What does DL think of the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

John Fruciante murdered River Phoenix!

First Ivor Novello, now Chilli Peppers.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 3, 2023 8:29 AM |
love some of their songs...from way back
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 3, 2023 8:31 AM |
what happened to that exhibitionist Flea???
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 3, 2023 8:32 AM |
Were they really bisexual and fucking around with each other or were they just baiting?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 3, 2023 8:56 AM |
I grew up in a “surfing town” in the 1990s. The Chilli Peppers were inescapable.

They were so very hyper on stage. I wonder how their act has aged? Are they hyper old men on stage jumping in tighty whities?

I wasn't a huge fan in their heyday, but I have recently "rediscovered" them, and enjoying their music.
A hidden gem (at least for me) is Dark Necessities (my brother turned me on to this song).

MTV loved their spectacle. Drugs.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 3, 2023 10:57 AM |
I've always liked them. Though like most bands, the later-career stuff is a drop-off.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 3, 2023 11:32 AM |
Most of their songs are indistinguishable from each other.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 3, 2023 11:44 AM |
I was a big fan as a teenager. I still like some of their older material, takes me back. Not a fan of Anthony Kiedis as a person, but rock music has always been full of sleazy dudes, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 3, 2023 11:44 AM |
Dick pics?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 3, 2023 11:50 AM |
Terrible, terrible band.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 3, 2023 1:55 PM |
Never liked their music.
But Anthony Kiedis was a hot fucker back in the day. Jock strap photo at link.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 3, 2023 2:03 PM |
I saw them live about 6 yrs ago. They still jumped around then, impressively doing moves that would put me in the hospital. The show was decent. Very professional no more, no less. I think they are a decent band. Remind me of my youth.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 4, 2023 5:57 AM |
They give me heartburn.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 4, 2023 12:26 PM |
Saw them at ACL about ten years ago and they were incredible. Just completely on fire, (so to speak). They opened with this really funky/jazzy instrumental that I’ve never been able to find since but it was really a phenomenal show. And they seem like decent guys: I love that Flea had his daughter’s kindergarten class sing backup on Aeroplane.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 4, 2023 12:47 PM |
Oh wow, R21, that's the first time I've heard that about Flea's daughter's kindergarten class signing backup. Very cool and charming. I wouldn't have guessed he was a family man, but it seems like he's a good father.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 4, 2023 1:03 PM |
They only ever had one good album.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 4, 2023 1:07 PM |
Anthony Kiedis wrote some of the dumbest lyrics in the history of popular music.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 4, 2023 1:10 PM |
Under the Bridge is about the only one you can listen to once you get old
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 4, 2023 1:57 PM |
I love a lot of their music. Soul to Squeeze is a song I never get sick of.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 4, 2023 2:47 PM |
I remember walking into a record store back in the day and seeing a giant poster of them wearing nothing but socks. Flea can slap a bass in a serious way. Of course Mark King (difficult to find a sock big enough for him) was Flea’s role model.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 4, 2023 3:54 PM |
[post redacted because linking to dailymail.co.uk clearly indicates that the poster is either a troll or an idiot (probably both, honestly.) Our advice is that you just ignore this poster but whatever you do, don't click on any link to this putrid rag.]

“Freaky Styley”is the only song of theirs I still listen to. It’s a simple song but it stands up. Working with George Clinton was a cool choice for them, I think.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 4, 2023 4:34 PM |
The bush is impressive @ r28.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 4, 2023 8:53 PM |
R22 Yeah, it’s really kind of sweet. Around the same time, I saw a RHCP interview and Flea yelled, “I love you, Clara!”. He seems to be a really loving dad.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 4, 2023 10:46 PM |
Kiedis is starting to look like Hitler with his dyed jet black hair and mustache.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 4, 2023 10:50 PM |
Great rig, though.

River Phoenix should still be alive.....I know that much.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 7, 2023 9:46 AM |
R41 Genius? That song is fucking ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 7, 2023 9:53 AM |
I had forgotten about this feud between Anthony Kiedis and Mike Patton, lol. Anthony does seem like a giant pain in the ass. Flea is the real driving talent behind RHCP, no question.

R43, Bob Forrest is a liar and part of cover up .
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 7, 2023 3:17 PM |
They absolutely suck , kiedis is the worst lyricist in rock history
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 7, 2023 3:21 PM |
Someone keeps pushing the River Phoenix fantasy, they are obsessed with the story and won't leave it alone.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 7, 2023 5:06 PM |
Not a fantasy. River was murdered. The autopsy report disproves the narrative coming out of Viper
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 7, 2023 5:08 PM |
For me they're a bit like Smashing Pumpkins. I think musically they are great. Great hooks and licks. Flea's bass playing is astounding.
But Anthony just can't sing. And not in an interesting, Cobain sort of way. Not in way that makes the songs more intriguing because of his flaws.
Instead, he hurts the band more helps. Stops the band from reaching greater sonic heights. And I say this even though I tend to really like his lyrics and a lot of his attempted melodies.
I always wondered what the band would sound like and if they kept everything the same (music, lyrics, melodies), but had a slightly better, more emotive singer who could hit more notes.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 7, 2023 5:15 PM |
Kiedis is gross beyond belief and their music is just okay.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 7, 2023 5:29 PM |
I have a friend who despises their music and will switch the station if they ever come on the radio. Says they sing about the same thing and he cannot stand the lead singers voice.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 7, 2023 5:30 PM |
Brilliant.

Keidis was on Joe Rogan recently and he is a creepy looking guy.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 7, 2023 5:39 PM |
Keidis looks like a dirty old man now.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 7, 2023 5:47 PM |
He used to be hot in a simian way with his long hair, but with age and the pedostache he has morphed into his final true form, the creepy old man leching after young girls.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 7, 2023 5:48 PM |
☝🏼 he pings to high heaven
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 7, 2023 5:51 PM |
R50 But Cobain not only could sing, he was a fantastic singer and had a great voice.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 7, 2023 5:51 PM |
R52 Let me guess. About California.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 7, 2023 5:52 PM |
Yes, he was pinging on the Joe Rogan interview.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 7, 2023 7:25 PM |
Thanks for posting that R60. AK doesn’t seem like a bad guy. Had some demons and dealt with them.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 8, 2023 12:10 AM |
I'm a classical snob for the most part, but I absolutely LOVE the RHCP song "Under the Bridge". Gives me goosebumps.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 8, 2023 12:26 AM |
Wait wait is AK gay? Pings hard in the video. I hate myself for watching Rogan tho, ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 8, 2023 1:03 AM |
AK isn't gay. He could possibly be bi or gay for pay if he were hooking. Mostly he is attracted to himself and his own hotness, coolness and fabulousness. To be fair, he basically raised himself as his father was an irresponsible addict and dealer who charmed people with his looks.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 8, 2023 1:57 AM |
R63 No.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 8, 2023 6:05 AM |
I liked them fine in the 90s but I don’t think their music is aging well. As a teen I will admit to jerking off to the tube sock photo.

R58, Nirvana is my favorite band of all time and I am a diehard Kurt fan.
I love his voice. Love it. But even he himself claimed he wasn't really a singer. For sure, he used his voice in a way that few others have. But he couldn't croon like, say, Chris Cornell. But (to me anyway) his cracks, his screams, his sharpness all made his lyrics and melodies hit that much harder. Nirvana's appeal is Kurt's voice. Warts and all. And I could never imagine it any other way, nor would I want to!
Where as Anthony's voice is the exact opposite for me. Just makes me want something more.
That was what I was trying to say.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 8, 2023 9:35 AM |
R67 I hated Chris Cornell voice. I mean I didn't like their music, cause most of it was just a boring hard rock/metal, done million times before, but I would give it a shot if it wasn't for his voice. Same with Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin. I just can't stand that type of dusty, blues howling vocals. They sound so dated and forced to me. Don't get me started on Eddie Vedder and that douche from Stone Temple Pilots. Yet most people find their voices better because I guess they technically are "better". But I really couldn't care less about technicality when it comes to music. Or art in general.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 8, 2023 1:03 PM |
I dont blame AK but I will always associate him with the obliteration of model Jamie Rishar’s career. She got heavily into drugs when she was with him, but unlike Keidis didn’t have the ability to bounce back. The drug use destroyed her looks as well.
She went from this:
