I think she’s being gender fluid because it relieves her from the pressures of appearing feminine. As a woman, she probably doesn’t feel very beautiful. By identifying as something else with no beauty standards, she consequently doesn’t fail as a woman.

If you're a bit unconventional these days you'll get told "oh, sounds like you might be non-binary actually!". Say a girl who likes games and sports a lot or some straight guy who's meek and artsy - they wouldn't have thought much of it in the past. Identity and the rhetoric and the biographical descriptors of it are of such importance now, people feel they are obligated to describe it formally and in detail.
