WHET Japanese Christmas Oranges?

They were everywhere at Christmastime when I was a kid. The Mandarin oranges in the stores these days aren't nearly as sweet and juicy.

I agree, it’s hard to find a good mandarin orange in the supermarket. I had a great mandarin orange tree in the Bay AreaSF, but alas I moved away. It was just so piquant!

You seem insouciant, r1.

I have one every morning with a piece of toast with peanut butter and coffee. Protein and sweets for a morning treat. Yum.

Now nice " jap-oranges." What's next, " Kike kumquats"? " Coon cranberries"?

r7 delights in manufactured outrage.

Canned mandarin oranges are actually pretty good. Refrigerate first. They’re already peeled, of course. Somehow, there’s no tough membrane on the sections. It’s like eating supremes.

Wiki has an interesting bit on the cultural significance of Japanese mandarins. I had no idea there used to be a train which hauled them across North America!

OP, you seem so Victorian.......

What happened to individually wraping them with that green tissue paper?

by Anonymousreply 12December 10, 2022 6:52 AM

They've been replaced by Clementines?
