Mariska Hargitay has a weird, ugly face. I can't stand her.

I saw Hargitay in a coffee place on the upper west side a few years ago with her hot husband and children. She was unbelievably loud. Like loudly calling over to the husband across the place asking what they wanted her to order. And she was quite large. Tall and hefty. I remember thinking the volume was quite obnoxious (think suburban soccer mom frau), but good for her - she didn’t seem to give a fuck about being recognized or being skinny.

So ripe for mocking -- especially because it episode for which Mariska was nominated for an Emmy.

As much as we make fun of the Oleebia episode, that was back when the show was still enjoyable - ludicrous for sure but fun and watchable.

For me, the episode where the show became completely unwatchable was the one where they find out that one of their forensics team members (Noel Fisher) is the killer they’ve been after all along. It ends with Oleebia planting a big kiss on him as a distraction so she and Stabler can gain the upper hand. They also killed off handsome Mike Doyle in that same episode- though apparently Mariska had nothing to do with that either.

Olivia the character stands for reason and sensibility where there is none. Some of my recent favorite scenes are where a criminal will defy her right to her face. They overreach with her sexuality as an older woman though, it started with when she was handcuffed to that bed years ago and managed to get away without being raped. I and I’’m sure more than a few viewers stopped seeing her as a vixen long ago.

The “believable factor” of some of the situations has fallen off track with the series, and there’s a cleverness of writing missing from the old shows. They also lean too hard into political stance and some of the shows have had ended with a wisp of hopelessness to them.

As a long term viewer here's how it will go down, in my opinion:

Benson will take Noah up to Westchester a couple more times. He will grow closer to that family. Benson will be uneasy and try to stop the visits but Noah insists. At some point that family suggests that Noah come live with them permanently, but Liv balks at the idea. That family files a motion in family court to get custody of Noah.

Benson fights it tooth and nail but finally has a Kramer Vs. Kramer moment of clarity where she realizes Noah is better off with that family. She gives him up.

A dejected Liv hits the the bottle, but lightly -- having only 2 drinks. Everyone has abandoned her. Then Stabler sits down next to her at the bar unexpectedly. And the love affair that shippers and fan fic writers have been waiting years for begins.

I swear, when I watched this show during the early 00s, it wasn't this ridiculous. It sounds HILARIOUS now (which is an odd thing to happen to a show about sexual violence!). I guess it's going to happen when a show is on their air as long as this one has been.

An aside, like Noah, I once met my half-sister I never knew existed. She was nine years older than me, couldn’t look any more like my father and still be a woman, and had this over the top, “exuberance” about my dad who had been dead for 20 years. When we met though, there was no click. She wanted to know more about my father than me, and had serious luggage I wasn’t willing to unpack for he or deal with at the time.

She pressed me to take a DNA test and I refused, and the relationship went chilly.

She must have had a whore of a mother because she then said she met her REAL father and moved on to her next mark.
