Sorry, but small towns are superior to cities during Christmas season

Everyone says “NYC is amazing during Christmas” or “Boston is beautiful during Christmas season”, and they very well may be, but there is nothing like a sweet pretty quiet calm small town or very small city during Christmas season.

Also, they actually feel like Christmas. It’s not just pretty to look at, but there is something very positive and kind in the air. In major cities it feels like everyone is miserable and stressed.

Also, this young man is super cute with a lovely voice.

I agree with you, OP.

I’ve experienced both small town & big city Christmases, and understand exactly what you mean.

by Anonymousreply 1December 24, 2022 7:15 PM

How is the mayor of Creston IA celebrating? Someone call him up.

by Anonymousreply 2December 24, 2022 7:15 PM

You're "sorry?" Why would you be sorry?

by Anonymousreply 3December 24, 2022 7:16 PM

Quick, get Fred Specktor on the phone. This boy should be in pictures!

by Anonymousreply 4December 24, 2022 7:18 PM

R4 lmao that made me laugh

by Anonymousreply 5December 24, 2022 7:30 PM

I grew up in a small town and there's no way I'd go back there for Christmas. No decorations, sullen people passive-aggressing at each other, dismal weather... no fank you!

by Anonymousreply 6December 24, 2022 8:11 PM

R6 sad you grew up in a dull one. Some of the ones I’ve visited are nothing like that.

by Anonymousreply 7December 24, 2022 8:12 PM

"Some" being the operative word, r7. There's a reason so many of us moved to big cities. Despite the romanticized notion of small town life some people have, many of them are bland and dreary.

by Anonymousreply 8December 24, 2022 10:12 PM

R8 I don’t think anyone moved to a big city because they didn’t see enough Christmas lights this time of year. And smaller towns and suburbs are way more festive. And that isn’t an opinion.

by Anonymousreply 9December 24, 2022 10:14 PM

FOR FUCKSAKES shut up. Why aren't we talking about the small town young man?

by Anonymousreply 10December 24, 2022 10:31 PM

I'm a small town person, but I think San Francisco can be really nice during Christmas-time.

by Anonymousreply 11December 24, 2022 10:33 PM

MAGATS and bigots and fat fraus. No, thanks.

by Anonymousreply 12December 24, 2022 10:34 PM

Not all smaller towns are like that r12. He doesn’t appear to be in a trashy one, but a nice one.

by Anonymousreply 13December 24, 2022 10:47 PM

[quote]I don’t think anyone moved to a big city because they didn’t see enough Christmas lights this time of year. And smaller towns and suburbs are way more festive. And that isn’t an opinion.

Oh, I'm sorry, r8. I forgot that you have lived in every small town in every state, so if it didn't happen to you, it must not have happened to anyone else. Do carry on with your Hallmark version of small town reality.

by Anonymousreply 14December 24, 2022 11:26 PM

I live (RENT- there is a difference) in a very small(less than 5500K) and wealthy (not me) seaside town in New England, and it is utterly charming,

The country club has a full size Santa and Reindeer sleigh with gifts right at the entrance (It's like a childhood dream)

One dude used to have the towns name in lights along the coastal route on his fence- It was so beautiful and was a big part of my Christmas,

He sold that home and those lights are no longer there as of last year (and this year) I really miss it. It was lovely.

by Anonymousreply 15December 24, 2022 11:53 PM

[quote]less than 5500K

Less than 5,500,000? That must be really small.

by Anonymousreply 16December 25, 2022 12:07 AM

If you’re an organized shoplifter, you need to go where the good stores are.

by Anonymousreply 17December 25, 2022 12:32 AM

What happened to the link in OPs post of the cute guy singing? I can’t see it.

by Anonymousreply 18December 25, 2022 1:41 AM

R18 Nothing happened to it.

by Anonymousreply 19December 25, 2022 1:43 AM

I’m on my phone now trying to show it to friends and there’s no link on my phone.

by Anonymousreply 20December 25, 2022 1:47 AM

I don't care about Xmas decorations and wassail bowls and shoppers moving briskly with trailing cashmere scarves from Xmas last, but if I did, it's much fucking more impressive in a city than in some Goobersville small town. There's more of it, the variety is better, there's competition to improve quality and spur some innovation better quality (the display of model trains in a drug store window doesn't fare well against a series of themed shop windows in a smart department store created by someone with a a masters in visual merchandising and 12 years experience with luxury brands and unlimited budgets.)

I like.small towns. I like big cities. I like small and medium sized cities, but if it's Xmas you like I would never send anyone anywhere but a big city where they do it well.

by Anonymousreply 21December 25, 2022 2:15 AM

I understand it’s human nature to try and position / insist what you like is better than what anybody else could possibly like - but given that most of us grew up with the world telling us that that one thing we REALLY liked was WRONG - you’d think there’d be less of it here in the DL.

by Anonymousreply 22December 25, 2022 4:57 AM

This is so sad!!

Last year's Christmas in Mariupol, Ukraine.

Who's the cute guy posted by OP? 🔥🔥🔥

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

by Anonymousreply 24December 25, 2022 12:06 PM

OP watches too many Hallmark movies. The carefully curated affluent British Columbia village where they film all those things is as phony as a Hollywood soundstage.

by Anonymousreply 25December 25, 2022 1:25 PM

What gives it away, R25? The 4 tons of fairy lights and 300k gallons of foam snow?

by Anonymousreply 26December 25, 2022 1:27 PM

R25 you should get out more. Go to a small upper-middle class town or wealthy town, it’s beautiful during Christmas season.

Of course you’re not gonna get that in a lower-middle class town or poor town. No one is speaking about that.

by Anonymousreply 27December 25, 2022 2:45 PM

R18 you probably kept FFing it because you’re a hater. A low class one at that.

But here it is.

R12, MAGAs, bigots and fraus are Walmart shoppers.

by Anonymousreply 29December 25, 2022 3:03 PM

R29 is only used to poor-to-low middle class towns. Sorry you’ve never experienced the beauty of Upper Middle Class-to-Wealthy class small towns or suburbs. They’re quite beautiful and clean and safe. Not what you describe, minus maybe having some Republicans. But they aren’t the poor moron types you stereotype.

Here is the young man singing as he strolls through his beautiful lit up small town.

by Anonymousreply 30December 25, 2022 3:35 PM

Oh yeah. Big cities are depressing. There's more Christmas sorry in small towns.

by Anonymousreply 31December 25, 2022 3:53 PM

There's Christmas sorry everywhere.

Is this guy on TikTok? Wondering how to look at more of his content.

by Anonymousreply 32December 25, 2022 3:57 PM

I’m born and raised in NYC. It’s beautiful in some parts during Christmas season. But the people seem mostly miserable and stressed during this time of year. There is no joy anymore. In the 90s and even mid-00s you could still feel that Christmas spirit in the air during December, but it’s gone now. And it’s not just me, I see it in many people and others saying it. And this is in all cities now. Everyone just seems annoyed and stressed during Christmas time now. It’s sad.

The one positive thing I can say about the smaller towns is they’re not overcrowded and they’re more quiet and slow paced, which allows a bit more of a mellow vibe there. Cities seem so congested and stressed now.

by Anonymousreply 33December 25, 2022 3:58 PM

In a small town you're likely to run into people you know when you're out doing some last minute shopping, returning a book to the library, or stopping in at the bank or post office. On the other hand, more and more things are being done online, which eliminates a lot of the human contact. Also, for some reason, in some small towns the police are always out looking to trap you in forgetting to fully stop at a stop sign, or things like that, right around the holidays.

by Anonymousreply 34December 25, 2022 4:23 PM

R34 the police part is usually because they have quotas they have to meet before years end.

by Anonymousreply 35December 25, 2022 4:25 PM

I don’t think people realize the pressure put on law enforcement or even just security staff in businesses and how they have quotas to meet.

I know someone who was a security guard for Target and he said each member of the security team has quotas to meet every week in stopping people from stealing etc. he actually got in trouble for not stopping enough people from stealing, but issue was there wasn’t a lot of people stealing in general in this area/store. He ended up getting written up.

by Anonymousreply 36December 25, 2022 4:28 PM

No need for a false opposition — both can be charming.

I live just north of nyc in a rivertown after having been in Manhattan and I’m a little sad I’m not in the city again til Wednesday when I go in for an in-office day. (We’re hybrid.)

I enjoy the small town and big city for what each offers. Merry Christmas, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 37December 25, 2022 4:30 PM

I am enchanted with the adorable singer in OP's post. But there's no info on Streamable and no way to leave a comment. I wonder how we can figure out who he is?

by Anonymousreply 38December 25, 2022 5:51 PM

Found him!

His name's Sam Dearie.

R39 I was waiting for you to do that. Proof that you live on the fucking internet. No job. No school. Nothing. On an online Internet forum all day everyday

by Anonymousreply 40December 25, 2022 7:24 PM

⬆️ La Gordita Puta telling on himself again.

by Anonymousreply 41December 25, 2022 7:25 PM

R41 stupid. Tracers show it’s not me. We have very different locations. Moron. So fucking uneducated

by Anonymousreply 42December 25, 2022 7:28 PM

R41 PS thanks for handing me more proof that you gave tools to stalk people. 😊

by Anonymousreply 43December 25, 2022 7:28 PM

Merry Christmas, Consuela Catfish!!! 😘😘😘

by Anonymousreply 44December 25, 2022 7:29 PM

R44 for someone who lives on an online forum and with tools to stalk strangers online, I would think you would have learned the definition of catfish by now. But then again, you have no employment. No education. Nothing. So not surprised.

Thanks for handing me more info though. This thread and the Nebraska one were amazing bait and you took it.

by Anonymousreply 45December 25, 2022 7:35 PM

“You’re gross. Unfollow me please.”

by Anonymousreply 46December 25, 2022 7:37 PM

All this proof handed to me. Thrilled honestly

by Anonymousreply 47December 25, 2022 7:39 PM

R46 PS those words were never said to me. Uneducated. Wow. 😂

by Anonymousreply 48December 25, 2022 7:39 PM

Sorry about your baldness. And fatness.

by Anonymousreply 49December 25, 2022 7:40 PM

R49 don’t be sorry. Be sorry that you took the bait.

by Anonymousreply 50December 25, 2022 7:43 PM

[quote] Sorry you’ve never experienced the beauty of Upper Middle Class-to-Wealthy class small towns or suburbs.

Mary.

by Anonymousreply 51December 25, 2022 7:46 PM

On another note, that singer is really good. Just looked at his TikTok.

by Anonymousreply 52December 26, 2022 1:00 AM

Thanks R39! How the hell did you figure that out?

by Anonymousreply 53January 4, 2023 4:45 PM

Great to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there.

by Anonymousreply 54January 4, 2023 4:52 PM

Just bumping this thread to say this kid was on The Voice this season. I don't watch the show but since I followed him on Instagram after seeing this thread, I notice he posted about it. I think he was just eliminated.
