WHET Dylan O'Brien?

He was supposed to be the "next big thing."

But he sort of fell of the map, after "Love and Monsters" flopped.

Does he have anything at all lined up?

Well, your attempt to say “fell off” makes it clear you know exactly why. After that horrible disfiguring accident his self esteem shattered and like Monty after his wreck, he’s never going to be able to retain the perch he had before

by Anonymousreply 8December 11, 2022 7:06 AM

Look at how short Dylan is, compared to the rest of The Maze Runner cast.

He's even shorter than the korean guy.

Yeah, that accident really changed the course of his career. I'm sure it was traumatizing and affected his self-esteem. But I also think he got a huge payout so maybe he changed his priorities and doesn't have to worry about money anymore and is taking it easy.

Still, he is talented and I hope he does more movies.

by Anonymousreply 10December 11, 2022 7:14 AM

Looks like he did a movie with M Night Shyamalan that just finished filming.

We'll see how it does.

His last three projects totally flopped.

[quote] Dylan O’Brien Returns to Hollywood: Everything the Actor Has Been Up to Since His Brief Break

Ever since Dylan O’Brien made his Hollywood debut as Stiles Stilinski on MTV’s Teen Wolf in 2011, fans have been obsessed with the actor. After playing Scott McCall’s hilarious BFF until the show ended in 2017, the actor took a brief break from the spotlight following an injury on The Maze Runner: The Death Cure set.

While filming the movie’s opening sequence in March 2016, the star was in an accident after a harness malfunctioned during a stunt scene. Over a year later, in September 2017, Dylan told The Salt Lake Tribune that he “broke most of the right side of my face” because of the accident. Now, he’s opening up about how the incident changed his life.

“I had friends that were so dear to me that I had felt that I had neglected for years,” he explained during an October 2020 episode of the “Big Ticket” podcast. “All of a sudden, it was very important to me to nurture those relationships and not lose them. I think that it absolutely completely rewires and restructures the way you see your life and what you deem important.”

He continued, “Whenever I’m putting on a rig, I’m vetting every piece of that rig and much more. Even to this day, if I’m on set and I’m doing a stunt, if I’m in a rig, if there’s some action going on, I am slightly irritable. There is a degree of anxiety in me that I don’t think there’s ever not going to be.”

After the injury, Dylan starred in the 2017 movie American Assassin before finishing up The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which was released in 2018. Since then, the actor has stayed under the radar but made a pretty epic return to social media in May 2020 by replying to one of Halsey‘s throwback tweets. Now, he’s returning to the big screen with a few major projects, and fans are excited to see the actor in some new roles.

Dylan starred alongside Zoey Deutch in the July 2022 movie. According to Variety, the flick follows the story of a young woman who fakes a trip to Paris after looking to grow her social media presence. But when something happens that becomes “part of her imaginary trip,” the lie becomes bigger than her.

Dylan is set to star alongside some pretty major names in the upcoming film The Outfit, which will premiere in March 2022. According to Deadline, it’s set to follow the story of “an English tailor who used to craft suits on London’s world-famous Savile Row. But after a personal tragedy, he’s ended up in Chicago, operating a small tailor shop in a rough part of town where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them: a family of vicious gangsters.”

Dylan is set to star alongside Taylor Swift and Sadie Sink in the “All Too Well” short film, which releases in November 2021.

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ The actor appeared in season 11, episode 2 of the HBO series!

‘Flashback’ Starring as the film’s title character, Dylan’s role as Fred portrays a man “going through an existential crisis as he finds himself on the precipice of full-blown adulthood,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie was released in June 2021.

If he's doing a Shyamalan film, might as well add four projects in a row that flopped.

[quote]But I also think he got a huge payout so maybe he changed his priorities and doesn't have to worry about money anymore and is taking it easy.

I think there's probably truth to that. Having a near-fatal accident and lingering brain trauma probably would change anyone's priorities. The settlement he got probably allows him the freedom to engage in acting on his own terms, and not have to hustle for auditions and roles. Naturally, that means less roles being offered to him and less fame/stardom, but after the accident, he probably doesn't care about those things anymore.

He can afford to work sporadically now.

Wow. "Teen Wolf"was in 2011. That seems like a lifetime ago.

by Anonymousreply 14December 11, 2022 8:29 AM

I think he fell off the map when he fell off that stunt car.

[quote] Wow. "Teen Wolf"was in 2011. That seems like a lifetime ago.

I was thinking the same thing.

I can't believe that Dylan is already 31 years old!

[quote] I think he fell off the map when he fell off that stunt car.

Also, COVID hit just a couple years later, so it was a double whammy.

American Assassin was decent, but Love and Monsters was terrible. Plus, it premiered during Covid, which meant that even less people would see it.

by Anonymousreply 16December 11, 2022 8:49 AM

Love and Monsters was not terrible at all, unless you like the same old shit that Hollywood always produces.

by Anonymousreply 17December 11, 2022 9:03 AM

[Quote] Wow. "Teen Wolf"was in 2011. That seems like a lifetime ago.

But apparently not long enough for them to make an unnecessary movie. I feel sorry for the fans who expect Dylan to return if a sequel happens.

Like Maze Runner and American Assassin?

The article at R12 says that Dylan hasn't ruled out a return to Teen Wolf, but that's a lie.

He's just throwing a bone to his TW fans.

Dylan will never return to television. He's strictly movies now.

He thinks he's "too big" for television.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2022 7:09 PM

He was pushed into action roles despite being a comic actor. It subsequently killed his aww shucks appeal.

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2022 7:15 PM

r6 Desus from Desus & Mero. They were a duo that had a fairly funny show on Showtime but they broke up and I’m not sure if Desus does anything now apart from being Dylan’s friend.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2022 7:17 PM

Thanks, R21.

It's hilarious how Dylan-stans always ship him with his friends.

They did it with Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin too!

It's not about doing television. He just doesn't want to do Teen Wolf.

It really is. Just look at R23
