“Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy” (1977) by David Bowie & Bing Crosby is now 45 years old

Dear God, this is easily one of my favorite Christmas songs since childhood. It’s a masterpiece. I remember it would play on the radio during Christmas season when I was a child, but now you never ever hear it anymore. Is it a forgotten gem 45 years after it premiered?

Their voices blend together so beautifully, the arrangement is lovely and those vocals!!! My goodness. Both of them sound terrific.

It is sad that a month later Crosby died. But he was very ill. Bowie said that Crosby introduced himself to Bowie numerous times within the short time they filmed this. RIP.

What a masterpiece. I’m so happy this song popped in my head out of nowhere. I hadn’t heard it this year yet. I always make sure to listen to it the week of Christmas and remember these two legends.

R1 agreed. It’s just so beautiful. So much talent between those two.

I agree, OP. One of my favorites.

Such a weird duet. Bowie and Bing? Just strange.

But I also love it.

R4 that was the point of the pairing. It was an odd pairing. An old time legend paired with a young modern contemporary artist. Two completely different generations and styles of singing joining and making music together.

Yuck

Leslie Jordan and Cheyenne Jackson covered this. It’s awful.

One of the best Christmas songs

My brother has been dead for 20 years now but when we were kids he was so into Bowie, he loved this song and we looked forward to the video every year. I was just thinking of this yesterday whilst dowloading Christmas in Hollis and some Bad Religion Christmas songs. This is still awesome, thanks!
