Now Millennials Are Being Accused of Killing Canned Tuna

Canned tuna might be too stinky, processed and inconvenient for Millennials, a new report says.

Millennials seem to be choosing yoga pants over jeans, and hot sauce over mayo. Now, it seems that they’re avoiding a former mainstay of American lunches— canned tuna. Although consumers have been eating less canned tuna for the last three decades, Millennials seem to be buying even less than previous generations, the Wall Street Journal reported. Only 32% of consumers between 18 and 34 bought canned fish or shellfish recently, compared to 45% of those over 55, according to market-research firm Mintel.

Tuna fish is great for my keto diet. I'm preparing a keto Greek salad this afternnon.

by Anonymousreply 1January 7, 2023 10:10 PM

We don't say tuna fish because it's redundant.

by Anonymousreply 2January 7, 2023 10:12 PM

Bumble Bee should be killed off because it is disgusting.

[quote[We don't say tuna fish because it's redundant.

As is Ahi tuna.

by Anonymousreply 4January 7, 2023 10:13 PM

If tuna is white ands packed in water is there really any difference in brands?

by Anonymousreply 5January 7, 2023 10:15 PM

What about bunny rabbit?

by Anonymousreply 6January 7, 2023 10:18 PM

Old news.

by Anonymousreply 7January 7, 2023 10:18 PM

Tuna has more mercury than other fish. And microplastics are a problem. Canned sardines are actually safer/healthier.

by Anonymousreply 8January 7, 2023 10:19 PM

I make a tuna salad about once a month, squeezing the juice out for my cats.

by Anonymousreply 9January 7, 2023 10:25 PM

is this a problem? And they are not "accused" and they are not "killing" the product. They just aren't buying much of a product. TIME has sunk so very low.

by Anonymousreply 10January 7, 2023 10:26 PM

Sorry Charlie

by Anonymousreply 11January 7, 2023 10:26 PM

Charlie should be elated.

I feel sorry for anyone who's never tasted a good tuna salad. My mom puts sweet pickle, brown mustard and a hard-boiled egg in hers, and it's an orgasm.

by Anonymousreply 12January 7, 2023 10:34 PM

Great, thanks for posting that your mother gives you orgasms, r12.

by Anonymousreply 13January 7, 2023 10:35 PM

Millennial here. Love sardines, never liked tuna. Tuna is low on flavor and needs other things with it to make it edible.

by Anonymousreply 14January 7, 2023 10:35 PM

oral orgasms, R12

as a good mother should

by Anonymousreply 15January 7, 2023 10:36 PM

Who cares? Boomers are desperate to blame "millennials" for everything they don't like

by Anonymousreply 16January 7, 2023 10:38 PM

Ah, yes, more of that fabled intellectual wit that DL is famous for.

by Anonymousreply 17January 7, 2023 10:38 PM

All the intergenerational conflict threads are posted by millennials. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

by Anonymousreply 18January 7, 2023 10:44 PM

Who are the first two twats who don’t know how to spell Millennial correctly? I’m looking at you, r1, r2!

by Anonymousreply 19January 7, 2023 10:54 PM

R19, don't throw stones. After all, you made your own mistake.

Cunt isn't spelled t-w-a-t.

by Anonymousreply 23January 7, 2023 11:11 PM

R14

Funny you should mention that as I learned last year that adding Jamaican jerk seasoning to a tuna sandwich helps a lot.

by Anonymousreply 24January 7, 2023 11:13 PM

Killing canned tuna? Those bastards! Is there nothing that evil generation won't do to undermine civilized society?!?

by Anonymousreply 25January 7, 2023 11:15 PM

Maybe this will help offset overfishing and let the tuna population recover.

by Anonymousreply 26January 7, 2023 11:17 PM

Egads! Next the punks will turning their noses up at Spam.

by Anonymousreply 27January 7, 2023 11:18 PM

This thread is making me horny!

by Anonymousreply 28January 7, 2023 11:19 PM

R23 is an eldergay with an unwashed mussy

by Anonymousreply 29January 7, 2023 11:22 PM

R18, no, they're started by eldergays to attack millennials and Gen X. You guys are jealous of anyone under 80

by Anonymousreply 30January 7, 2023 11:23 PM

Indeed there is. Try Wild Planet, you'll be amazed.

What's wrong with tunafish? I love it. Born in 1963, so end of the Boomers/beginning of Gen X. My father (born in 1926) hated it.

No, R30. We like our lives. We don't feel cheated out of anything. We still have Social Security. Why would we want to fight millennials? I know you're angry but it really isn't reciprocated. By the time you're old, you learn how to tune out people you find annoying.

by Anonymousreply 34January 7, 2023 11:29 PM

Canned tuna is nasty

by Anonymousreply 35January 8, 2023 1:45 AM

You don't need a can opener, you can just buy one of those little packs that you tear open. They have all sorts of nice flavors (my favorite is lemon pepper). Put on a slice or two of bread and add some mustard or whatever and it's a very nice sandwich.

by Anonymousreply 36January 8, 2023 1:52 AM

I buy the pouches, I like making tuna melts

by Anonymousreply 37January 8, 2023 2:16 AM

Who buys chunk light tuna? It’s skipjack.

Solid Albacore in water for the win!

by Anonymousreply 38January 8, 2023 4:50 AM

I suspect it's because the thought and act of attempting to use a can opener to access the canned tuna is too overwhelming and time-consuming for the Millennials, including because it might make them need to put down and be concentratively disconnected from their cellphones for more than 45 seconds.

by Anonymousreply 39January 8, 2023 4:53 AM

FANCY ASS ITALIAN tuna in olive oil for me.

by Anonymousreply 40January 8, 2023 11:10 AM

We need to talk about modern slavery

by Anonymousreply 41January 8, 2023 11:40 AM

Mom, I just want a tunafish sandwich like my friend Jimmy. Why are you talking about slaves!?

The cans seem to get smaller and smaller and it really is a bother to prepare.

Also, "Wild Caught!" is like labeling beef as "Gluten Free!". There was never any gluten in beef and there are only wild caught tuna as tuna farming doesn't exist.

It's like "organic". It's an unregulated marketing term used to fool dumb people.

by Anonymousreply 43January 8, 2023 11:58 AM

Every time I eat tuna, my urine smells like fish the next day.

by Anonymousreply 44January 8, 2023 12:02 PM

I'm vegan. And a millennial. I'm not exactly sure which attribute feeds into which. It's a chicken/egg situation of sorts. Which I also don't eat. Because, you know, I'm vegan.

by Anonymousreply 45January 8, 2023 12:15 PM

[quote]My mom puts sweet pickle, brown mustard and a hard-boiled egg in hers

Ugh. I can smell this post.

by Anonymousreply 46January 8, 2023 12:21 PM

R16, And vice-versa!

I've lately eschewed canned tuna for canned chicken. Canned chicken with walnuts, dried cranberries, red onion, dill, and mayo---yum!

by Anonymousreply 47January 8, 2023 2:14 PM

What does canned chicken taste like?

by Anonymousreply 48January 8, 2023 2:26 PM

Here's a list of all the things Millennials have been accused of killing off - and I agree with every last one of them.

Good.

Cable TV, Banks, Diamonds, Golf, Marriage, Casual Dining Chains (e.g. Applebees), Heavyweight motorcycles, Beer, Paper Napkins, 9-5 Workday, Ironing, the Business Suit, Department Stores, Running, Wine Corks, Doorbells and Postcards.

I'm fine with all of these - although we know that many of these were already on the decline before Millennials had anything to do with it.

Next UP: Republican Politicians please.

by Anonymousreply 49January 8, 2023 2:28 PM

OMG! Now what will I use for douche?

by Anonymousreply 50January 8, 2023 4:18 PM

R50 Use packets!

by Anonymousreply 51January 8, 2023 4:21 PM

R49, It's simple, really; Millennials are rejecting not only their Baby Boomer elders as living humans and wish us dead; they're rejecting Baby Boomer Everything.

We'll see how that works out for their future living conditions.
