I have the same tendency. Apparently the wires in our brain for light sensitivity are near to those that control sneezing, and some of us have them bunched a little too close together, so one can trigger the other.

I have been searching for a tasty caffeine-free tea to replace my coffee addiction. I had been avoiding Celestial Seasonings b/c of its past (founder believed in 6 different races and a hierarchy within same). However, I just found that I like "Country Peach Passion" (Celestial Seas.). Don't laugh at the name. I like the smell more than the flavor.
Anyway, apparently, CS was sold to Hain. Hopefully, Hain is an OK company.
If anyone has recommendations on caffeine-free tea, I'd really appreciate it.
So far, I like the Country Peach Passion and rooibos tea.

I agree that a tuna melt should be made with processed cheese. I have a hard time finding the Land O Lakes American cheese. I think my local supermarket's deli might have something like it.
IMO, the best bread for a tuna melt is rye, which is kind of fancy schmancy.

For Chrismukkah, one of my best friends is sending me Sloppy Joes from Town Hall Deli in South Orange, NJ. They're nothing like what people outside the Essex-Union-Morris tri-county area think of as Sloppy Joes.
I'm getting corned beef and turkey, in addition to the cole slaw and Russian dressing. I can't figure out, though, how they're going to make a trip of 350 miles without getting too sloppy to eat. They're scheduled to arrive next Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | December 9, 2022 7:03 PM |
R89, seems you might have become a tad OVERwhelmed.
R90 the peppermint would overwhelm me, sadly. But, tomorrow is going to be my first trip, ever, to Aldi! So your post was somewhat fortuitous.
R101 love "sloppy joes". I live in Union County. First time I saw that I thought, "that's no stinkin' sloppy joe". But I shut up and ate it and overwhelmingly enjoyed it!
by Anonymous | reply 102 | December 9, 2022 9:03 PM |
I'm jealous, R101! I'm watching my weight (hopefully, going in a negative direction), and would love one of those! I usually get a ham and swiss or turkey and swiss SJ. The cole slaw makes or breaks the sandwich, IMO. Too dry and the sandwich whole sandwich is dry; too wet and the sandwich definitely becomes a SLOPPY joe! Enjoy!
I live in Morris County and there are plenty of delis that make them. Finding the best one is the key. I have a deli within walking distance of my house. In the Summer, I can sometimes justify the calories by walking there and back. It's about 1 1/2 miles roundtrip.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | December 9, 2022 9:43 PM |

r153, try changing the battery. If it's a combo smoke/carbon monoxide detector and it still goes off with a new battery, call the fire department, get out of the house and take any pets out with you. It could be carbon monoxide. Sorry to overwhelm. Even the battery change is whelming but it could save your life.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | December 14, 2022 3:38 PM |
It’s supposed to be a ten-year disposable one. You can’t replace the battery—you just replace the detector. I’ve already replaced the first after 2 years. This one lasted three. I have networked smoke detectors in the hallways which did not go off, so I was pretty confident there was no fire.

You just add a little water to the bottle when it gets down to the bottom and the stuff is so slow it won't come out of the bottle. That solves the problem. All liquid soap products are nearly all water anyway.

by Anonymous | reply 206 | December 16, 2022 9:38 PM |
It’s also about not having to invert the bottle each time. Further, it’s easier to regulate the amount that squeezes out. With the old bottle, too much was coming out. I don’t have a dishwasher and I wash a lot of dishes.
In Canada, I guess they’d have to call it “E-Zee Squeeze.”

I put the recycling out last night, but in the morning I realized I put out paper and they were collecting cans and bottles! My recycling bin for those was already full, so keeping them another two weeks would be a disaster. So I bolted out of bed at 7:30, confusing the cat who was waiting for breakfast, threw on some clothes and made the switch. Tried to explain to the cat that it wasn’t time for breakfast. It was a good thing I hauled my ass out of bed when I did, since the recycling crew came very early this week while I was recovering from the exertion. The cat got breakfast at her usual time.

We had an electricity outage in my area. Power was out for about 5 hours. My main concern was for the food in my fridge. I had just done some batch cooking & didn't want it to go to waste. I think the food is OK. Luckily, I hadn't opened / closed my fridge for a while before we lost power. When the power went out, I didn't open the fridge.
Realized that my pantry (room-temp foods) is lacking. Nothing to eat, no snacks, whatsoever. I ended up going to the convenience store and getting some crunchy Cheetos and a slice of cheesecake.

Lunch is Wild Caught Alaska Sockeye Salmon which I bake in the oven after I've coated it with Extra Virgin Olive oil, and put a mixture of Dijon Mustard mixed with brown sugar on top ( NYT recipe) I squeeze some lemon juice on it and serve- yum. I also have a bowl of trail mix ( nuts and dried fruit) and I throw in some Trader Joes freeze dried bananas, blueberries and strawberries. The trail mix also contains some Kirkland Signature Butter Toffee Cashews- yum 😋

R405, it's easy. I slice extra sharp cheddar cheese from the block, put it on a piece of bread, and put the bread and cheese in the toaster oven until the cheese is bubbly on top. You can use any hard cheese you like; I prefer extra sharp cheddar or gruyere. If you want to live a little, put some crispy bacon on top when it comes out of the toaster oven.
by Anonymous | reply 406 | January 3, 2023 5:57 PM |
Toasted bread, cheese on top, nuke 30 secs.

R407, that may work, too. I've never nuked bread. This was a quick breakfast from childhood; we didn't have a microwave back then (I'm 60).

There was an article in the DM today about something called "Viking toast". I didn't read it, but it looked like it had onions on it. Never heard of it before.

Probably onions and pickled herring on a dark rye buried under an old shoe for 3 months. Those crazy Vikings...

R413, I hope your kitty is OK. I've never had to provide a urine sample; just stool. Cos is sending your kitty head butts and nose boops to make him feel better.

Went food shopping today. My local Shop Rite no longer carries Edy's ice cream. They did have French Vanilla from Turkey Hill so I bought that. Apparently, Baskin Robbins no longer makes or sells French Vanilla.
I did see a Vienetta, though. Someone mentioned that on the thread about foods that are no longer available. Was it always made by Good Humor? I don't remember that.

I made the mistake of watching a YouTube video about Costco's top ten bakery items. There's something called a "Tuxedo Cake" that I've never tried. It's reasonably-sized, for a Costco item. Has anyone tried this?
by Anonymous | reply 418 | January 6, 2023 7:35 PM |
R417- Go to Stop and Shop instead. They would probably carry that item.
by Anonymous | reply 419 | January 6, 2023 8:10 PM |
Thanks, R417. I do have a S&S near me. I don't buy ice cream very often but I remembered that Edy's made a slow churned variety that was lower in calories. I was just shocked not to see any in the freezer section. Guess they had to make room for the oat milk/almond milk/vegan "ice cream" offerings. I used to be able to buy mini containers of Edy's ice cream as well as Haagen Dazs but they stopped selling them years ago.

R543, I cook everything; it’s nice to keep the kitchen clean by “forgetting to eat” every once in awhile - much like leftovers, except I don’t have to clean anything up and I can claim fasting points if religious loons are lurking about.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | January 26, 2023 2:57 AM |
No, 543 I’m not. I’ve slept a lot today and didn’t feel like going downstairs.
by Anonymous | reply 545 | January 26, 2023 3:21 AM |
I never forget to eat. I think it's anorexic people who say that.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | January 26, 2023 3:24 AM |
If I’m in the middle of a book or “project”, I don’t think about eating. Eating is for a lounge atmosphere - added to music, booze, and smoking.

by Anonymous | reply 549 | January 26, 2023 8:08 AM |
It's a humble brag. "I was so busy today, I forgot to eat."
by Anonymous | reply 550 | January 26, 2023 8:15 AM |
I had to deal with a self-absorbed arrogant service person yesterday - it seems to be the norm.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | January 26, 2023 8:32 AM |
Sometimes I wish food has evolved to pill form like on The Jetsons. I like to eat but pretty much hate everything associated with food procurement. On days when I am really busy and focused I will just have protein shakes and bars. A pill would be easier.

I wonder whatever happened to that Judy Jetson?
She seemed kind of fast to me...

I overcooked the chicken, but I served it and ate it anyway.

Last night I dreamt that my iPad was broken (folded in half like a wallet) and I couldn’t find the Apple Store. I was wandering on foot in a dystopian urban area and someone tried to shoot me.

My new vape toy requires maintenance and it’s a sticky gooey mess. You don’t take them in for service.

I thought by watching Endeavour Series 1 Episode 1 I was seeing the young Morse’s introduction, but NOOOOOOO. I have to look for the pilot episode which preceded 1/1 and is not available on Amazon Prime without a separate subscription to a PBS streaming service. So confusing.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | January 28, 2023 9:30 PM |
I found it on the PBS app. It’s not even listed as the pilot but as “Special.” Perhaps it was originally produced as a one-off film. The solution to the murder involves crosswords and opera. DCI Thursday is the Gov, but no one else at the station in the beginning of the series is there. Not even Strange. I suppose that’s why 1/1 begins with Bright’s arrival, talking about cleaning house.

I am heading out to drop off three bags of stuff I want to get rid of. I can probably fill three more bags but that would be whelming. This is a good start.

Yes, R571. And for some people there is even more they can learn every day than the average person, apparently.

I've thought that Gena Rowland's role in that movie is kind of a metaphor for gay me...
I'll tell you why...but SPOILER ALERT if you haven't watched it...

Get PRID salve from any drugstore. If you want to be whelmed, and I mean really whelmed, allow it to get super infected.

I'm going upstairs in a moment to lift weights- Looking HOT is hard work- I've lost 50 pounds since May 2021 . I was lifting weights when I was a FAT WHORE too but now I'm very careful about what I eat. I'm 57 years old so I don't know who's going to find me hot but I make the effort anyway.
