I'd have more respect for Takei if he would let go of his grudge against Shatner. I'm sure Shatner had a big ego and was difficult to work with but it's time to move on.

George rubs people the wrong way . He’s creepy and cold eyes .

He's promoting his stage work, which sounds quite worthy, and he's smart enough and experienced enough to know that giving the Guardian a few quotes on Shatner will help give that work exposure.

Having said that, while I get the dislike he has for Shatner, which all the cast apparently shared, I don't get the apparent hatred, which does seem real and undimmed by time.

many that initially supported Takei now support Shatner simply because while Shatner remains a pompous blowhard in their minds, he tends to take a positive approach and Takei has become increasingly more bitter over the years. It also didn't help that some of his claims have allegedly been proven false, such as the wedding invite. And he still brings up Walter Koenig, too, into the mix of this.. apparently becoming a mountain of grievances directed to the show itself.

Shatner is a horrible human being. Even Leonard Nimoy cut him out of his life at the end, and Nimoy was probably the nicest, most understanding, most chill person Shatner ever had in his life.

Every few months we get a thread about this and everyone on DL says Takei is wrong, which doesn't make any sense because no one ever talks about Shatner or gives a shit about him otherwise, so it's not like he's a DL fave.

I generally don't buy into the idea that DL shits all over famous gays just because they're gay, but when the topic of Takei comes up, I start to wonder if maybe it's true.

I don't have to pay attention to this feud. I can like each guy. Not everything in life is a binary. Celebrities can testy people in their private lives but if they are not monsters, the public has a right to enjoy the public persona and creative output. I like Shatner's public persona. And he is upbeat. Sure he's a big ham but that's part of his charm. I think he's funny and not at all brain dead - still actively interested in the zeitgeist and also big questions.

R15, our culture teaches us that men aren't supposed to have personal, emotionally-tinged feuds. They are supposed to punch it out and then it's over. They are not supposed to display an emotional loathing and definitely not make comments that can be characterised as "bitchy". We are programmed by society to see men who behave this way in a negative light, while, in contrast, we as gay men love feuds between feisty, powerful women. You could call the discrepancy homophobia.

The people who say Shatner is positive and upbeat don't read his Twitter. He's constantly bitching, it's just incessant with him.

I saw Shatner work without a script when some Trek cast people did "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". John DeLancie and Levar Burton were bright and charming and knew everything, and Shatner came off as the dumbest thing alive and probably drunk.

Oh, well good thing I don't read Shatner's twitter. Life is too short. I see Shatner on the silly series he narrates, and his spots with Anderson Cooper, and talk show types, and he's fun.

Ironic that Takei is a pretty big diva himself.

Takei does have a creepy smile. His very deep voice is off-putting too.

I just don't think it's fair of him to hate Shatner for being a lot more famous and working a lot more than him. Shatner was damn good-looking man, even into his fifties. He was born that way. It's like hating tall folks out of envy because you're short. It's dumb. Tall people have done nothing wrong in just existing. Also, Shatner comes across as charming, when he wants to be. Takei? No.

I think Takei had dreams of being another Bruce Lee, and the fact that he hasn't even neared Lee's legendary status probably embitters him a whole lot. Envy is the man's problem. Envy of Shatner is the root of this feud.

The thing you've got to remember about the DL when you run across these kinds of opinions is that they do not come from actual gay folks, but from the incursion of hordes of straight incel white nationalist trolls from 4chan which have staked a claim here, and take their runs at propaganda in shifts; they're always on the job. Shatner (or rather, their special take on Captain Kirk as a rampaging heterosexual borderline rapist) is one of their cultural heroes, and Takei is gay. Never underestimate the poisonous contempt of these partisans for self-admitted homosexuals.

That's where the preference for Shatner/hatred for Takei is coming from.

Did any of you ever watch "The Captains' Summit"? Whoopi Goldberg talks to Shatner, Nimoy, Stewart and Frakes. It's over an hour long and I first saw it on one of the Star Trek DVD extras. It can be found on Youtube.

At one point, Shatner pontificates how he had never watched an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", coming across as if he was too important to watch the show, couldn't be bothered, etc. Rather insulting to Stewart & Frakes. But Nimoy responds that although he and Shatner are friends, he know for a fact that Shatner is full of shit on this topic. (Steward, Frakes and Whoopi love Nimoy's comment and burst out laughing.)

That's the impression of ego maniac Shatner and his trying to demean those actors from the other show. Nimoy, always the class act, did not let him get away with it.

BTW, well worth watching if you haven't seen it.

It's hard to tell how much they all hated each other, want to fuck each other or just continue to bring up drama for the conventions and to remind people they were still there. Of course, much of it is fueled by media and public interest, too.
