White Christmas
Bing Crosby was 50 yrs old when he filmed this classic
Vera Ellen, per Wikipedia didn’t really have an eating disorder. She danced and swam her whole life. She had one child that died in infancy due to SIDS
Rosemary C had bipolar. Still very successful
Danny Kaye, gay?

Vera Ellen had an eating disorder, OP. Visible when she was older and the smoke and mirrors didn't work their magic.

I love that dance sequence. Have seen some modern takes on it and it makes me glad we have the original, and the best.
Mary Wickes once again brings here inimitable comic timing for us to appreciate.
They considered Astaire for this film, and he wasn't interested. Donald O'Connor had to withdraw due to an illness.
How many drag and gay bars have done the "Sisters" number, I wonder?
Danny Kaye? The most talented of all the cast. Triple threat.

Yeah, no. It’s transparently obvious to anyone that Vera Ellen had a serious eating disorder, just like Audrey Hepburn.

Rosemary Clooney look positively fat next to Vera (and of course, she wasn’t)

Vera looked pretty obese to me.

" White Christmas"? Sorry, it's been cancelled for it's title suggesting that Christmas is only for white people.

Creepy old Bing Crosby manages to make *Danny Kaye* look good in this schlock-fest.

There’s no romantic or sexual chemistry among any of the four leads.

I love this movie but there is no story and it's annoying how Clooney's character acts like a bitch for the second half of the movie all because of a dumb misunderstanding. But it's entertaining.

The General guy is kind of a hot daddy. It's on tv right now...

“Dumb misunderstandings” have been at the center of tv and movie plots for decades, R11. They’re one of the laziest writing tropes that exist.

r12 The general was played by character actor Dean Jagger. He was usually the stalwart, no nonsense type, and has a pretty crowded filmography.

Vera Ellen was, indeed, suffering from an eating disorder most of her life. The OP obviously doesn't understand that athletes and dancers can perform - and do - despite the difficulties they experience. Vera Ellen had to have her costumes fitted to manage her skeletal arms and back that looked like something left of a roasted chicken after a meal.

Dean Jagger was 6 months younger than Der Bingle in real life.

That's one thing I don't understand. If Clooney left the show because she thought Bing was exploiting the general's misfortunes, why would she watch the Ed Harrison Show, especially with a smile? If she thought his motives were selfish, why wouldn't she avoid watching at all cost? Of course- it's a movie and a fictional story, but that part just doesn't make sense.

Why was Vera Ellen's neck always covered?

^I always wondered that too, but I suppose it would highlight how emaciated she was.

R12. Jagger was a fine actor—won Best Supporting Actor for Twelve O’Clock in a wonderful understated performance, and up against such formidable competition as Ralph Richardson for The Heiress, Arthur Kennedy for Champion, John Ireland in All the King’s Me, James Whitmore for Battleground—any of them would have been worthy. Good year for film—All the King’s Men, The Heiress, A Letter to Three Wives, Battleground, and Twelve O’Clock High. Jagger notably went without his toupee for 12–he said he would have done so earlier if he knew it would win him an Oscar!

There are song & dance sequences in this movie that I adore, but as a whole, I've never enjoyed it. However, I do think Danny Kaye marvelous in this. I think he makes der Bingle actually laugh during their "Sisters" routine. His dancing with Vera during "The Best Things Happen When You're Dancing" is so lithe and graceful There's very little editing, we just get to enjoy the choreography. And later, his "Choreography" scene is a delight.
