Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. By far the best version.

Metropolitan. I'm really not into Christmas movies, but this feels close enough for me.

From the list, A Christmas Story. But Gremlins is really my favorite.

I grew up with Charlie Brown Christmas (I still love the soundtrack!) and was raised an atheist, but was in an abusive relationship as a teenager where the family watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” whilst strong-arming the kids to attend midnight mass because the métis grandpa had died of alcoholism around christmas. Such a fucking mess, and I’m glad to be shot of it.

A Charlie Brown Christmas is my favorite, but my favorite on the poll would be A Christmas Story if it didn’t have the corny narration and the mother’s anachronistic ‘80s perm.

Little Women
The Little Princess
The Secret Garden
Anne of Green Gables I & II
Meet Me in St. Louis
On Moonlight Bay...
I don't know.. there were several -- some not specifically "Christmas" or holiday themed but tradition to watch around that time.

R13, I always read the mother's perm in A Christmas Story as her being such a frumpy, frazzled hausfrau that she couldn't be bothered to -- or couldn't afford to -- have her hair marcelled, pinned up, etc. She just sort of let it fall in a way that would have been considered very frowzy by any decent woman of the era.
It doesn't even really look like an 80s-styled perm; more like someone with naturally curly hair who just doesn't bother to do anything with it.
The rest of the costumes, sets, etc, are totally on-point and other women (and men) seen in the film do have the correct hair for the period. That's why I assume the hairstyle was an intentionally anachronistic choice.

A Hallmark movie, “November Christmas” with Sam Elliott, John Corbett, Sarah Paulson, okaying a mother, and Marian Ravenswood (Karen Allen). Tearjerker. The kid is terminal, parents are terrified, older couple offer help and everyone wins. I also watch “The Bishop’s Wife,” “Desk Set” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” every year.

R26 nice pick. That movie makes me feel cozy and icky at the same time, just like my family. It had an interesting release, the studio botched the trailer and poster and re-released it with a new campaign but the damage was done. Read about it on the wiki page, photo is the original poster and I always loved one critic’s comparison of it to Elmer Fudd.

Did Doris Day ever make a Christmas movie. She made that remake of “Four Daughters” and Frank Sinatra had a supporting part. I think there was a Christmas scene in that one. It was a poor career move not to make a Christmas movie that could play on television forever.

I also like to watch In the Good Old Summertime, with Judy Garland and Van Johnson (Golden Age Queen!). In spite of the title, most of the movie takes place in winter

Thank you, R71. I liked the two Vacation movies and had never seen Christmas so I turned it on over the holidays. Didn't last 20 minutes. Maybe it gets better, but that first 20 or so was painful. I thought it was just me given its cult favorite status.
