The scenes are only embarrassing to you, OP, not the people who performed in them. Not everyone looks like the "ideal body" that's been foisted on us by advertisers. Thank God!

I find these refreshing. Not so competitive and narcissistic, but real and relaxed.

I agree with r4 and r5. Not all film nudity is about sex. The examples OP mentions aren't gratuitous, as many nude scenes in films are.

Or maybe these were two fine actors who were unafraid to be nude in the service of the films they were in. OP. Meredith's character in Such Good Friends was a pompous man. Dylan Cannon's character amused herself by visualising him as absurdly nude.

I don't understand the purpose of nude scenes in mainstream films. I do think most of them are completely gratuitous. I don't really like a huge amount of cursing, either. I'm not talking about real life, just entertainment. What's the point? If you can't tell a story without getting naked or saying fuck every two minutes, then you can't tell a story in the first place.

I don't think I would classify it as embarrassing but I saw David Lynch's film Wild At Heart at a formative age and the scene in Big Tuna, Texas when the nude giggling fat ladies emerge from the motel room where they had been filming porn made quite an impact on my psyche.

Harvey keitel in The Piano. The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo. The nude scene in that was downright embarrassing, it was so bad.

The fat naked guy in "Sideways".

That scene in Sideways was hilarious, R16. I guess nude scenes are okay if the actors are sexy and thin. What a bunch of idiots there are on this thread.

I really didn't want to see Meryl's butt in "Don't Look Up," which should have been called "Don't Look."

Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. She didn't look ugly, just undignified.

When characters don't curse I find it unrealistic r7. In real life a lot of adults use profanity when they speak to each other, that's realistic dialog.

Also people don't have sex with the clothes on. When characters are having sex and they are all covered up that strikes me as unrealistic.

People get naked. People swear. I don't know why you want a return to the Hays code where it was required that art had to be sanitized and family friendly.

I have never seen it but my Great-Aunt was about 74 years old when she said she walked out of the theater for “The Wedding Date” with Debra Messing and asked for a refund.

She said it was horrible because there’s a scene where an old guy shows his ass and she said she wasn’t going to pay $10 to see an old guys ass on a 50 foot screen.

From what I've seen, old men don't even have asses. Their backs just connect into their legs in one straight line.

My late grandma went to the movies to see Steel (a 1978 Lee Majors movie about the construction of a building) because it was filmed in her city of Lexington, Kentucky. She hadn’t been to a movie theatre in such a long time that she hadn’t heard swearing or seen nudity in a movie before. “Good lord, what’s this world coming to?” was her reaction.

As to swearing it must be no big deal with most families now. We watch Cobra Kai, which would certainly appeal to kids, and they say “fuck” on there pretty regularly. I was a teen prude and would have been uncomfortable back in the day watching something with dirty words like that with my parents.

Anyway nude is just another costume for an actor, even older ones who’re not the most physically attractive will do it if the role requires.

I used to think Dave Foley was cute when he was on Kids in the Hall and News Radio. By the time he did full frontal nudity it was….too late.

Most nude/sex scenes are not necessary and are largely thrown in for titillation. Not just for the audience, but also the producers/writers/directors themselves. Which is perfectly fine. I just wish people in the industry would be more honest/less naive about it. Some feminists get hip to what is really going on and either stop getting naked, put a comedic spin on it or try to de-sexualize it.

Ken Howard looking good in the same movie as Burgess Meredith- in his white briefs- I wish he had removed those briefs.

Having to get completely naked in front of Glen Close- is the worst/most embarrassing thing to have to do. The man was really good looking- just my type, slim and good looking.

When I was young any nudity on screen embarrassed me because my parents were usually present.

Now I usually find it gratuitous and/or lazy, especially in television. We can't think of anything to keep your attention in this scene so HAVE A DICK!!!
