Worst sitcom family?

I hated the Married with Children family. Yeah they're supposed to be tacky, but that whole show was unfunny to me.

I used to love the Huxtables, but of course that's all ruined now.

by Anonymousreply 62December 14, 2022 1:13 PM

You and I are probably the only people on DL who disliked "Married With Children," OP.

by Anonymousreply 1December 12, 2022 3:48 AM

I'd trade them all for the Golden Girls, easily.

by Anonymousreply 2December 12, 2022 3:49 AM

I felt the same way OP. I will get called a melodramatic pansy but I was actually revolted by the characters.

by Anonymousreply 3December 12, 2022 3:52 AM

Everybody didn't love Raymond and his annoying family.

by Anonymousreply 4December 12, 2022 3:53 AM

That's funny. The Bundys were more realistic than The Huxtables. The Huxtables were that stuckup family that nobody in the neighborhood liked.

by Anonymousreply 5December 12, 2022 3:54 AM

Worse sitcom family is The Tanners from Full House. Danny was a neat freak. DJ was a whiny brat. Michelle was spoiled and annoying. Only likable one was Stephanie but she barely appeared.

by Anonymousreply 6December 12, 2022 3:57 AM

Bill Cosby and his wife were a totally sexless couple and seemed more like the kids' grandparents. The house seemed designed by Grandma Moses and though he was some sort of doctor or pediatrician he acted like a complete idiot and when Cosby made those 'comic' faces I wanted to punch it

by Anonymousreply 7December 12, 2022 3:58 AM

The Cosby Show was awful and so were the Huxtables. It was a huge flop in reruns - Family Matters was more successful.

by Anonymousreply 8December 12, 2022 4:00 AM

The griffin family from family guy.

by Anonymousreply 9December 12, 2022 4:00 AM

Roseann might've turned out a Trumper, but the Conners are still my favorites. That show had naturally heartwarming moments, not over-sweet like Full House.

by Anonymousreply 10December 12, 2022 4:01 AM

R10 I don't like what roseanne became but I will always appreciate that they represented a struggling working class family. You really don't see that anymore on tv.

by Anonymousreply 11December 12, 2022 4:04 AM

I hated the Bundys, too. The way the characters were written, they seemed to really hate each other and I thought- if you don't want to spend time together, then why do I want to spend time with you? It was a massive turnoff.

by Anonymousreply 12December 12, 2022 4:04 AM

[quote]The Bundys were more realistic than The Huxtables.

Neither were realistic. No sitcom family is realistic. Even if they start out realistic in the beginning, it doesn't take long before a show starts to rely on ridiculous storylines, stupid behavior, controversy and melodrama just to get attention and ratings.

by Anonymousreply 13December 12, 2022 4:07 AM

The Tanners were annoying. I thought Danny was hot but didn’t care for the rest of them.

by Anonymousreply 14December 12, 2022 4:08 AM

The Bundys are how the DL imagines straight married life. Of course we think the most miserable are the most realistic.

by Anonymousreply 15December 12, 2022 4:09 AM

Like R4, I hated the Raymond family. That whole stupid show-annoying parents and brother, shrewish wife, and contrived situations--I never got the appeal or why it went on so long.

by Anonymousreply 16December 12, 2022 4:11 AM

My favorite were the Winslow family from Family Matters. They seemed so warm and loving.

by Anonymousreply 17December 12, 2022 4:16 AM

Anyone who dislikes “Married with Children” is suspicious and not someone I wanna hang out with.

by Anonymousreply 18December 12, 2022 4:18 AM

R15, it was satire and a big middle finger to the Reagan family values 1980s. It was originally titled “Not the Cosbys”.

by Anonymousreply 19December 12, 2022 4:18 AM

R16 I think for East Coasters, it was relatable. Many Italian and Jewish families in the suburbs could relate.

R13 The Bundys felt more like the families I knew than the Huxtables even if exaggerated. Cliff and Clare barely fought and their kids got into tame hijinks and their siblings fights were tame too. Most families have two kids also. Sitcoms love having three to five kids. Al not wanting more kids is realistic, many couples do regret having kids even if they don't say it.

by Anonymousreply 20December 12, 2022 4:20 AM

R18- The Cosby Show was about an upper middle class black family living in Brooklyn. It definitely presented urban blacks in a very positive light but the show was NEVER funny.

What's Happening!! now that was a funny show.

Rerun: Hey Shirley , What's the scoop?

Shirley: Scoop is YOU'RE FAT!

by Anonymousreply 21December 12, 2022 4:20 AM

I would've liked Raymond more if Ray didn't always get his way. Never got how such a manchild whiner was supposed to be the darling of the family.

by Anonymousreply 22December 12, 2022 4:22 AM

The Bradys. They can't even acknowledge their dead parents?

by Anonymousreply 23December 12, 2022 4:22 AM

The Tanners on Full House, featuring homophobe Candace Cameron Bure

by Anonymousreply 24December 12, 2022 4:22 AM

Why hasn't Shirley Hemphill achieved DL stardom R21?

by Anonymousreply 25December 12, 2022 4:24 AM

R21 Yes The Cosby Show was very important historically and was filled with urban black culture and arts. It's a good show to watch for black education and the fashion. Beautiful cast members and all. But it's not really funny and the family didn't act natural. It was too sanctimonious and respectable. The Bernie Mac Show, Fresh Prince, Family Matters and The Parent Hood showed more realistic middle to upper class black families.

by Anonymousreply 26December 12, 2022 4:27 AM

R22 Ray was annoying yes. Worse than Marie as she was at least funny. Robert and Debra were more sympathetic than Ray. Debra while irritating usually had good points. In real life, they would have gotten divorced.

by Anonymousreply 27December 12, 2022 4:31 AM

The Lubbock family from Just the Ten of Us.

by Anonymousreply 28December 12, 2022 4:36 AM

The Andersons — most neurotic crybaby kids ever!

by Anonymousreply 29December 12, 2022 4:36 AM

I appreciate that Morticia and Gomez Addams still act like they had a good sex life.

by Anonymousreply 30December 12, 2022 4:38 AM

My Three Sons. The dad was boring and seemed checked out. All three of the sons were boring. Uncle Charlie was a cunt. Dodie was annoying. Even their house was bland and boring. It needed renovations.

by Anonymousreply 31December 12, 2022 4:47 AM

The Gellars on Friends.

by Anonymousreply 32December 12, 2022 4:50 AM

Any of Dan Schneider's sitcom families like in Kenan and Kel, Drake & Josh, iCarly and Victorious. Seriously abusive and neglectful parents and psychotic siblings. Not even done in a humorous or lighthearted way, just mean-spirited.

by Anonymousreply 33December 12, 2022 4:54 AM

Everybody Loves Raymond.

I fucking loathe Patricia Fucking Heaton and Ray Fucking Romano is the worst comedian, like Sklar Brothers level suckness.

by Anonymousreply 34December 12, 2022 4:58 AM

EVERYBODY on Modern Fucking Family. Except for Veragara. I like her.

by Anonymousreply 35December 12, 2022 5:00 AM

Any other youngish millenials remember Lizzie McGuire? One of the only kid-oriented sitcoms where the parents were realistic and not totally moronic or inept.

by Anonymousreply 36December 12, 2022 5:01 AM

Loved the Bundys. I grew up on the lower end of middle class in the Chicago area, they reminded me so much of people I knew. Peg had shades of my mother.

by Anonymousreply 37December 12, 2022 5:01 AM

[quote]The Bundys are how the DL imagines straight married life

We don’t have to imagine it, dipshit R15. The majority of us grew up in a straight, married household.

The number of levels of stupidity in your post is too high to count.

by Anonymousreply 38December 12, 2022 5:03 AM

R37 I'm black and the Bundys and Connors felt more like my family. Not to say Huxtable types didn't exist but they had an air of superiority and lack of humor that wasn't welcoming.

by Anonymousreply 39December 12, 2022 5:04 AM

Married with Children was funny Seasons 2-4, and it ran for like 11 seasons, which means it mostly sucked. Once they introduced Seven, it really went to hell. Even when they got rid of him, it never got back on track and I just stopped watching regularly altogether.

by Anonymousreply 40December 12, 2022 5:12 AM

R40 I agree though I liked Jefferson more than Steve. The writers kept amping up the cartoonishness. Bud got very attractive in later seasons since David Faustino started working out, so they couldn't keep having him be a dateless loser. I think Christina asked the writers to make Kelly more an idiot savant hence all the secret talents. Marcy's evolution into insanity though was hilarious, she truly was as bigoted as Al and a true misandrist Republicunt. Peg was the most static character in TV history, she remained as useless as she started to be in season two.

by Anonymousreply 41December 12, 2022 5:18 AM

My mind reels at the genetic pools necessary to pull off the broods from ‘The Partridge Family’ and ‘Eight is Enough’.

by Anonymousreply 42December 12, 2022 5:20 AM

[quote]Family Matters was more successful.

"Did I do that?"

Most 80s sitcoms don't do well. The Cosby Show, Who's The Boss, Silver Spoons, ALF and Growing Pains have faded away. Yet Married with Children, The Golden Girls, Roseanne and Cheers are still known because they were different.

by Anonymousreply 44December 12, 2022 5:54 AM

Married With Children became completely unwatchable the year they introduced Seven.

by Anonymousreply 45December 12, 2022 1:06 PM

Roseanne became completely unwatchable when she decided she was The Voice Of All Women and every episode became so Profound and MEANINGFUL.

by Anonymousreply 46December 12, 2022 1:08 PM

I hated the Small Wonder family. A lot of the others jumped the shark whenever they tried adding in some "cute" new kid who was anything but (Cousin Oliver, that horrible ginger Sam on Diff'rent Strokes).

by Anonymousreply 47December 12, 2022 1:27 PM

The Bill Engvall Show had an annoying cliched family with Jennifer Lawrence as the whiny daughter. She's talented but I'm shocked she didn't fade after schlock like that.

by Anonymousreply 48December 12, 2022 1:35 PM

The Borgias were awful.

by Anonymousreply 49December 12, 2022 1:36 PM

Also Reba's family could be irritating especially her daughters. I watched mainly for Reba and Barbra Jean going at it and Steve Howey was cute.

by Anonymousreply 50December 12, 2022 1:37 PM

I have very mixed feelings about the Reagans on Blue Bloods. They really act like they are superior to normal people.

by Anonymousreply 51December 12, 2022 1:42 PM

The Step by Step family. They combined two of the worst, most cheesy shows (Brady Bunch AND Full House) and made something 10 times as bad. Each character is nothing but a personality type: nerd, tom boy, bimbo, jock.

by Anonymousreply 52December 12, 2022 1:45 PM

The Everybody Loves Raymond family is awful. Patricia Heaton, yuck. That horrible old lady. I only liked Peter Boyle but even he was one-note and predictable after season 47896

by Anonymousreply 53December 12, 2022 1:48 PM

Raymond - pussy

by Anonymousreply 54December 12, 2022 1:55 PM

R52 The gorgeous Sasha Mitchell and DILF Patrick Duffy was the only reason any gay watched that corny show. It helped they had more comedic talent than anyone else on that show. Cute and funny Jason Marsden added to it as well. Most of the cast was dead weight. I don't understand the appeal of big family shows if you can't develop the cast. All the Brady kids were developed and distinctive with some depth

by Anonymousreply 55December 12, 2022 1:59 PM

The Bluths, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 56December 12, 2022 2:04 PM

[quote] Bill Cosby and his wife were a totally sexless couple and seemed more like the kids' grandparents. The house seemed designed by Grandma Moses and though he was some sort of doctor or pediatrician he acted like a complete idiot and when Cosby made those 'comic' faces I wanted to punch it

What I realized watching as an adult was how unrealistic it was. Dad was a doctor, mom was a FT lawyer. PR was 36 when the show started, so if we say that’s her age, and she had a 19-20 yr old. So she was a teen mom! Even if she was early 40s, it still wouldn’t make sense, even if you eliminated the oldest daughter. They never talked about their struggles getting through school/early careers and having/raising a family.

by Anonymousreply 57December 12, 2022 2:14 PM

R50 nailed why I watched Reba.

by Anonymousreply 58December 12, 2022 3:06 PM

The Huxtable parents were smug as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 59December 12, 2022 3:16 PM

The Tanners were annoying as hell

by Anonymousreply 60December 12, 2022 6:11 PM

Cliff and Clare never felt like a married couple. Cliff seemed like her father at most. Of course Cosby cast a younger beautiful woman to be his wife. I like Cliff's parents though.

by Anonymousreply 61December 14, 2022 12:51 PM

I hated Married with Children.
