1. Somehow she's managed to make herself uglier, which didn't seem possible

So, common method of reaching critical is managing via over the counter meds (like dayquil, allergy pills, etc) is a common, so they supress symptoms but don't eliminate the issue. . . which might have an underlining issue as well ... and it inevitably catches up and overwhelms the body. For women, it's also been linked to the likelihood of early heart issues as well. This l ikelihood increases tenfold if they had a child after 36. . . not counting pre-existing autoimmune issues, inclusive of latex allergies (which lasses of a certain age have)... anyway, most of that shit eventually spills over to effusion. so, pick what you want to blame.

Poor girl is probably worn out. They've got Dean's 3 kids from his 1st marriage living with them now on top of their kids. Well his 2 kids and 1 that's technically not his since he divorced the 1st wife before the adoption was finalized and the wife adopted the girl on her own.
