The 1957 film version of Grace Metalious' "Peyton Place" premiered 65 years ago. A cast of fine veteran actors and young stars are led by Lana Turner in one of her several film comebacks as Constance MacKenzie. The New England tale of small town scandal was matched by Lana's own Hollywood scandal the following spring!
Performances Make "Peyton Place" Worth a Visit

Of course, the reporter is too sloppy to get Farrow’s role right.

No pix of that dreamy David Nelson? 🥰
Many of the exterior shots were filmed in and around the very picturesque town of Camden, Maine(if you've ever seen a calendar of quaint New England towns and environs, you've undoubtedly seen Camden[which we were told was founded by people from Philadelphia. Philly just can't seem to get away from Camden 😉 ]) My husband and I used to vacation nearby, and many of the old-timers would talk about all the hubbub when the film crews were about. The film premiered there, in the local theater, which eventually became an "antique mall."

I also very much enjoyed the TV series -first three seasons . Some great acting and a great cast . You can understand Ryan O’Neal ‘s appeal seeing him then.

I loved the actor who played opposite Lana in Peyton Place ...Lee Phillips, I think his name was. Really hot, in a clean-cut young daddy kind of way. I finally saw him shirtless in an old Perry Mason episode ...jerked off immediately!
I still remember all those Peyton Place TV performers: Dorothy Malone, Mia Farrow, Leigh Taylor Young, Ed Nelson, Christopher "something"., Ryan O'Neal, but especially Barbara Parkins, who between PP and VOTD seem poised for stardom, but then just disappeared.

Lee Philips has a mouse voice.....it's very distracting.
However if you are fan and you haven't already seen it, check out The Hunters made in 1958. He is very good in that one......as a bonus we get Robert Wagner and his pancake ass.

The novel was edgy for the mid-'50s but pure camp today. John Waters stole from it for the scene in [italic]Desperate Living[/italic] where Queen Carlotta tells her minion/sex slave, "The V of my crotch is what needs the attention!"

The movie is pretty classy, even though it was based on a cheesy potboiler. There was a nice sense of the period, and the music is gorgeous. Diane Varsi, Betty Field and Lloyd Nolan were particularly good.

Love this film, and one of my covid lockdown entertainments was watching the entire TV series on You Tube
