Nancy Pelosi's portrait unveiled in the Capitol. Congratulations, Madame Speaker.

John Boehner pays tribute:

"You’ve been incredibly effective as the leader of your caucus. The younger generation today has a saying: 'Game recognizes game.' The fact of the matter is no other speaker of the House in the modern era — Republican or Democrat — has wielded the gavel with such authority or with such consistent results," Boehner said, calling Pelosi "one tough cookie."

"My girls told me tell the speaker how much we admire her," Boehner said, choking back tears as he spoke. "As if you couldn't tell, my girls are Democrats," he said to laughs at the ceremony in the Capitol.

It's an okay portrait, but I prefer her with her current hair.

by Anonymousreply 1December 15, 2022 12:01 AM

My gawd, I cannot believe how misty I feel listening to Boehner. His self-deprecating joke about his daughters…..that’s how I remember (some!!!) Republicans from when I was a child, my grandfather was actually kind of like John. It’s a shame that Dems didn’t do formal outreach to recruit people like him, I think more of them would have joined the Dems.

by Anonymousreply 2December 15, 2022 12:07 AM

I always thought Boehner wanted a little of that

by Anonymousreply 3December 15, 2022 12:39 AM

In our lifetime, we will never have another fighter like her. God help us.

by Anonymousreply 4December 15, 2022 12:41 AM

[quote]It's an okay portrait, but I prefer her with her current hair.

The shorter cut is professional and no-nonsense. Ya want her to look like Sophia Loren?

by Anonymousreply 5December 15, 2022 12:51 AM

It's a beautiful portrait. She should be proud.

What a shock that Boehner had to 'choke back tears'. I mean, he never gets emotional in front of a crowd, and never sheds a tear.

by Anonymousreply 6December 15, 2022 12:56 AM

Boehner can’t get through breakfast without weeping like a menopausal woman.

Jesus Christ I thought we were done with that cry baby a******.

by Anonymousreply 9December 15, 2022 1:15 AM

This story made me tear up!

I never thought I'd say this, but I kinda miss Boehner. At least he tried to be a civilized human being.

And the likeness in Nancy's portrait is spot-on. She looks great.

It's the end of an era, ladies and gentlemen. So fasten your seatbelts -- it's going to be a bumpy next two years.

by Anonymousreply 10December 15, 2022 2:00 AM

The first thing I remember when I hear about John Boehner is his constant crying. Good grief. He needs therapy.

by Anonymousreply 11December 15, 2022 2:50 AM

I always had a soft spot for Boehner, the sentimental old over-tanned Merlot drunk.

by Anonymousreply 12December 15, 2022 2:54 AM

It’s a nice portrait, but Pelosi deserves a triptych: this portrait, the image of her tearing up Trump’s speech, and the image attached below, which I think will come to be viewed as one if the defining images of the Trump years.

R26 I resent my own nostalgia at this.

"Game recognizes game." As the young people born after 1970 say.

by Anonymousreply 14December 15, 2022 2:59 AM

John Boehner has no grounds for positioning himself as the "game" that "recognizes game." I wonder why he was the one to preside over the unveiling.

I will give him, though, that he looks exactly the same to me as when he left office. Perhaps that perma-tanned hide is too tough to wrinkle?

by Anonymousreply 15December 15, 2022 3:53 AM

I will always be grateful to her for so bravely standing up against Trump, when so many others were afraid of him.

by Anonymousreply 16December 15, 2022 3:56 AM

She's paid a steep price for that.

I loved Boehner and Obama in that send-off. Very well done.

by Anonymousreply 19December 15, 2022 8:39 AM

Nancy’s portrait and hair is from when she became speaker in 2007. Agree love her current chic look.

After her husband’s attack, Nancy seems to have aged a bit. The family all said at the hospital that they were “DONE” with it and now she is too.

by Anonymousreply 20December 15, 2022 8:44 AM

[quote]My gawd, I cannot believe how misty I feel listening to Boehner.

Me too! I remember being so angry with him & now he seems like your favorite drunk uncle, stubborn, annoying but mostly well-meaning with a sentimental heart. He & even the odious Paul Ryan seem like sweethearts compared to the current crop of loons.

by Anonymousreply 21December 15, 2022 10:30 AM

They're why we have the current crop of loons. They planted the seeds, fertilized the soil, watered them, tended to them. This is their doing. Don't get all misty about it.

by Anonymousreply 22December 15, 2022 10:47 AM

The portrait is very nice.

by Anonymousreply 23December 15, 2022 2:54 PM

I cannot believe what this woman has gone through. Every single powerful woman leader in the US is fucking savaged. I would kill to know how Nancy really feels right now. Was it worth it? Does she have any regrets? Does she feel like she accomplished the mission? Does she feel that she was able to leave our country and party better off than before she served? What does she see as our most immediate challenge? Will she do any advocacy on specific issues in her retirement? Is there any bitterness or pain from all of it?

We will never see anyone like her again because she fit a particular point in time. I am excited that she chose Hakeem, I think he is tough as fuck and might be able to fight in ways that she could not because she’s a woman.

by Anonymousreply 24December 15, 2022 3:35 PM

[quote]Will she do any advocacy on specific issues in her retirement?

Retirement, r24?

by Anonymousreply 25December 15, 2022 3:39 PM

R24. Well said.

The family isn't talking about Paul Pelosi because he's suffered a traumatic brain injury. He's not the same man he was before the attack. There must be a lot of reflection going on all around in that family.

by Anonymousreply 26December 15, 2022 3:40 PM

I mean future-tense once she’s out.

by Anonymousreply 27December 15, 2022 3:42 PM

This has been her life's work, r27, I don't see her ever retiring-retiring unless it's for health issues.

Miss Nancy, you go gurrrl!

by Anonymousreply 29December 15, 2022 4:37 PM

Paul Pelosi was hot in his younger days.

Wonder if he ever cheated on her when she was in DC and he in SF?

by Anonymousreply 30December 15, 2022 8:09 PM

Nancy Pelosi is a fucking Italian Queen.

Lawrence is talking to Alexandra about her documentary and they're showing clips. Amazing.

by Anonymousreply 32December 16, 2022 2:31 AM

She is a person to be admired.

by Anonymousreply 33December 16, 2022 2:56 AM

Then he talked to Katie Porter. Love her...and her mom hair. Anyway, yes, Nancy is an amazing woman and will go down in history as one of the true greats.

by Anonymousreply 34December 16, 2022 3:02 AM

I'll never forget worrying one day if I was going to be paid during lockdown, if I would be able to meet the rent, then turned on Corden that night and there she was eating expensive ice cream from her double freezer. Later she wanted to give us a whole 600 bucks - but only some of us. God bless her.

by Anonymousreply 35December 16, 2022 3:12 AM

Awwww, poor r35, you're a regular Darfur Orphan.

by Anonymousreply 36December 16, 2022 3:18 AM

N36 What a stupid reply. Guess you didn't know how many Americans were scared and suffering, but I'm not surprised, you seem like a moron.

by Anonymousreply 37December 16, 2022 3:21 AM

N36 has been in my Ignore file for AGES and will remain there. I'm sure she/he said something incredibly stupid, as usual.

by Anonymousreply 38December 16, 2022 3:25 AM

Nancy earned her lifestyle, r37, and the American people have had their lives improved through her stewardship. I think people who get bent out of shape over Nancy Pelosi eating expensive ice cream shouldn't be calling other people morons.

by Anonymousreply 39December 16, 2022 3:32 AM

She put her career ahead of her marriage.

by Anonymousreply 40December 16, 2022 12:20 PM

What’s N36?

by Anonymousreply 41December 16, 2022 12:30 PM

Bingo!

by Anonymousreply 42December 16, 2022 12:30 PM

That's why it's been such an unsuccessful marriage, r40.

by Anonymousreply 43December 16, 2022 2:26 PM

I'm glad to see Nancy getting to take her victory lap before she retires. I'll admit, there are many times I thought she should step aside and let someone younger take over, but there is no doubt that her steady, clear headed leadership got this country through some dark times.

by Anonymousreply 44December 16, 2022 2:29 PM

Nancy & Paul fucked like rabbits in the beginning of their marriage- 5 kids.

I’d be scared to cheat on her, but you never know if he stepped out during her DC nights.

by Anonymousreply 45December 16, 2022 2:56 PM

Acually we do know but the media wants you to think it was something else.

by Anonymousreply 46December 16, 2022 4:55 PM

You seem like a moron r37/r46

by Anonymousreply 47December 16, 2022 5:02 PM

Nancy Piglosi

by Anonymousreply 48December 16, 2022 5:03 PM

Yes, I’m SURE Paul is out chasing tail — in his 80’s. GTFOH.

by Anonymousreply 49December 16, 2022 6:38 PM

Um… Paul got a DUI recently, so don’t rule out him chasing some SF Tail.
