R1 isn’t it bizarre? When I got to NY at 22 y/o I was long since out but was unfamiliar with the affinity gay men had for vb. I was asked maybe 30 times over the years, and very passionately, to play vb. I’m pretty athletic and gays I came across kept trying to recruit me with the zeal and passion of a Jehovah's Witness. In IA only girls played vb seriously. I’m decent at it on grass or sand, but only for fun and never with other guys who take it seriously. Meanwhile until I met my husband I had a hell of a time finding other gay men for a pick-up game of bb, to throw a football, or play golf. Tennis has been a little easier to find partners. But either way, I usually recreate with straights, it’s just easier.
