Courtney Love- “BRAD PITT HAD ME FIRED & RECAST IN ‘FIGHT CLUB’!!!!”
“I wouldn’t let Brad play Kurt. I went nuclear. I don’t do Faust. Who the fuck do you think are?” Love recounted.
After the meeting, Love alleges she was fired from “Fight Club,” with Norton being the one to initially break the news.
“He starts sobbing,” Love said. “And he was like, ‘I don’t have the power!’” Afterward, Fincher allegedly called Love to confirm that she was out of the film.
In spite of the alleged bad blood between Love and Pitt, the “Babylon” star allegedly hasn’t stopped trying to get a Kurt Cobain film produced. During the podcast, Love claimed she rejected a Cobain biopic pitch from Pitt and his production company Plan B as recently as 2020. Love shared that director Cameron Crowe told her, “Brad Pitt was put on this earth to stalk you for Kurt, which has been going on since 1996.”
“I don’t know if I trust you and I don’t know that your movies are for profit,” Love said. “They’re really good social justice movies, but if you don’t get me, you kind of don’t get Kurt, and I don’t feel like you do, Brad.”

I started a thread about her Maron interview late last night. I noted how insufferable, scattered, obsessed with name-dropping she was. Notably, she said she's been in contact with Kanye and seems to have a lot of sympathy for him. She also went off on how she's from money and has a lot of Jewishness on one side of her family.

R14 Courtney's always been a star-fucking name-dropper. For those who haven't seen it, here she is trying to upstage Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards way back in 1995. A veritable classic. Also, interesting to note how relatively sane Madge still is here. Fun starts at about 2:35.

She changes her story all the time. She is only fine in bit roles like in Basquiat and Feeling Minnesota, not a co-lead. She would not have worked in Fight Club. The movie was perfectly cast and I say this as someone who read the book.

R31 I thought she was over-the-top, pulling faces and mugging for the camera. I could SEE her acting. R23, he might have loved the band.
Depending on your age, you might not get how huge and important Nirvana was for young men. Say 14-30.
Especially young men who loved rock music, but also had an arty side.
I know for me, I was obsessed with Kurt and everything he represented. An artistic guy, who painted, sang, wrote poetry, but who could also be a badass, scream like a banshee, all the while standing up for women and gays in a male dominated, straight world...when he was the biggest rock star on the planet? It was so fresh. Or it felt fresh to me anyway.
I could see someone like Brad feeling similarly.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 30, 2022 8:36 AM

Really? I could see Pitt wanting to think he felt similarly, but even with his own self-delusion he'd have to realise the massive gulf between what Kurt stood for and what Pitt stands for (which is...what?)
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 30, 2022 1:14 PM

This is how this reads. Kurt Cobain was a huge cultural icon, and Pitt outside of being a fan, wanted to make a film on the Rockstar to boost his profile. The film would have been made with ambitions of being a critical and commercial success.
Now you have Courtney Love, who may have been in negotiations for the role who tried to use her leverage, but because she is an addict and mentally ill probably behaved so unprofessional and thought she could get hollywood big wigs to cater to her demands. I doubt she was ever actually casted and fired. And they just probably said fuck the whole Cobain project.

R51 only she was cast. It’s been known for years she was cast and fired. Janeane Garofalo was who they were gonna cast and Norton had that blocked so his then-GF Courtney Love could be cast. She was cast but then fired and Helena Bonham Carter was cast not long before filming started.

Kurt Cobain wasn’t just some star, he was a cultural Icon who became the face of punk, post-punk and indie rock. Nirvana made that genre (and sub-genre) mainstream. That is why Kurt became an icon. He popularized a genre to the world, and made it mainstream and became the face of it.
And then he died young and fast, immortalizing him and his status.
Playing him would be any actors dream. That’s a high profile role.

Yes r56. He brought an entire genre of music to the mainstream and made it cool with youth. Before him it was pretty much limited to Seattle. Very few listened to it around the country. And then he came and boom, everyone suddenly loved it all over the world.
People forget that punk and grunge weren’t popular until Nirvana.

How did their daughter inherit the rights if he and Courtney were married. Did she relinquish her rights to her daughter as a protective measure because she knows she's unstable.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | December 30, 2022 2:40 PM
|
R64 it’s because people kept coming for her with lawsuits and trying to put her in a conservatorship so they can take away her rights. Then THEY would own the rights. Now Courtney.
So she relinquished over 50% of her rights to their daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 30, 2022 2:48 PM
|
Courtney has spoken about how the industry tried putting her in a conservatorship, but unlike sweet Britney, they were in over their heads with her and they couldn’t get her in one because she kept fighting back. And the reason they wanted her in one was to take over the rights of her dead husband. Once you’re in a conservatorship you lose all human rights. They now can sign off his rights to someone else and she loses it all.
I’m pretty sure this led to her relinquishing her rights to her daughter, so if they were somehow successful in putting her in a conservatorship, they still don’t get the rights to her late husband.
This is also why she moved to the UK, where they now can’t do shit to her.

I believe that CL had a hand in Kurts' death and should have no say in anything.
If she's selling off rights to Nirvana she's probably broke or soon will be. Her daughter wisely dumped her after she was fucking with her money. And yes, she blamed the lawyers but it was clearly her doing.
Addicts aren't good with finances.
As for Kurt and Nirvana, they've basically become alt Elvis. The window to cash in is closing.
The world has moved on.

Then there is Julia Louis-Dreyfus effectively ruling herself out at a meeting when it became clear she had never heard of Fincher.
