Sonya Eddy is dead to me.

She was 55. Very sad.

Did she ever get any real storylines? Wasn't she Jessie Brewers lover?

by Anonymousreply 1December 20, 2022 7:18 PM

I hope they don't recast her part and give her a proper send-off.

She was the realest character I ever saw on daytime TV.

by Anonymousreply 2December 20, 2022 7:19 PM

Jessie Brewer should have have been so lucky.

by Anonymousreply 3December 20, 2022 7:20 PM

Gabourey Cinnabon could replace her.

by Anonymousreply 4December 20, 2022 7:22 PM

Her figure skating career was unparalleled.

by Anonymousreply 5December 20, 2022 7:23 PM

Will Billy Dee Williams release a statement?

by Anonymousreply 6December 20, 2022 7:24 PM

A wonderful turn as Rebecca De Mornay on Seinfeld.

Very sad.

Frankie V, Nancy Lee and Kin have commented.

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2022 7:42 PM

God speed, Rebecca De Mornay.

by Anonymousreply 9December 20, 2022 7:42 PM

She was also a wonderful character actress. I remember her in Married with Children, Tracey Takes on, and Seinfeld. How sad.

Has Nelson commented?

by Anonymousreply 12December 20, 2022 7:45 PM

Big girl you were beautiful

by Anonymousreply 13December 20, 2022 7:47 PM

Sing girl. And carry the memories of the good years of GH with you.

Sad. And way too young to go.

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2022 7:52 PM

It took me a minute to get the Sonja Henie joke.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2022 8:01 PM

She had a fat ass but she couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 17December 20, 2022 8:04 PM

Great career move!

by Anonymousreply 18December 20, 2022 8:08 PM

She looks like Star Jones

by Anonymousreply 19December 20, 2022 8:14 PM

The cast must be so sad right now. Reminds me of when the woman who played Mary Mae died. She was also beloved.

by Anonymousreply 20December 20, 2022 8:29 PM

I'm a lawyah, r19.

by Anonymousreply 21December 20, 2022 8:31 PM

I remember the first year she lost the pie eating contest to Kirsten Storms at the GH field day. She showed such grace, waiting until she got home to finish that banana cream.

by Anonymousreply 22December 20, 2022 8:45 PM

She died of an infection.

by Anonymousreply 23December 20, 2022 9:37 PM

She was one of Norway's greatest figure skaters.

by Anonymousreply 24December 20, 2022 10:19 PM

Was she the nurse? And wasn’t she on Seinfeld, Rebecca Demorney, in the muffin top episode? If so, I remember her well.

by Anonymousreply 25December 20, 2022 10:30 PM

Yes and yes.

by Anonymousreply 26December 20, 2022 10:38 PM

Cause ?

by Anonymousreply 27December 21, 2022 1:03 AM

Never ever heard of her.

by Anonymousreply 28December 21, 2022 1:07 AM

I just kept thinking she looks as big as Lizzo, who will not live to 55.

by Anonymousreply 30December 21, 2022 1:11 AM

R29, seeks step & fetch to me

by Anonymousreply 31December 21, 2022 1:12 AM

OP, why don't you just give the homeless some chicken skins and lobster shells??

How long did Barbara Cook live?

Further details have been uncovered regarding the tragic passing of long-time General Hospital star, Sonya Eddy. TMZ has reported that after an ordinary surgical procedure on December 9th, Eddy contracted a severe infection which quickly began to spiral out of control. She was readmitted to the hospital and placed on life support shortly thereafter–but sadly passed away this past Monday night. She was 55 years old.

by Anonymousreply 34December 21, 2022 5:29 AM

R24 I don’t know her.

by Anonymousreply 35December 21, 2022 5:42 AM

Yikes. Obesity does potentially complicate a lot of surgeries, both intra- and postoperatively. Many surgeons and anesthesiologists won't go forward until a patient loses a certain amount of weight, and a higher risk for infectious complications is one reason of many. I don't know what Eddy was having done, though, just that it was planned and non-emergent.

A talented lady, both as actor and singer. I'm glad she found a role on GH in the last 15+ years that she could stick with.

And she once backed down Suge Knight, so much respect.

THIS was Jessie Brewer's man, R1.

Jessie Brewer and Steve Hardy at the cardboard nurses station. Those were the days.

I loved how they would change the giant number on the elevator door to let you know they were on a different floor.

by Anonymousreply 38December 21, 2022 8:34 AM

At that weight, it’s pretty likely she was diabetic…which greatly increases the risk of infection and poor wound healing after surgery.

by Anonymousreply 39December 21, 2022 2:25 PM

^ Yeah, she was a type 2 diabetic. They wrote that into the character she played on GH, too.

by Anonymousreply 40December 21, 2022 2:54 PM

They didn't tag on a brief tribute for her at the end of the show today. I was disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 41December 21, 2022 7:03 PM

Bless her. But, even though she wasnt really known to the general public, being African-American, she will suddenly become labeled a lifelong iconic actress whose death is both untimely and tragic, with insistences that people all over the globe are mourning her death. There will be tributes everywhere, movies and television shows dedicated to her. That’s kind of what we do now. At least for Black people.
