Of the recurring characters it's Uncle Angelo, that fucking awful accent and bullshit about being a Priest. Plus his character was given some awful lines.
Aunt Angela wasn't much better but at least the acting wasn't as offensively bad and Nancy didn't a neat job of mirroring Estelle's mannerisms. She was just a mean old bitch.

Frieda Claxton and Barbara Thordyke are iconic GG villains. I like Nancy Walker but didn't like her as Angela. Alma Nyland bugged hard. Also, Michael Zbornak was the only tolerable child of any of the characters. Fat or Frizzy haired Rebbeca was exhausting. Upscale, Jaclyn Smith/Dierdre Hall knockoff AND White Trash truck stop Kirstens were both equally horrifying in different ways. That Barrie Youngfellow/Brenda Vacarro hybrid Kate Zbornak sucked but I could also not abide the off-brand Didi Conn Kate either. And of course Bridget was a whore.

Has anyone mentioned Lorraine and Dorothy's "skinny white boy" son Michael? Those two hooking up didn't make a lick of sense. As rare as the paring can be most white male/black female couples are attractive in my experiences, but that older big boned black woman with that pencil thin whiteboy? Come on now! I do applaud The Golden Girls for not shying away from certain issues and the episode was still funny and didn't hold back on the stereotypes "Is it true what they say about Black men in bed?" LMAO oh Sophia! Lorraine's mother going up against Dorothy was pretty funny too and its the only episode where there's "blackface" but not really.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 14, 2023 8:57 PM |
[quote]I always hated Miles.
Me too! And it's so odd, because I always liked the actor Harold Gould as Rhoda's father and in every other character part I saw him in.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 14, 2023 9:01 PM |
It’s amazing how many actors on Golden Girls were recycled from Mary Tyler Moore. Harold Gould was on MTM at one point, and Nancy Walker played Rhoda’s mother. And there was Betty White of course as Sue Ann Nivens. And a bunch of other minor characters.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 14, 2023 9:30 PM |
I liked Michael in the episode where he's effing Bridget, but he and Lorraine really don't have much to do in their episode, it's really all about their families responses to them as a couple. He bugged a little bit in his last appearance after he left Lorraine (and baby Roger LaMarr), but I found Stan more annoying than him so he gets a pass. Awful fried spiral perm Becky is the only other actor to appear more than once as one of the girls' children,so that's impressive in itself. To be fair, I just thought he was cute.
OT: but does anyone think Blanche took it in the butt/lezzed out?
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 14, 2023 9:41 PM |
Lorraine was only 44 but looked 64. She was wrong for Michael as a boring school teacher Black woman
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 14, 2023 10:01 PM |
Michael gave me closeted vibes R94 but perhaps that was just wishful thinking 😉 I almost forgot he hooked up with Rose's hot in the pants daughter. That paring also made little sense even if Bridget was an undercover freak, I always thought Michael's inability to settle down was because he was on denial about his sexuality. But again wishful thinking most likely but I was in such lust for the actor who played Michael. I definitely would've blew his saxophone.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 14, 2023 10:04 PM |
I can see Michael fucking Bridget. He didn’t give a shit about her personality. She was young and blonde.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 14, 2023 10:10 PM |
R94 You could figure Lorraine miscarried, being so old, so Roger Lamar avoided a big mess not being born into that family.
Becky #2 wanted to have a baby as a working single mother. Who would do that but an immature idiot? Yes, her hair was ugly, but her life choices were uglier.
Stan was a great character, and perfectly cast. My only quibble is his greeting "Hi, it's me Stan." Every single time the door opened. I know they did it for new viewers, but it was unnecessary. They would've known his name when the girls greeted him, and after a few minutes of seeing how he and Dorothy interacted, would've been able to figure they were divorced.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 14, 2023 10:44 PM |

When Rose said that Michael was a loser and Bridgett was a tramp, that scene was uncomfortable. It was real and chilling considering their off screen relationship. There was major Method acting between Bea and Betty. It was jarring to see Rose meaner and harsher than Dorothy.

I didn't like the episode where the girls meet this weirdo artist guy who wanted one of them to pose for a sculpture he was working on and they all started fighting over which girl they thought he wanted. Does anyone remember the episode I'm talking about? In the end the fighting was for nothing because he ended up being gay. Am I remembering it right? Somebody please help me lol. Anyways I didn't like him because I didn't like seeing the girls fight over a man.

Yes, we remember it and you were correct on the details.

r153 you're posting on DL, dear. There's probably a caftan-wearing poster who owns the original script, autographed not only by the four main cast members, but also Tony Jay ("Laszlo Glagorian"); a ticket from the live audience taping; and a pair of boots worn by Bea Arthur during the episode.

I never bought that she was a mother to rose. They were probably the same age. Their personalities were so different and seemed so opposite. They dressed the mom like an old lady from 1890.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | June 18, 2023 4:37 PM |
Why, in that episode did it never come up that she was Rose’s adoptive mother? And why couldn’t they cast someone that looked like she was the sort that could handle life on a farm?
Lazy writers and their lazy writing.

And he adored Rose, and Gould wasn’t afraid to play a boob sometimes, himself.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | June 18, 2023 5:59 PM |
Apparently Bea caught Gould peeping on her when she was in her dressing room, doing some womanly things. She had to be physically restrained from ringing his neck. He tried to explain it was an accident and he was just looking for Betty to work on their lines but she was having none of it. That's why he didn't appear in the heart attack episode or finale, Bea threatened to break off his arm and shove it up his ass.

The actress who played young Dorothy was perfect, IMO (just like the actress who played young Eunice on Mama's Family).
I also liked the Stan Zbornak character a lot. He was perfect as a man that Dorothy would marry only because she got knocked up while losing her virginity.

Honorable mention for the Cuban boxer turned violinist, turned Juilliard actor known as Kid Pepe whom Sophia apparently bought at a bus stop. It is probably the Wokest episode of The Golden Girls, but with every cuban stereotype in the book. Watching Pepe use his race and play on ignorant stereotypes to get into a prestigious school was annoying as fuck. Tv showsbin the 80s were annoyingly transparent.
