Do we think that Tom Ford actually did the designs and meaningfully oversaw the design work for his brand, or did he just slap his name on other people's work?

If he was actually doing some designs or even commenting and making meaninful editorial changes to other people's work and making key choices in color and pattern, I'd count that as the brand reflecting his sensibilities in which case, what is the brand without him.

If he was just slapping his name on other people's stuff, then what is the point of the company without him?

It's not like Louis Vuitton or Coco Chanel still design for their namesakes, but the Ford brand isn't nearly as old and established.

The cost of plunking down $51 million on a house is interesting.

Even invested earning only 3% annually, then divided by 12, the house is costing Tom $127,500 a month in "opportunity cost".

If you earned more on the invested funds that number goes up. It sounds like a lot of money.

Steve from Bedo's Leather repaired a pair of Tom Ford shoes a while back. He had to basically take the shoes apart and put them back together again. CHEAP CRAP! Those $2000.00 shoes were made of cardboard for the most part. Even the heel blocks were nothing but pressed cardboard. Steve made new ones out of several layers of leather.
