Celine Dion diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome

So that's what you call it.

This is horrible to hear about ANYONE, and must be terrifying to face for her. She is easy to make fun of, but at the same time has always seemed to be a good soul and she makes many people happy.

May the treatments slow this down as long as possible. There have been rumors for some time about her health. So, so thin. I guess now we know what is up now. I have never heard of this. I wonder if it is similar to ALS (my biggest fucking fear, and I have a LOT of big fucking fears).

by Anonymousreply 1December 8, 2022 11:58 AM

Oh, I have that too.

by Anonymousreply 2December 8, 2022 1:15 PM

And here I thought she had an advanced case of cuntititis with a side of resting bitch face.

by Anonymousreply 3December 8, 2022 1:42 PM

R2 I had it, too, but then my father, John McCain, paid for treatment that made it go away. You know I'm John McCain's daughter, right?

by Anonymousreply 4December 8, 2022 1:42 PM

She has a beautiful voice. Has anyone ever heard of this? It's a bit strange the treatments all seem psychiatric in nature (anti-anxiety meds, muscle relaxers, etc).

Very sad. Love Celine.

by Anonymousreply 5December 8, 2022 1:52 PM

I had that in my teens.

She should know it fades. Too quickly sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 6December 8, 2022 1:55 PM

💜 Celine -please loosen up honey

by Anonymousreply 7December 8, 2022 1:57 PM

we love you celine please get up

by Anonymousreply 8December 8, 2022 2:01 PM

I get that when I stare at Shawn Mendes in his underwear.

by Anonymousreply 9December 8, 2022 2:04 PM

I thought it was a French culture thing.

by Anonymousreply 10December 8, 2022 2:22 PM

Can the effects be localized?

by Anonymousreply 11December 8, 2022 2:24 PM

I always thought she looked statuesque.

by Anonymousreply 12December 8, 2022 2:28 PM

Sealing Dion.

How sad.

by Anonymousreply 13December 8, 2022 2:29 PM

Sad last days.

by Anonymousreply 14December 8, 2022 2:37 PM

Here's more information about it. She'll be able to do great things in terms of fundraising and promoting awareness (and probably inspiring a spate of dramatic and misguided self-diagnoses from Reddit and Discord addicts).

Perfect for tap dancing!!!

She definitely needs to drop starch from her diet.

by Anonymousreply 18December 8, 2022 3:29 PM

A case where "Toughen up!" will only make things worse.

by Anonymousreply 19December 8, 2022 3:30 PM

Those aren't treatments though, r5, they simply relieve some symptoms. It's an autoimmune disorder and those are notoriously difficult to treat.

by Anonymousreply 20December 8, 2022 3:42 PM

I wonder if this is really what's up with her or if it's something more serious like cancer. This is a rather odd "diagnosis."

by Anonymousreply 21December 8, 2022 4:32 PM
It's an autoimmune disorder and those are notoriously difficult to treat.

A friend of mine had an autoimmune disorder, too. Different symptoms though. Basically, her body became allergic to almost every food item. What ended up helping her was some weird therapy that changed her body's perception of the allergens. Some form of 'teach your body that this is good'. Didn't quite understand the treatment, other than that it seemed to be a primarily mental problem, not physical. I am guessing that's what Celine Dion is trying right now. Hope she gets better soon.

by Anonymousreply 22December 8, 2022 4:56 PM

Is this one of those things like fibro?

by Anonymousreply 23December 8, 2022 5:03 PM

She looks like she put on a few pounds.

by Anonymousreply 24December 8, 2022 5:07 PM

R24 She’s healthy, really. Maybe an extra carrot stick. And more black coffee.

by Anonymousreply 25December 8, 2022 5:10 PM
She looks like she put on a few pounds.

It’s probably due to steroids.

by Anonymousreply 26December 8, 2022 5:39 PM

Oh well, that’s the way it is.

by Anonymousreply 27December 8, 2022 5:40 PM
It's a bit strange the treatments all seem psychiatric in nature (anti-anxiety meds, muscle relaxers, etc).

There's not such a huge divide between body and mind. I like Celine, too. She's been an unproblematic celebrity. She has a sense of humor about herself. Kathy Griffin couldn't even find anything wrong with her. I hope she finds some relief from this.

by Anonymousreply 28December 8, 2022 5:44 PM
It’s probably due to steroids.

I figured that. It makes her look healthier.

by Anonymousreply 29December 8, 2022 5:47 PM
She's been an unproblematic celebrity.

Here comes the woke brigade.

by Anonymousreply 30December 8, 2022 5:47 PM

It's terrifying what our bodies can do. Try to imagine how hard it would be to sleep knowing your body is setting up like concrete.

by Anonymousreply 31December 8, 2022 5:55 PM

It's a mistake to look at some of the treatment options and assume it's a mental condition. It's a serious physical condition that can cause tremendous anxiety and emotional distress for obvious reasons.

by Anonymousreply 32December 8, 2022 5:59 PM

It used to be called Stiff-Man Syndrome, until the gender police got wind of it.

by Anonymousreply 33December 8, 2022 6:04 PM

R21 thinks that having "cancer" would be more serious than, incurably, having your musculature and connective tissues ossify to bone and bonelike structures that eventually leave a person locked in a frozen state, body part by body part. Ultimately the mouth locks and one cannot eat or drink with any facility, walking and movement up or down is impossible, and you can be stood in a corner and people would hang their hats and scarves on your protruding bone spurs and admire the African violet on your head.

Perhaps R21, too, will get so lucky.

by Anonymousreply 34December 8, 2022 8:19 PM
you can be stood in a corner and people would hang their hats and scarves on your protruding bone spurs

So she’ll still be helpful. Lovely.

by Anonymousreply 35December 8, 2022 9:50 PM
She's been an unproblematic celebrity.

*eyeroll*

by Anonymousreply 36December 8, 2022 9:51 PM
She looks like she put on a few pounds.

Said no one ever.

by Anonymousreply 37December 8, 2022 10:57 PM

Someone give her a PIRIN tablet, right away!

by Anonymousreply 38December 8, 2022 10:59 PM
It's a mistake to look at some of the treatment options and assume it's a mental condition.

I try to differentiate cause and effect. You can treat the symptoms which are physical. But I don't want to totally discount the possibility that a physical ailing can be caused by a mental issue. Stress is an obvious mental issue that manifests emotionally and certainly physically, too.

by Anonymousreply 39December 8, 2022 11:00 PM

She needs to see a homeopath pronto. Not another minute to waste. They cured me of my fibro.

by Anonymousreply 40December 8, 2022 11:08 PM

But, unfortunately for her in her excruciating misery, her heart will go on.

by Anonymousreply 41December 8, 2022 11:24 PM
She needs to see a homeopath pronto.

She should come here. There’s plenty of us.

by Anonymousreply 42December 8, 2022 11:42 PM

The Canadian government will want to euthanize her as soon as possible.

by Anonymousreply 43December 8, 2022 11:52 PM

This thread is making me so stiff!!!

by Anonymousreply 44December 9, 2022 12:09 AM

I was half-assed paying attention to the tv report and thought I heard "Celine Dion diagnosed w/stick person syndrome". I thought, wow they got an official name for it. I mean other than anorexia or eating disorder. Then I got it.

Wish her well.

by Anonymousreply 45December 9, 2022 12:22 AM
Celine Dion diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome

Are we sure that it's not "Slender Man" syndrome?

by Anonymousreply 46December 9, 2022 12:32 AM

I cannot get over the fact that one of Celine's offspring is the f word: fat.

by Anonymousreply 47December 9, 2022 1:03 AM

I always knew that under that nicer-nice persona she was a hard-ass.

by Anonymousreply 48December 9, 2022 1:51 AM

This sounds like a bunch of bullshit..

by Anonymousreply 49December 9, 2022 2:17 AM

What a bunch of ignoramuses we have on this thread. I weep.

by Anonymousreply 50December 9, 2022 8:44 AM

In what way, r50? Educate us, wise man.

by Anonymousreply 51December 9, 2022 12:08 PM

Very sad. She works so hard and did an excellent job of preserving her voice. It would be a shame if she is unable to perform again.

by Anonymousreply 52December 9, 2022 1:01 PM

Her husband was diagnosed with CLOSET QUEEN syndrome.

Vocal cords, not "chords." It's a common mistake, but still a stupid one.

Celine Today, Celine DiGone tomorrow

by Anonymousreply 57December 9, 2022 5:44 PM

Is it too late to get our Primo Star Property into "Frozen," Manny?

Come on. You'd get a sure-fire bonanza with Celine, on top of the house you're attracting. They'd pay four figures each if all she did was get parked down-center. I see a 10-year run, with some luck. And, you know, after, who cares if it's a Macy's mannequin replacement? It'll be a TRADITION! Vegas and NYC and international tours!

Right! See? Okay. Good. Call me at 4, Baby.

by Anonymousreply 58December 9, 2022 6:47 PM

A couple of spoons of Olive Oil a day and she’ll be as good as new

by Anonymousreply 59December 9, 2022 8:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 60December 10, 2022 1:35 AM

She just needs organic produce and Chinese herbs!!!!!
Celine Dion diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome

In the good old days, she would have just been called a hypochondriac.

by Anonymousreply 63December 10, 2022 4:00 AM

You mean her heart won't go on?

by Anonymousreply 64December 10, 2022 4:03 AM

And I have stiff dick syndrome. Sorry, somebody had to say it. With all of these exotic illnesses, I feel left out. I need to investigate my options. I went to a party tonight and have been drinking....

by Anonymousreply 65December 10, 2022 4:15 AM

she should stop taking Rene's Viagra

by Anonymousreply 66December 10, 2022 4:51 AM

She doesn’t have to make it all worse, with the drab black clothes and skinned back updo.

This is the time for bright colors and great big hair! Call in your backup dancers and keep the blues at bay.

by Anonymousreply 67December 10, 2022 5:47 AM

I feel bad for her, but she cannot be serious when she says she's always given her singing 100%! Girlfriend has been lip-synching her concerts and Las Vegas show for AGES. Sorry, but that makes her a bit of a fraud in my book.

by Anonymousreply 68December 10, 2022 6:09 AM

"Stiff-person syndrome" is beyond rare so I hope she's been properly diagnosed with at least a half dozen non-celebrity doctors weighing in. She looked so emaciated in photos I would assume that muscle spasms would be guaranteed for someone in that state.

by Anonymousreply 69December 10, 2022 6:32 AM

Is this scleroderma? I remember watching a TV movie about Bob Saget’s sister who has this.

by Anonymousreply 71December 10, 2022 4:37 PM

Muscle spasms? She doesn't have any muscle. Girlfriend is a bag of bones.

by Anonymousreply 72December 10, 2022 11:09 PM

She used to say she had muscle spasms and I thought maybe it was due to lack of food (eating disorder).

by Anonymousreply 73December 11, 2022 11:31 PM

You have to eat to live!

by Anonymousreply 74December 12, 2022 8:14 AM

Can’t someone give her electroshock?

by Anonymousreply 75December 12, 2022 8:26 AM
She has a beautiful voice.

Too bad it was misused on such annoying, overwrought music.

by Anonymousreply 76December 12, 2022 8:34 AM
Can’t someone give her electroshock?

That would be like setting fire to a twig.

by Anonymousreply 77December 12, 2022 9:44 AM

In one of the medical articles I read this: [italic]"Spasms of abdominal muscles may lead to individuals feeling full faster than normal (early satiety) leading to unintended weight loss."[/italic] It explains a lot. 😔

by Anonymousreply 78December 12, 2022 10:12 AM
Is this scleroderma?

No.
Celine Dion diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome

So she has the same condition as Rene Angelil?

by Anonymousreply 80December 12, 2022 11:31 AM
It is frequently associated with other autoimmune diseases such as type-I diabetes, thyroiditis, vitiligo, and pernicious anemia. Scientists don't yet understand what causes SPS, but research indicates that it is the result of an autoimmune response gone awry in the brain and spinal cord.

This may explain her weight issues. They’re also a psychiatric component to it as well. High sounds, touch, etc, cause flare ups. I don’t see her ever performing again.

by Anonymousreply 81December 12, 2022 11:35 AM

A hula hoop and some snappy dance records?

by Anonymousreply 82December 14, 2022 11:17 PM

She has gone much softer and more girlish and feminine in her latest movie song, ‘Love Again’

by Anonymousreply 83May 15, 2023 12:47 PM

I'm sure she is being mis-diagnosed. From the photos of her gaunt, skeletal body years before I would have thought muscle spasms guaranteed.

by Anonymousreply 84May 20, 2023 9:51 PM

So sad that she has passed.

by Anonymousreply 85May 20, 2023 9:54 PM

I think she has an amazing voice, though I don't always love her choice of music. I watched her on James Corden's Karaoke Carpool (hate him) and she was very likable and seemed to have a good sense of humor, especially about herself. I think this is sad.
