Sad!

Will that annoying and rude Brit be hosting again?

You know, the guy no one likes.

by Anonymousreply 1December 12, 2022 12:49 PM

Prince Harry?

by Anonymousreply 2December 12, 2022 12:54 PM

R2 <---------- OBSESSED with Harry and Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 3December 12, 2022 12:55 PM

Largely boring list, no real surprises. Why do we need this awards ceremony again?

by Anonymousreply 4December 12, 2022 1:09 PM

Same people get nominations year after year. No surprises.

by Anonymousreply 5December 12, 2022 1:11 PM

Oh Christ, not another hammy song by Lady Fuckface!

by Anonymousreply 6December 12, 2022 1:17 PM

Seems like they were trying to go populist with Top Gun, Avatar 2, and Elvis all nominated in picture as well as the Yellowstone nods.

by Anonymousreply 7December 12, 2022 1:19 PM

Best Non-English language film. How very woke of you HFPA.

by Anonymousreply 8December 12, 2022 1:20 PM

So I guess the Globes are uncancelled now that the HFPA has hired black members and I guess all nominated people will have to attend now that a multiple box checker is hosting.

by Anonymousreply 9December 12, 2022 1:22 PM

Mayan Lopez is a fugster who lucked with having a daddy in the business.

by Anonymousreply 10December 12, 2022 1:26 PM

It was always going to come back. Why would Hollywood get rid of a vehicle to promote their product? Why would they deny themselves an opportunity to campaign for the Oscars?

Save Brendan Fraser, every single nominee is going to show up.

by Anonymousreply 11December 12, 2022 1:31 PM

Who Ana de Armas fuck for her nomination?

by Anonymousreply 12December 12, 2022 1:33 PM

Ana de Armas still seems like she'll be the next entry on the "was expected to be a star" list.

by Anonymousreply 13December 12, 2022 1:39 PM

No Till?

by Anonymousreply 14December 12, 2022 1:40 PM

Good Lord, Hilary Swank. Laura Linney, Olivia Colman all got nominated?

by Anonymousreply 15December 12, 2022 1:44 PM

Jenna Ortega's nomination is fucking joke. The midget can't act for shit.

by Anonymousreply 16December 12, 2022 1:44 PM

Ahem, r5. Not all "the same people."

by Anonymousreply 17December 12, 2022 1:44 PM

Nothing for Terrifiers 2? Outrageous snub.

by Anonymousreply 18December 12, 2022 1:45 PM

Who in the HFPA loves Adam Driver? He is painful to look at.

by Anonymousreply 19December 12, 2022 1:46 PM

They added more people to the HFPA, but these are still as bad as ever.

R16 She’s at least better than Selena Gomez in that category.

by Anonymousreply 20December 12, 2022 1:47 PM

Rooting for Bill Hader and Barry. Surprised NoHo Hank didn’t get a nomination for supporting. He was great,

by Anonymousreply 21December 12, 2022 1:58 PM

The celebs, studios and publicist boycotting were all for show because they need GG just as much as GG needs them.

by Anonymousreply 22December 12, 2022 2:04 PM

I guess Whoopie is not going to be too happy on 'The View' today, with "Till" (which took her 11 years to make) was shut out at the Golden Globes. Personally, I'm surprised it didn't get best director, best film, and best actress in a leading role.

by Anonymousreply 23December 12, 2022 2:18 PM

Isn’t Emma D’Arcy one of those “they/them” people? Are they upset with being in the Actress category?

by Anonymousreply 24December 12, 2022 2:32 PM

No love for TimoTay not even at the Globes. He was supposed to be the movie star of his generation.

by Anonymousreply 25December 12, 2022 2:42 PM

WHen I saw Viola Davis nominated for the Woman King I laughed out loud. I took my nieces to see it and what an great example of miscasting! She looked ridiculous! Way too old. ANd John Boyega was terrible. There was some good actors in the movie, African actors. Very good ones. And it was a pretty good story, but...no.

I'm tired of Michelle Williams. I don't like her. Never did. She will always be Alma Del Mar to me. I'm thinking Olivia Coleman and Cate Blanchett be competitive. Surprised Jessica Chastain didn't get a nomination.

I have tried to watch Only Murders. I have. But I just cannot get into it and it definitely didn't deserve any nominations.

by Anonymousreply 26December 12, 2022 2:46 PM

R26: Chastain did get a nomination albeit undeserved in my view for George & Tammy.

by Anonymousreply 27December 12, 2022 3:00 PM

Viola Davis is overrated as fuck. If she had been snubbed for The Woman King, she would have bitched about critics or people not liking her performance like she did when The First Lady miniseries was a flop. That was another major Viola Davis miscasting. I think she will be secretly pissed at The Golden Globes when they do the bes actress in a limited series category because Lily James did a terrific performance of Pamela Anderson which critics liked, but Viola's portrayal of Michelle Obama was widely panned. Viola produced that miniseries in hopes that it would get award nominations and critics would kiss her feet. It didn't work at all she has zero ability to play the warmth of Michelle Obama. I wouldn't put it past Viola to make the same mistake in the future with her producing/developing a project about a real life woman and casting herself and the result is terrible. Viola is very arrogant woman.

by Anonymousreply 28December 12, 2022 3:07 PM

^^ Oops I meant to type "best actress".

by Anonymousreply 29December 12, 2022 3:12 PM

Won't be watching.

by Anonymousreply 30December 12, 2022 3:12 PM

Whoopi won’t care about the Golden Globe snub.

The Oscar loss will Chap her ass though

by Anonymousreply 31December 12, 2022 3:17 PM

I wonder if Taraji P. Henson's Mame Till project will ever get produced.

by Anonymousreply 32December 12, 2022 3:21 PM

R30: Nobody will.

by Anonymousreply 33December 12, 2022 3:29 PM

R7 stupid comment. Avatar is one of the best reviewed films of the year, and the first one received many nominations. Yellowstone was nominated at the Emmys also.

by Anonymousreply 34December 12, 2022 3:43 PM

Please let Imelda Staunton win tv drama actress and get revenge on Swank for robbing her at the Oscars!

by Anonymousreply 35December 12, 2022 3:45 PM

Viola Davis was cast because she’s a big name. But she wasn’t who they wanted. They wanted Lupita, who was cast and then she dropped out.

by Anonymousreply 36December 12, 2022 3:45 PM

Zendaya better get that Globe 😊

by Anonymousreply 37December 12, 2022 3:45 PM

Till is torture porn.

by Anonymousreply 38December 12, 2022 4:09 PM

R38 we’re sick of lectured and educated 24/7, it’s over. The moment has passed.

by Anonymousreply 39December 12, 2022 4:49 PM

So predictable. Like clockwork.

R40 the oppressed never get mad about being snubbed in the highway-road construction industry. Oh yeah they only want the jobs with all the glory.

by Anonymousreply 41December 12, 2022 5:46 PM

The racist has shown up at r9

The sexist has shown up at r41

Go away, Log Cabinettes. Your fellow Republicans can't stand you, most of them voted against gay marriage

by Anonymousreply 42December 12, 2022 5:55 PM

R39 probably lectures people about how oppressed white men are. Republicans are hilarious

by Anonymousreply 43December 12, 2022 5:56 PM

R28 probably thinks Margot Robbie and Ana de Armas are acting geniuses

Viola is awesome, the Klan Grannies here only hate her because she's black

by Anonymousreply 44December 12, 2022 5:57 PM

R22, no one "needs" the Golden Globes. Are you in the Hollywood Foreign Press?

by Anonymousreply 45December 12, 2022 5:58 PM

R42 go fuck your Dad. It probably wouldn’t be the first time.

by Anonymousreply 46December 12, 2022 6:09 PM

A nice watch goes a long way.

by Anonymousreply 47December 12, 2022 6:34 PM

Wow I read that as "The Golden Girls" and got excited. I should add that to the list of "Signs you've been on DL too long"!

So Ana De Armas took the slot of Danielle Deadwyler? Surprising as "Till" is at 98% on RT.

by Anonymousreply 48December 12, 2022 6:57 PM

Also surprising because Deadwyler is an infinitely better actress than De Armas.

by Anonymousreply 49December 12, 2022 7:12 PM

Ana De Armas will go to the shitter in a year or two.

by Anonymousreply 50December 12, 2022 8:19 PM

I love the GGs. So low-rent, so loose with liquor, irreverent hosts, cronyism and corruption, etc. What's not to adore?

by Anonymousreply 51December 12, 2022 8:34 PM

Gold Derby's list. I agree with them about Deadwyler and the Yellowstone and Kelly Reilly snubs. The rest is meh. They listed Will Smith as snub lol.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 52December 12, 2022 8:35 PM

Jennifer Lawrence got snubbed too. She's done in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 53December 12, 2022 8:38 PM

I watched Causeway when it came out and I found to be quite average.

by Anonymousreply 54December 12, 2022 8:42 PM

R54: I heard she basically just rehashed her Winter's Bone performance.

by Anonymousreply 55December 12, 2022 8:46 PM

Rejoice! Will Smith was snubbed!

by Anonymousreply 56December 12, 2022 9:06 PM

Jada is probably having meltdowns right now.

by Anonymousreply 57December 12, 2022 9:12 PM

R56 My husband thinks Smith will be nominated for an Oscar. I’m gonna be laughing my ass of nomination morning when he’s snubbed off that list, and will send hubby a big fat text with lmao emojis.

by Anonymousreply 58December 12, 2022 9:23 PM

I wish they could give Chris Rock the Oscar this year, just 'cause.

by Anonymousreply 59December 12, 2022 9:33 PM

Forgot about JLaw! She was their darling for a time, they even rewarded her performance as the miracle mop lady over Maggie Smith in Lady In The Can and Lily Tomlin in Grandma

I do feel bad Deadwyler didn't make it in

by Anonymousreply 60December 12, 2022 9:36 PM

JLaw will never be a thing with her pimp...I mean benefactor Weinstein out of the picture. Nobody cares about her anymore.

by Anonymousreply 61December 12, 2022 11:14 PM

R58 I thought he wasn't allowed to be nominated for 10 years?

by Anonymousreply 62December 12, 2022 11:14 PM

R49 Even if that's true, no one knows or cares about her to confirm if that's true or not. Ana de Armas has been part of several high-profile movies between the Bond series, Knives Out, and now Blonde. Deadwyler who? Then again, I'd rather have her nominated than overrated Viola.

by Anonymousreply 63December 12, 2022 11:15 PM

R62 God you’re slow.

He can be nominated. He can’t attend

by Anonymousreply 64December 12, 2022 11:15 PM

R36 I have so much respect for Lupita for not partaking in a project that whitewashed history. She didn't approve of the false narrative that it was whites selling the black slaves as presented in the movie. Viola clearly didn't mind hiding the truth that it was fellow blacks who sold the slaves because her audience would never accept the truth based on the platform and image she's built for herself.

by Anonymousreply 65December 12, 2022 11:16 PM

R64 What a joke. I thought the 10 year ban was bad enough, only a slap on the wrist when he really deserved a lifetime ban. Anyway he's never going to be nominated anyway for this.

by Anonymousreply 66December 12, 2022 11:17 PM

WHAT ABOUT THE WHALE?????

I WAS MOLESTED!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 67December 12, 2022 11:28 PM

As expected, 'The View' didn't mention the GG nominations at all today - probably the first time in the show's 26 years. Whenever nominations for a major awards show are announced, the hosts always talk about it and which nominees were surprises, and which were snubbed. They steered clear away from that conversation this morning.

by Anonymousreply 68December 12, 2022 11:37 PM

R68 Whoopi is clearly irate.

by Anonymousreply 69December 12, 2022 11:38 PM

In a way I can't blame Whoopi. I do wonder if Deadwyler can manage to get a surprise Oscar nod.

by Anonymousreply 70December 13, 2022 12:50 AM

My guess is only B listers will attend.

They blew it by not nominating Tom. Cruise and Julia Roberts. The last big movie stars.

Yes, they threw Julia a bone for her TV project that no one watched, but J doubt she will attend. Only greedy people will attend.

by Anonymousreply 71December 13, 2022 1:06 AM

They’re probably still pissed at Cruise for returning his Globes when the controversy happened. And unlike Brendan Fraser, the Globes could snub him out of spite with at least some plausible denial

by Anonymousreply 72December 13, 2022 1:10 AM

*deniability.

by Anonymousreply 73December 13, 2022 1:11 AM

R71, we're all nominated.

Perhaps the Globes have had sufficient for A listers?

by Anonymousreply 74December 13, 2022 1:13 AM

So transparent, r71.

by Anonymousreply 75December 13, 2022 1:15 AM

[...]

by Anonymousreply 76December 13, 2022 1:16 AM

Most of the nominations look okay to me especially in television. If those 5 dramatic movies were nominated for the Oscars, more people might watch the shows. I think nominating Tom Cruise would have been weird. I hope some big names attend the show because it used to be fun.

by Anonymousreply 77December 13, 2022 1:17 AM

R66 probably defends Roman Polanski and Kevin Spacey.

by Anonymousreply 78December 13, 2022 1:17 AM

Congratulations to the Golden Globe nominators for not doing what every other awards shows have done : succumbing to the demands of the woke!

by Anonymousreply 79December 13, 2022 1:18 AM

..the Oscar show.

Unfortunately between woke/cancel culture and the dearth of real stars, award shows are DOA.

by Anonymousreply 80December 13, 2022 1:19 AM

R65 is a conservative who wants to pretend white people had nothing to do with slavery. Gets his "facts" from Fox News

by Anonymousreply 81December 13, 2022 1:20 AM

R79 and r80 got lost on the way to Stormfront. "Woke" is the pejorative they use for smart, highly educated liberals who have empathy for others.

They love conservatives, who just voted against gay marriage 🤣

by Anonymousreply 82December 13, 2022 1:22 AM

Evan Peters and Niecy Nash for Dahmer

by Anonymousreply 83December 13, 2022 1:22 AM

R65, Arabs sold Africans as slaves, also.

But you know what? The buyers were White.

by Anonymousreply 84December 13, 2022 1:22 AM

Don’t the Globes still pay the same corrupt members and just added some random diversity? They are a joke.

by Anonymousreply 85December 13, 2022 1:25 AM

I think Tom Cruise has been under-rated, but isn't he just playing a no-challenge role in "Top Gun: Maverick," though it might be a Best Movie (I haven't yet watched)?

by Anonymousreply 86December 13, 2022 1:27 AM

The fact tht they were a joke made them fun. But fun is as DOA as award shows.

by Anonymousreply 87December 13, 2022 1:28 AM

Feel the desperation

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 88December 13, 2022 1:28 AM

"Till" is like Mel Gibson doing a "Passion of the Christ"-style PR tour after talking to Steven Spielberg about how to "keep the blacks happy with horror and triumph, but put some sex into it."

by Anonymousreply 89December 13, 2022 1:30 AM

Quick. someone tell Rhianna, Angela Bassett and Viola Davis not be excited or honored that they got nominated!

by Anonymousreply 90December 13, 2022 1:30 AM

..Rihanna.. I wonder how the cast of Abbott Elementary will respond.

by Anonymousreply 91December 13, 2022 1:32 AM

As to performances on tv shows, these people should have at least been nominated:

Rhea Seehorn ("Better Call Saul")

Michael Mando ("Better Call Saul")

Kelly Riley ("Yellowstone")

Tony Dalton ("Better Call Saul")

by Anonymousreply 92December 13, 2022 1:47 AM

Viola will go to the opening of an envelope.

by Anonymousreply 93December 13, 2022 1:50 AM

Lol R93.

She's such a thirsty bitch.

I can't stand her!!

by Anonymousreply 94December 13, 2022 1:50 AM

R93 That desperate soul will go anywhere she thinks they will bestow adulation and awards on her. Can't wait to see her reaction when she doesn't win...she's not good enough an actress to hide her feelings just like she couldn't when she got rightfully lambasted by the media for her horrendous performance as Michelle Obama.

by Anonymousreply 95December 13, 2022 4:45 AM

You know, when you're not pretty, but can do things to make yourself red carpet attractive, and then you start getting old, you get very desperate if you're in Hollywood. And Viola came to prominence late in her career and she is way too thirsty for validation. She does not want to get old, does not want the merry go round to stop. Too bad. IMO her best was Ma Rainey.

by Anonymousreply 96December 13, 2022 5:07 AM

Pedestrian, predictable, completely banal choices—why anyone bothers investing their time in these calculated, self-satisfied awards ceremonies is beyond me. These people win based on campaigns and underhanded favors/loads to the face. It's rarely ever purely based on the actor's performance. The whole thing is ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 97December 13, 2022 5:33 AM

R97, essentially: “I analyzed these nominations and judged them to be pedestrian, predictable and banal. Also, if you take any time thinking about these awards, you’re an idiot.”

by Anonymousreply 98December 13, 2022 6:10 AM

Emma D'Arcy was nominated but not Paddy Considine for House of the Dragons?

Congrats to Evan Peters, Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins for Dahmer, well deserved.

Shocked by no nominations for Till or DeadWyler. Did they even bother watching the film?

I like Tom Cruise but I knew Golden Globes wasn't gonna nominate him but they instead nominated the movie.

by Anonymousreply 99December 13, 2022 6:27 AM

R87, Since when were the Golden Globes, always considered a precursor to the Academy Awards, "a joke"? Maybe in your mind.

A host's intro wisecracking, or being slapped, at whatever awards show for whatever medium, doesn't diminish the actual awards.

by Anonymousreply 100December 13, 2022 9:20 AM

Wasn't Tom one of the most prominent critics of the GG controversy? Going so far as to return his three globes?

by Anonymousreply 101December 13, 2022 9:21 AM

Yes r101 . I will give them credit for at least hiring an interesting, offbeat host with Jarrod Carmichael. For the Oscars to go with Jimmy Kimmel is the laziest possible choice.

by Anonymousreply 102December 13, 2022 10:33 AM

I always thought Ellen was one of the best Oscar hosts. I liked Steve Martin too. Kimmel's...OK. Whoopie was very good. I sometimes watch Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's intro on the GG. They were the best.

by Anonymousreply 103December 13, 2022 10:54 AM

Tina and Amy were great hosts that night but have been awful in everything else since.

Whoopi can't physically do it anymore, which is a blessing. I think she'd be awful now.

by Anonymousreply 104December 13, 2022 11:06 AM

Whoopi would never be able to muster up the energy now, she's barely awake during the View.

by Anonymousreply 105December 13, 2022 11:25 AM

A GG win does statistically increase your value as an actor, it does have value. There have been academic studies. I cannot remember if it correlates to an Oscar win, but this might have been conducted with data before the overtly politically correct wins...

by Anonymousreply 106December 13, 2022 11:37 AM

[Quote] Indeed, at least in terms of box-office receipts, the Globes might matter a whole lot for actors — maybe even more than the Oscars do, according to an analysis from data scientist Edmund Helmer for Reuters.

Helmer found that on average, Golden Globe winners receive a bigger boost at the box office than Oscar victors: about $14.2 million per film versus $3 million.

They should go offbeat and hire a fun, quirky host like Elvira, Mistress of the Dark or John Waters or even Chris "Corky" Burke!

by Anonymousreply 109December 13, 2022 11:44 AM

It's a step in the Oscars campaign so that's its value. The merit of the award itself is pretty junky. The show was fun to watch. Not sure if it will continue to be if the stars aren't going to show up or do but will be too image conscious to freewheel it like they used to. Can they let loose when there will inevitably be backlash against the hfpa?

by Anonymousreply 110December 13, 2022 11:47 AM

R106 I imagine it would also help winners gain momentum going into the rest of awards season, especially if they give good and memorable speeches.

by Anonymousreply 111December 13, 2022 11:48 AM

If black celebs like Rihanna and Viola show up to the ceremony it’ll signal everyone can come now.

by Anonymousreply 112December 13, 2022 12:02 PM

‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ should sweep the GGs and Oscars but it probably won’t because “so white”.

by Anonymousreply 113December 13, 2022 12:07 PM

The last two Best Picture winners at the Oscars were pretty darn white.

by Anonymousreply 114December 13, 2022 12:12 PM

R114 Yeah but they also had diversity in front of and behind the camera that ticked off several intersectional boxes.

by Anonymousreply 115December 13, 2022 12:16 PM

Colin has been in front of diverse boxes...

by Anonymousreply 116December 13, 2022 12:29 PM

R116 Good one! 😁

by Anonymousreply 117December 13, 2022 12:59 PM

R97, Really? You predicted Bill Nighy and Jeremy Pope? Jessica Chastain? "Pam and Tommy"?

What and who, pray tell, would have been your unpredictable and non-banal nominees? Enlighten us.

by Anonymousreply 118December 13, 2022 2:46 PM

GG probably appear to increase BO revenue as they happen in the second week of the year, as oppose to The Oscars which are around the 8th week.

by Anonymousreply 119December 13, 2022 8:20 PM

The Golden globe has value and I should know! I’ve won one. Did you know that?

by Anonymousreply 120December 13, 2022 9:41 PM

R120 you should have had a couple of Emmys too Kim

Didn’t Andra Day’s surprise Golden Globe win for The United States vs. Billie Holiday propel her to an Oscar nomination?

by Anonymousreply 122December 14, 2022 12:53 AM

R122 You mean that has-been who Joy Reid claimed should have won everything at the Oscars?

by Anonymousreply 123December 14, 2022 1:00 AM

How many of these losers will show up?

by Anonymousreply 124December 14, 2022 1:01 AM

4/5 nominees per category, one would hope.

by Anonymousreply 125December 14, 2022 1:15 AM

Can someone remind me, was it the fact the HFPA lacked diversity that sank it, or were they given notice they needed to diversify and didn't/refused to? Or did members make inappropriate comments?

Most of Hollywood knew exactly who the association was

by Anonymousreply 132December 14, 2022 9:08 AM

Who was nominated for most likely to get smacked on stage by Will Smith?

by Anonymousreply 133December 14, 2022 10:33 AM

Awards everywhere, for anything,¹ and at every level are the same in one respect:

When one or one's favorite loses or isn't even nominated, the awards are a meaningless joke.

Win, and the awards are a significant milestone.

by Anonymousreply 134December 14, 2022 11:02 AM

That Lady Gaga song is fucking atrocious and bombed. Why are they nominating it for all these awards? And she did some of the score for Top Gun? Ahahahahahahahaha please. She can’t write music. She can barely write decent lyrics without significant help from others.

I always enjoy the GG noms and feel they are usually better than other awards. I feel they nominate some really deserving, but often overlooked, people. Their noms usually closely track the noms of other major awards anyway with some outliers. They’ve been considered serious since the early 90s after being a bit of a joke before.

by Anonymousreply 135December 14, 2022 11:06 AM

Some times they embarrass themselves by nominating shite, examples that come to mind are Angelina and Depp in "The Tourist", also nominated for Best Picture even though it was awful.

Kate Hudson a couple of years ago in a movie that everyone hates and insulted people with disabilities.

They have made some good choices though which arguably helped underdogs make it to an Oscar nomination

by Anonymousreply 136December 14, 2022 11:47 AM

The Critics Choice Awards, which have desperately wanted to replace the Globes as the televised Oscar precursor for years, released their nomination list today. They basically nominated everyone who might be in contention for the Oscars, including ten people for director, so if you really want choices that are truly pedestrian, predictable and completely banal, here you go.

The Globes people are smart in that they don't always pic the same winners as the Oscars and Emmys do.

If you've won those, a GG doesn't much but if you lose at the Oscars and Emmys and win at the GG's, then you're a winner.

by Anonymousreply 138December 14, 2022 3:24 PM

^

pic = pick

by Anonymousreply 139December 14, 2022 3:25 PM

No nominations for Mr. Styles?

by Anonymousreply 140December 14, 2022 3:26 PM

Ana de Armas is vapid, overrated and most likely slept her way to the top

by Anonymousreply 141December 14, 2022 3:28 PM

Yeah the Globes are good for spreading recognition, especially for TV. Emmys and SAG are notorious for either overlooking a great performance or rewarding the same person over and over.

CB DeMille goes to Eddie Murphy

Judy Garland

Michelle Pfeiffer

Glenn Close

Judy Davis

Sigourney Weaver

Annette Benning

Kathleen Turner

Amy Adams

Marsha Mason

All of these actresses have been denied Oscars…but won Golden Globes….so yes, they have value.

by Anonymousreply 144December 14, 2022 8:51 PM

R144, exactly; and the GG's know it.

it is so smart of them to pick people/shows who don't have other awards

Party of Five won Best TV drama at GG's in 96;

ER won best drama at the Emmys and PO5 wasn't even nominated.

by Anonymousreply 145December 14, 2022 9:11 PM

Thank you, r38!

by Anonymousreply 146December 15, 2022 1:46 PM

Yeah, Party of 5, great show.

Also, good on the Golden Globes for nominating grande dame Jessica Alba.

by Anonymousreply 147December 20, 2022 6:59 AM

I actually think Till's lack of awards is a direct, intentional slap at Whoopi Goldberg. She comes across as a total bitch, even to her colleagues on the View.

As a member of the Academy she had a lot to do with this year's all black ceremony, and we all know how that turned out.

by Anonymousreply 148December 20, 2022 10:20 PM

Nah, Till just isn’t very good and only slightly above a Hallmark or Lifetime movie.

by Anonymousreply 149December 20, 2022 11:09 PM

A no name diversity hire host and it's on a Tuesday night. Who did they think is going to watch this?

by Anonymousreply 150January 3, 2023 5:30 PM

A gay black male is hosting, a black guy is receiving the Cecil B. Demille award, and a gay man is receiving the Carol Burnett award. God they're so terrified they'll be taken off the air again.

by Anonymousreply 151January 3, 2023 5:33 PM

I hope "Top Gun: Maverick" wins Best Motion Picutre - Drama just for the hell of it.

by Anonymousreply 152January 3, 2023 6:19 PM

Cruise returned his Golden Globes to HFPA. It won’t.

by Anonymousreply 153January 3, 2023 6:46 PM

R58, Your husband is wrong, and you will laugh. The Slap precludes WS's getting a nomination this year. Besides, nobody saw his movie.

by Anonymousreply 154January 3, 2023 7:13 PM

There is no need for these award ceremonies and the Oscar’s should be a private affair. Enough already. These shows are corny, paid for, and don’t get ratings. It’s an archaic concept.

by Anonymousreply 155January 3, 2023 7:17 PM

I love 'em.

by Anonymousreply 156January 3, 2023 8:09 PM

Speak for yourself, r155. And what do you care, personally, about the ratings/viewership? Watch something else. Read a book. Take a walk.

Hahaha! You'll tune in like the rest of us here!

by Anonymousreply 157January 4, 2023 12:47 PM

Rosie O'Donnell was weird and wonderful in the otherwise mundane series American Gigolo. Rosie has done good supporting work in a couple series.

by Anonymousreply 158January 4, 2023 1:17 PM

Are we sure Viola got Michelle so wrong, now that we've seen Michelle "I couldn't stand him for 10 years" Obama's real face?

by Anonymousreply 159January 4, 2023 1:24 PM

Michelle Obama is single handedly ruining her brand with this recent bullshit. But that's another conversation. Viola was terrible as Michelle. She looked like Eddie Murphy in drag. Viola is a character actress. She needs to accept it.

by Anonymousreply 160January 4, 2023 3:07 PM

[quote]Hahaha! You'll tune in like the rest of us here!

I absolutely will not and neither will the majority of the public.

by Anonymousreply 161January 4, 2023 10:29 PM

[quote]And what do you care, personally, about the ratings/viewership?

It further proves their irrelevancy, stupid cow.

by Anonymousreply 162January 4, 2023 10:30 PM

[quote]They wanted Lupita, who was cast and then she dropped out.

Dropped out my ass. Pretty, but where's the gravitas? She just, well, got replaced. Almost like Beanie vs. Lea.

by Anonymousreply 163January 4, 2023 11:03 PM

No awards are important. Just popularity contests, money, and politics. I know they were always like that but now it’s so blatant.

by Anonymousreply 164January 5, 2023 12:06 AM

R162, That's not "personally," now is it, Dopey who can't bring himself to use DL form?

by Anonymousreply 165January 5, 2023 12:08 AM

R161/r162, NS, Sherlock, that "the majority of the public" won't watch, as that would be a phenomenal 165 million+.

by Anonymousreply 166January 5, 2023 12:14 AM

I'll watch just to see what they're wearing.

by Anonymousreply 167January 5, 2023 1:33 AM

Has anyone seen “The Menu ?”

by Anonymousreply 168January 5, 2023 2:36 AM

Yes, R168. Loved it. Hong Chau and Janet McTeer give my favorite performances.

by Anonymousreply 169January 5, 2023 2:51 PM

See you all after the show!

First, though, is the Red Carpet on E! Channel at 6:00 p.m.! Will anyone rival Timmy in avant-garde?!

Then the Awards on NBC at 8:00 p.m.

Colin is a shoo-in for Best Actor: Comedy or Musical.

Meanwhile, the only actor in serious contention who actually sang in a movie with music by the subject (and others) throughout, is not in that category, but is in Best Actor: Drama with Brandon Fraser.

Will the GG give the Award to BF, in an apologetic gesture even if he's not in attendance? Or will he get the Award as an "FU for not attending, you hypocrite!" gesture?

Or will the newbie Austin receive this major award, setting up a mano a mano with Colin for the Oscar?

by Anonymousreply 170January 10, 2023 9:33 PM

Yeah, Baybee!

Austin Butler---Best Actor: Drama.

Colin Farrell---Best Actor: Musical or Comedy.

Both men gave wonderful, heartfelt acceptance speeches.

Let the Oscar games begin!

by Anonymousreply 171January 11, 2023 2:48 AM

EZ prediction: Farrell will win, and Fraser and Butler are guaranteed nominations

by Anonymousreply 172January 11, 2023 6:24 PM

Critics Choice this Sunday; SAG Awards; BAFTA; AA.

Possible Colin sweep. I hope Austin wins some! But the entire movie "Elvis," its pacing between artistically frenetic and normal; its director's not getting much acclaim for it; its, let's face it, biopic subject---all mitigate against Austin's chances.

Austin is quite as much a charming and cheeky monkey as is Colin, but the latter has already the rep of being a great serious dramatic actor. Austin, not so much!

by Anonymousreply 173January 11, 2023 6:34 PM

Colin has swept nearly all the critics' awards including the NYFCC, National Board of Review and National Society of Film Critics

by Anonymousreply 174January 11, 2023 6:53 PM

What was the Golden Globes big crime that all these writers keep talking about? Lack of diversity among the foreign press? The foreign press is made up of writers, an industry that has never been diverse and is made up of people hailing from countries that are white as a majority. How is this a crime?

by Anonymousreply 175January 11, 2023 7:35 PM

r175 it's ridiculous that there was even a "controversy," but we live in weird times right now.
