R6, No, sweetie, they're not. The world laughed at the USA in 2016 for electing a traitorous con man, but they don't care that a king's former mistress turned wife is the queen consort. Hell, that's how Protestantism started in England -- when Henry VIII married his mistress and made her queen.

It’s the stuff of a future Starz limited series.

I don't care about them. I mean, I have the curiosity many have abut celebrities, but I don't "care" that she is queen. We knew that when he married her this would be the outcome. Some people get so invested in this crap. I was at a family gathering this summer and some family members are all nuts about it. They get in heated arguments about Camilla vs. Diana. Yes. Even now. Diana KNEW about Camilla before she got married. She got married anyway, citing the tea towels. And then spent the rest of the marriage trying to punish Charles for her decision to do so.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 28, 2022 1:58 AM |
Camilla's ascendancy is one of those perfect achievements over a period of decades in British history that can only be redressed by an inevitably painful decline, which will elevate her further as beloved of all the peasants who piled cellophane with rotten flowers on the lawn when the schizophrenic hit the post in Paris.
Imagine Charles being, at least for a few years, a widower - legally, this time.
There have, after all, been all those stories about Camilla's health issues. Bowling? She can't even shoot any longer because of her back.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 28, 2022 2:37 AM |
Imagine the royal family allowing the heir to marry who they love? King Edward VIII would have been married for life to the Duchess. Elizabeth wouldn't be queen until 1972 if Edward didn't have children. Prince Charles would have married Camilla right from the beginning and guess what their children would have looked like and Diana would still be living as a spinster school teacher.

r36. It wasn't the Royal Family who forced Edward VIII's hand in the abdication. It was that the Church of England refused to be headed by a King married to a divorcee, especially one with a husband still living. The C of E is almost unrecognizably different now, so Charles's marriage to Camilla did not pose the same problem for them (although they had to marry in the Church of Scotland because they were both divorced).
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 28, 2022 3:11 AM |

r41 You're right - I can't believe I mixed those up! Thanks. Yes it was a civil ceremony at the Guildhall because the C of E didn't approve of marrying divorcees whose ex spouse is still living. Anne's was indeed the Co S wedding.

In an interview she admitted that when Charles first bought Dumfries House, she was touring the wreck and on one of the landings froze completely in terror because she knew a ghost was there. She said she she told Charles she would rather not go back there every time he went to check the restoration, but when it was finished she went back and whatever spirit was there had completely gone, to her amazement and now she loves staying there and helping with all the work-training projects Charles has set up in its grounds (carpentry, gardening, horticultural centre, etc). I wonder if Charles got in a Catholic priest to do an exorcism? I've always heard that only Catholics can get it done.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 28, 2022 5:41 AM |
Probably the ghost of Diana.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 28, 2022 6:06 AM |
Diana had never been to Dumfries House.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 28, 2022 6:08 AM |
Whether by temperament or design, Camilla did exactly what was required to gain public approval. She took on a few unglamorous charitable causes (osteoporosis and domestic violence) and worked at them. She has been a tireless advocate for military personnel and their families. She appeared cordial to William and Harry, but never motherly. And she never once sought to achieve the same attention as the late Queen.
I think her success, though, is at least in part due to the effect she has on Charles. He’s prone to neuroticism and petulance and she makes him happier and more secure. With her by his side, he seems like the confident head of a moderately happy family despite the ructions caused by Harry. Without her, he would seem like a sad, less stable figurehead.

by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 28, 2022 12:32 PM |
I never resented Camilla or made her the villain in the piece. And I have never been one to canonize Diana. What I didn't like is the fact that a 31 year old man chose a 19 yr old girl to marry even as he knew he was in love with someone else and continued to maintain a relationship with that third person.
And Diana was naive enough to believe Charles when he told her the bracelet was a "good bye" present and he had ended his affair with Camilla, before the wedding. Yes Diana discovered the affair, and she had serious doubts, but everyone around her pressured her to go through with the marriage. Charles did and so did her sisters.
The fact is, affairs were commonplace with Camilla's social set. Charles was part of that too, as was Princess Anne. Camilla's husband was well known for bedding anything with a pulse. The RF was no stranger to mistresses and affairs. It came with the territory. That's the bubble they lived in for decades.
So everyone expected Diana to "grow up" and shut up and put up with it. And she did try to go down that road, having affairs of her own. But she had always had this fairytale image of being a Royal Princess and she had a level of anger at Charles for deceiving her, misleading her. And no one in that RF had a bit of sympathy or supportive advice for her.
The whole tawdry episode was messy.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 28, 2022 12:36 PM |
The most utterly pathetic thing about her is the way she lumbers about like a longshoreman. One could easily get past her looks if she didn’t walk without an ounce of grace.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 28, 2022 12:39 PM |
Look. Camilla never pretended to be a great beauty or any kind of fashion icon. She has always been very comfortable in her own skin. She seems very authentic to me. Relatable. And Charles chose her, right? So you can criticize his taste if you must, but IMO dumping on Camilla just because she is rather plain and dumpy is silly. She has always always been plain and dumpy. It's not like she "let herself go." kind of situation. She is herself.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 28, 2022 12:57 PM |
So now do we have to call her “Her Majesty?”
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 28, 2022 1:30 PM |
From adulteress to royal mistress to queen - you cannot forget that she spent years cheating on her husband.
You know she was Regina George while in school back in the stone age when "bullying" wasn't even a thing, just something some people just naturally did.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 28, 2022 1:35 PM |
What’s fascinating about her lack of elegance is the fact she is a born and bred aristocrat. You would think she was raised in a council flat in Essex rather than a stately home where she socialized exclusively with other aristocrats.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | December 28, 2022 1:37 PM |
r66, yes.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 28, 2022 5:50 PM |
R68, but she's a country girl at heart. She loves her estate and her horses. And Tom Parker Bowles was on of the most notorious cheaters in that aristocratic set.

Wasn't Charles recorded saying he wanted to be a tampon and shoved up her pussy?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 28, 2022 6:38 PM |
Really, R71? That has never been mentioned on the DL! OH
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 28, 2022 6:45 PM |
R68 While there many attractive, thin well-dressed aristocrats, there are also many who have such confidence that they don’t care about looks and fashion and look like they’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards.
When she first became well-known, Camilla was described by someone who knows her as “Camilla is someone who can ride to hounds all day, get off her horse, stump straight to her bedroom and put on a ball gown without bothering to bathe or brush her hair”. And “Camilla is the laziest woman in the world”.
I rather like that about her.

by Anonymous | reply 76 | December 28, 2022 11:19 PM |
I don't care about Camilla? I mean I don't hate her. I don't get pre occupied with how she dresses or how terribly lined and dry her skin is, or the bad teeth (A living tribute to the UK). She's just not that interesting. I think she has two or three causes she cares about and I like that she started a book club, but really. The RF as a whole is not interesting. Andrew was the most interesting and only because he is a pervert.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | December 29, 2022 1:11 AM |
R75 Is this a common fantasy? Do her loyal subjects wish to be transformed into tampons and shove up into her dusty vagina, waiting for discharge that will never arrive? Did you wish this with the previous queen?
by Anonymous | reply 78 | December 29, 2022 8:30 AM |
R78 If you want to pass judgement on a forty year old conversation I suggest that you read the transcript (it’s freely available) but I’m sure that you’re way too precious for that. In it, he said that his fear would be to end up as her tampon, rather than the opposite.
The issue with the conversation was that it was illegally recorded, not the content.
Now gather up your skirts, flounce out of the room and go have a rest on your fainting couch.
