Now Millennials Are Being Accused of Killing Canned Tuna
Canned tuna might be too stinky, processed and inconvenient for Millennials, a new report says.
Millennials seem to be choosing yoga pants over jeans, and hot sauce over mayo. Now, it seems that they’re avoiding a former mainstay of American lunches— canned tuna. Although consumers have been eating less canned tuna for the last three decades, Millennials seem to be buying even less than previous generations, the Wall Street Journal reported. Only 32% of consumers between 18 and 34 bought canned fish or shellfish recently, compared to 45% of those over 55, according to market-research firm Mintel.

We don't say tuna fish because it's redundant.

If tuna is white ands packed in water is there really any difference in brands?

Tuna has more mercury than other fish. And microplastics are a problem. Canned sardines are actually safer/healthier.

is this a problem? And they are not "accused" and they are not "killing" the product. They just aren't buying much of a product. TIME has sunk so very low.

Charlie should be elated.
I feel sorry for anyone who's never tasted a good tuna salad. My mom puts sweet pickle, brown mustard and a hard-boiled egg in hers, and it's an orgasm.

Millennial here. Love sardines, never liked tuna. Tuna is low on flavor and needs other things with it to make it edible.

Funny you should mention that as I learned last year that adding Jamaican jerk seasoning to a tuna sandwich helps a lot.

What's wrong with tunafish? I love it. Born in 1963, so end of the Boomers/beginning of Gen X. My father (born in 1926) hated it.

No, R30. We like our lives. We don't feel cheated out of anything. We still have Social Security. Why would we want to fight millennials? I know you're angry but it really isn't reciprocated. By the time you're old, you learn how to tune out people you find annoying.

You don't need a can opener, you can just buy one of those little packs that you tear open. They have all sorts of nice flavors (my favorite is lemon pepper). Put on a slice or two of bread and add some mustard or whatever and it's a very nice sandwich.

I suspect it's because the thought and act of attempting to use a can opener to access the canned tuna is too overwhelming and time-consuming for the Millennials, including because it might make them need to put down and be concentratively disconnected from their cellphones for more than 45 seconds.

The cans seem to get smaller and smaller and it really is a bother to prepare.
Also, "Wild Caught!" is like labeling beef as "Gluten Free!". There was never any gluten in beef and there are only wild caught tuna as tuna farming doesn't exist.
It's like "organic". It's an unregulated marketing term used to fool dumb people.

Here's a list of all the things Millennials have been accused of killing off - and I agree with every last one of them.
Good.
Cable TV, Banks, Diamonds, Golf, Marriage, Casual Dining Chains (e.g. Applebees), Heavyweight motorcycles, Beer, Paper Napkins, 9-5 Workday, Ironing, the Business Suit, Department Stores, Running, Wine Corks, Doorbells and Postcards.
I'm fine with all of these - although we know that many of these were already on the decline before Millennials had anything to do with it.
Next UP: Republican Politicians please.

R49, It's simple, really; Millennials are rejecting not only their Baby Boomer elders as living humans and wish us dead; they're rejecting Baby Boomer Everything.
We'll see how that works out for their future living conditions.
