Has anyone saw the musical " The Book of Mormon"?

I was just curious if its worth it to see.

by Anonymousreply 49January 1, 2023 10:07 PM

Very silly but funny.

by Anonymousreply 1December 31, 2022 3:56 PM

Are you Swiss?

by Anonymousreply 2December 31, 2022 3:56 PM

Yeah, I seen it, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3December 31, 2022 3:58 PM

It’s very good

by Anonymousreply 4December 31, 2022 3:59 PM

[quote]Has anyone saw the musical

Oh, DEAR.

by Anonymousreply 5December 31, 2022 3:59 PM

I wasn’t impressed at all with Book of Mormon. The music and story weren’t great.

And I was stuck behind an old woman wearing a beehive. A beehive? In Chicago? In 2014? Stupid hag.

by Anonymousreply 6December 31, 2022 4:03 PM

I honestly didn’t think it was that entertaining. It was just okay.

by Anonymousreply 7December 31, 2022 4:07 PM

yes you should see it

by Anonymousreply 8December 31, 2022 4:21 PM

Perhaps open 'The Book of Grammar' before delving in to the world of the arts?

by Anonymousreply 9December 31, 2022 4:27 PM

I saw it when it opened on Broadway. It’s very funny but unabashedly vulgar.

by Anonymousreply 10December 31, 2022 4:31 PM

Vulgar—no one is spared—just like South Park.

by Anonymousreply 11December 31, 2022 4:34 PM

I saw it when a touring company when it came to my city. Did not enjoy it.

by Anonymousreply 12December 31, 2022 4:47 PM

Too vulgar

by Anonymousreply 13December 31, 2022 5:21 PM

I've seen it on Broadway and in London. Vulgar and terribly funny at the same time. If South Park makes you laugh, you'll love it. If you're not a South Park fan you might still really enjoy it.

Best marketing ploy of all time: in professional productions the Church of the Latter Day Saints always places an ad saying, "You've seen the musical -now read the book!" (or something along those lines). For all it's vulgarity, the show doesn't actually attack the religion itself, and the church's response is to laugh and say, "Let us tell you more about it."

by Anonymousreply 14December 31, 2022 5:32 PM

Lol, R2, no I'm from West Virginia. I'm a hillbilly.

by Anonymousreply 15December 31, 2022 7:40 PM

Sorry R9, I will work on my grammar. You have me a chuckle though.

by Anonymousreply 16December 31, 2022 7:46 PM

Thank you guys for answering. My Son wants us to go see it. I've only been to one musical and that was years ago. When you guys say its unabashedly vulgar, do you mean nudity? Or just South Park humor?

by Anonymousreply 17December 31, 2022 7:51 PM

South Park humor. If your son is older than 14, go see it. No nudity.

by Anonymousreply 18December 31, 2022 8:14 PM

Left during intermission. Hated it. I like South Park: The Movie and Cannibal:The Musical but just hated this piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 19December 31, 2022 8:28 PM

"Don't fuck the baby!"

by Anonymousreply 20December 31, 2022 9:03 PM

They lost me at the song about fucking babies. Just no.

by Anonymousreply 21December 31, 2022 9:11 PM

OP, it’s “has anyone seen …”

by Anonymousreply 22December 31, 2022 9:13 PM

Twice – on Broadway and the Pantages in LA.

It's a fun way to waste a couple hours. If you know some mainstream grievances about Mormonism, it can be uproariously funny. But it is not memorable.

by Anonymousreply 23December 31, 2022 9:23 PM

It's entertaining but it's like a running dirty joke - the first couple of times, it's funny. After that, it just seems kind of tiresome. But even though it's called "The Book of Mormon", it makes fun of organized religion in general, not just the Mormons. But if I wasn't paying a lot of $$ for the tickets, I'd see it again.

by Anonymousreply 24December 31, 2022 9:43 PM

The first South Park movie is funnier

by Anonymousreply 25December 31, 2022 9:45 PM

It's much better than all of the new shit on Broadway now.

by Anonymousreply 26January 1, 2023 1:59 AM

I wonder if the people who hate it saw the new "woke" version. The cancel culture made them change the ending.

by Anonymousreply 27January 1, 2023 2:00 AM

[quote]The first South Park movie is funnier

There's more than one?

by Anonymousreply 28January 1, 2023 2:04 AM

If only there was a website into which one could input questions and obtain a list of links with information responsive to the question….

by Anonymousreply 29January 1, 2023 2:04 AM

^^^ were

by Anonymousreply 30January 1, 2023 2:05 AM

I saw it in London, and won free tickets at the box office lottery. We got front-row seats but not always the best since you have to look up to watch the show but it was OK. I loved it with the exception of the one angry song about God.. I am not religious but it was a bit too cringy for me.

by Anonymousreply 31January 1, 2023 3:06 AM

I realize that now R22. Sorry about that. Happy New Year to you and everyone.

by Anonymousreply 32January 1, 2023 3:26 AM

Thank you R18. My Son is 31, and really likes SP.

by Anonymousreply 33January 1, 2023 3:27 AM

R31, that's what I thought. SP humor can be funny and outrageous, but can be a little cringyy. Lucky you getting to see it in London. Happy New Year.

by Anonymousreply 34January 1, 2023 3:29 AM

Most people I’ve talked to who saw it loved it, but I personally hated it.

It’s definitely vulgar, but really not very funny. And the satire is weak as shit. The show lovingly kisses the Mormon Church’s ass, which is why they advertise in the Playbill.

by Anonymousreply 35January 1, 2023 12:16 PM

Go see it. It's clever and unbelievably hysterical. Not to mention just a great overall production to visually see as well. A perfect night at the theater.

by Anonymousreply 36January 1, 2023 1:00 PM

[quote]My Son is 31, and really likes SP

R17/R33, unless you worship him, your son doesn't need capitalization.

by Anonymousreply 37January 1, 2023 1:19 PM

R17 SP humor, why woud there be nudity? I thought it was funny at first, but it was too long. Your kid would probably like it, they kind of ride the idea into the ground. The mormon south park episode was fucking great but this was just too long.

by Anonymousreply 38January 1, 2023 1:28 PM

OP, see the show and soon...... this will be you!

Gay gay gay gay gay gay gay!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 41January 1, 2023 3:30 PM

OP, it's very funny and entertaining. I saw it years ago and had a wonderful time.

The facials expressions of the duet are precious.

by Anonymousreply 45January 1, 2023 5:42 PM

OP is God! He and his Son are off to see a musical. The Holy Ghost is sitting this one out, however.

by Anonymousreply 46January 1, 2023 6:28 PM

Obviously God and his Son were Ghosted.

by Anonymousreply 47January 1, 2023 7:11 PM

I saw the original Broadway cast and enjoyed it. Very, very funny in a sophomoric, bawdy way. But that doesn’t make it less entertaining.

Check your sense of taste at the door and enjoy yourselves!

by Anonymousreply 48January 1, 2023 9:40 PM

There used to be chunks of it on you tube. Just a lot of profanity and not funny. I remember a stage full of people of color yelling 'cunt.' No thank you.
