The early seasons were spot on satire with an all around amazing ensemble cast. No real likeable characters other than George Michael. Oddly enough I found Batemans character to be the most loathsome. Jessica Walters was pitch petfect of course. Thought the Charlize Theron episodes were truly horrible.

Edit: Perfect.

First season was the only great one. The second and the third one were only okay. Those newer ones were watchable, but far from that early stuff.

Loved S1 and S2. I mostly agree that the Charlize eps were a complete misfire.
I haven't seen them in years: was her character truly meant to be mentally retarded/disabled? That was pretty awful then and would be forbidden now.
The NETFLIX seasons were a complete waste of time and effort, IMHO.

Theron wasn't right for AD but I think the producers were just too excited by their big " get". Comedies often go downhill when they start having major stars as guests.

"I'll have a vodka."
"It's breakfast, mother."
"And some toast."

Motherboy was my favorite episode.

Agree about first two seasons being pitch perfect satire and acting.

Arreschted Development. I wasvh in that schow.

The Netflix seasons are an embarrassment.

Did Jessica walter and Tambor not get along in general or was their big blow up a one time thing?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 26, 2022 12:27 AM |
Tambor blew up at Walter during the Netflix seasons and there haven't been any reports of tension during the original run of the show.

I haven't bothered with the 5th season on Netflix, and I loved the original 3 seasons. Is it even worth checking out?

The fifth season is as bad as the fourth season.

How old is Jessica Walter now?

Jessica Walter is dead.

Well, she looks great!

Huh. I prefer the Netflix seasons. I especially love Maeby’s “Annette” persona.

R14 Walter passed away in 2021

R17 Alia grew into an interesting actress.

I feel that American comedies should take note from the brits and end sitcoms after a couple of seasons. There's only so much you can say after a point.

Just because you have nothing to say doesn't mean you stop talking.

R3 yes she was supposed to to be mentally disabled due to her parents being cousins.

The fourth season was unwatchable. The creators recut it and it wasn’t any better. Season 5 was a bit better.
Season 1 and 2 are brilliant. Season 3 got weird and off track. Still good but not great.

Didn't see AD when originally aired. Recently binged watched it in a weeks time. Seasons 1 and 2 are masterpieces. 3, decent but shaky. 4 and 5, unwatchable (barely got through them). Especially loathed Tony Hale's season 4 and 5 performances. His mentally challenged baby voice and excessive mugging on steroids, was excruciating to get through. Loved him in "Veep". Loved "Maybe". She had no fucks to give, and consistently showed it. David Cross although talented, worked my last nerve by seasons 4 and 5.

I actually joined Netflix just to see new seasons of Arrested Development to see subsequent seasons of AD.
