I remember the Golden Grain macaroni and cheese. It was just a Kraft knockoff. I haven’t seen it around in years.

The jingle was catchy but as a person living in SF at the time I never got the connection and had never heard of it before its commercial debut.

So I googled, and lo and behold there is a long weird explanation about its connection to SF. Who knew? I liked it OK and my mother served it once in a while.

That’s a neat story about Rice-a-Roni’s origin. Honestly I thought it was “The San Francisco Treat” in a racist way, like “look at all those rice-eating Chinese people in San Francisco.” The real story is actually very cool
