
Apparently less than charming in person.

I feel like he was Ben Affleck’s rival and lost. They look like each other, both played similar roles, both had passions in filmmaking and Ben won.

Ed was pleasantly handsome but he wasn't Rock Hudson or Guy Madison, was he? Affleck was a handsome young man as well.

Affleck was cockier on screen. Don't underestimate the seductive pull of a cute douchebro. And obviously more cut throat careerist and productive as an actor / writer than Ed Burns.

No offense r34 but it's not just gaylings who won't know who Edd Kookie Byrnes is. "77 Sunset Strip" premiered in 1958 and the song hit the charts in 1959.

Not related to anything, but I remember an interview with Ed and Heather was there. I think it took place at his apartment or something. Anyway, during the interview he said, I’m just with Heather for the sex. Oh, he was as kind about it as possible rather than blunt, but it was very clear. Heather got more and more insecure as the interview went on. She kept interjecting trying to prompt him to say something complimentary about her, but he just kept dodging. I felt kind of bad for her towards the end.
