‘That 90s Show’ trailer is here!

God. I can’t wait. I love Redd and Kitty!!!

I'd rather they covered the '80s, this makes me feel old.

by Anonymousreply 1November 29, 2022 7:48 PM

R1 they had an 80s Show already. It flopped.

by Anonymousreply 2November 29, 2022 7:48 PM

a laugh track in 2022 huh

by Anonymousreply 3November 29, 2022 7:50 PM

So they never aged in 20 years?

by Anonymousreply 4November 29, 2022 7:54 PM

[quote]So they never aged in 20 years?

It's been almost 17 years since "That 70s Show" ended, R4. They've aged.

by Anonymousreply 5November 30, 2022 1:25 AM

Kids with zero charisma who photograph well. I prefer the original cast - kids with charisma who photograph well.

by Anonymousreply 6November 30, 2022 1:31 AM

I have high hopes for this even though the trailer is cut like a Disney show. Red and Kitty forever!

by Anonymousreply 7November 30, 2022 2:34 AM

Trailer was not funny at all. This will suck.

by Anonymousreply 8November 30, 2022 5:57 PM

Three camera just does not work on streaming.

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2022 6:07 PM

Too bad it doesn’t seem funny in the least. Aren’t the best jokes/scenes supposed to be in the trailer? If that’s the best that there is, I’ll pass.

by Anonymousreply 10November 30, 2022 6:14 PM

R9, that makes no sense. What does streaming have to do with the way a show is shot? It’s still television. That god-awful Fuller House was three camera and was a hit on Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 11November 30, 2022 6:15 PM

The kids suck! They couldn’t cast better ones?

by Anonymousreply 12November 30, 2022 10:22 PM

Red was never my favourite but I get why a lot of people like him. I'm just not excited by the trailer, seeing him once more, hitting that same note over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 13November 30, 2022 10:27 PM

That looked, like, totally lame.

by Anonymousreply 14November 30, 2022 10:33 PM

Nothing in the trailer looks particularly 90’s

by Anonymousreply 15November 30, 2022 10:38 PM

R15 because it’s set in a house.

by Anonymousreply 16November 30, 2022 10:49 PM

So diverse, it should be called "That '20s Show."

by Anonymousreply 17November 30, 2022 10:51 PM

R17 thinks people didn’t mingle with others until 2022.

by Anonymousreply 18November 30, 2022 10:53 PM

[quote]Nothing in the trailer looks particularly 90’s

It was originally supposed to be set in present time. A social media revelation was supposed to be a big plot point. And original cast were going to FaceTime in as cameos.

by Anonymousreply 19November 30, 2022 10:57 PM

The original teen cast make cameos in the premiere episode. All minus Danny Masterson, obviously.

Mila Kunis said they filmed it and it was weird acting with Ashton now that they’ve been married so long.

by Anonymousreply 20November 30, 2022 11:11 PM

Danny was just acquitted so he can be in it now.

by Anonymousreply 21November 30, 2022 11:19 PM

[quote]It was originally supposed to be set in present time

Link.

by Anonymousreply 22November 30, 2022 11:22 PM

This show will make it or break it based on the kid actors. I love Red and Kitty. They were the only draw in that miserable trailer though. None of those kids registered with me in that brief clip.

by Anonymousreply 23November 30, 2022 11:30 PM

Why is their daughter built like a linebacker?

by Anonymousreply 24November 30, 2022 11:33 PM

not one of those kids looks anything like the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 25November 30, 2022 11:35 PM

The show will make it off of nostalgia. That 70s Show was a popular series with young people in the late 90s and early 00s who are now in their late 20s-40s, not counting the adults who liked it who are now older too.

by Anonymousreply 26November 30, 2022 11:38 PM

It was always meant to take place in the 90s. Never modern day. That 70s Show finale was New Years Eve, and it ended when it became 1980.

This takes place in the mid 90s, and was always meant to.

by Anonymousreply 27November 30, 2022 11:40 PM

The timeline doesn’t match up. Was Donna pregnant in the finale?

by Anonymousreply 28December 1, 2022 12:13 AM

R28 not originally, but they can always say she was and found out after.

by Anonymousreply 29December 1, 2022 12:26 AM

This looks like some sad throwback to the TV in 2003.

by Anonymousreply 30December 1, 2022 12:27 AM

[quote] [R28] not originally, but they can always say she was and found out after.

That doesn’t fit the Donna character at all. Weren’t they teens just graduating high school? She was supposed to go to college and have a career and now they made her a teen mom.

by Anonymousreply 31December 1, 2022 1:43 AM

R31 supposed to. Supposed to doesn’t mean it definitely happens. Shit happens that details what is supposed to happen, all the time.

by Anonymousreply 32December 1, 2022 1:49 AM

I remember an episode of that 70s show when it was the future at one of their high school reunions And I think Donna had a career at that point and was seeing Eric for the first time in years.

Does anyone remember that or did I imagine it?

by Anonymousreply 33December 1, 2022 3:32 AM

Who knew Wisconsin was such a melting pot.

by Anonymousreply 34December 1, 2022 4:40 AM

They really missed the mark on the 90’s fashion. It all looks contemporary. No holographic windbreakers or baggy jeans or Irish sweaters.

by Anonymousreply 35December 1, 2022 4:44 AM

Red and Kitty didn’t age. Based on the trailer, they are still funny and the best thing about the show. The kids fall flat, that doesn’t seem to be the daughter of Donna and Eric. The forced diversity casting also gets a thumbs down. The should have brought back Donna, Eric, Fez.... with special appearances but Mila and Ashton.

by Anonymousreply 36December 1, 2022 4:46 AM

Oh, c'mon. We all tuned in to watch Kitty lose her shit. Best part of the show.

by Anonymousreply 37December 1, 2022 5:32 AM

R37 no. Because it didn’t happen that often.

by Anonymousreply 38December 1, 2022 6:16 AM

This doesn't look like a 90s tv show. Way too diverse.

by Anonymousreply 39December 1, 2022 6:45 AM

Lmaoooo r39 please go die. The 90s were a diverse time

by Anonymousreply 40December 1, 2022 6:53 AM

In Wisconsin?

by Anonymousreply 41December 1, 2022 6:55 AM

I loved Red and especially Kitty, but that trailer doesn't give me much hope for the show being good.

I agree that none of these kids seem to stick out. Not that the ones from the original were master thespians, but they were good enough and had great chemistry together. I don't see these new kids clicking like the ones did in the original. Plus, the original had great supporting characters (Bob, Midge Laurie) that also added to the show.

by Anonymousreply 42December 1, 2022 6:59 AM

I’m sure there were some people who were friends with non-whites in 1990s Wisconsin. I’m sure not every single person there never interacted with anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 43December 1, 2022 6:59 AM

Is Wilmer Valderrama on it? At least to find a new underage girlfriend?

by Anonymousreply 44December 1, 2022 7:29 AM

No, he’s currently on another show with Jeff Lewis.

by Anonymousreply 45December 1, 2022 7:31 AM

I think Wilmer is supposed to make an appearance. Probably just one episode though.

by Anonymousreply 46December 1, 2022 7:34 AM

[quote]Why is their daughter built like a linebacker?

Have you ever seen Donna?

by Anonymousreply 47December 1, 2022 5:00 PM

I loved That '70s Show (well, the first five seasons, anyway), and adore Red & Kitty, so I will watch this....no matter how painfully unfunny the trailer looks.

by Anonymousreply 48December 1, 2022 5:18 PM

Will "my foot in your ass" jokes be problematic for the snowflakes of the 2020s?

by Anonymousreply 49December 1, 2022 5:23 PM

All the OGs are making an appearance for one episode. That’s it.

Redd and Kitty are the only OGs who are regulars this time.

by Anonymousreply 50December 1, 2022 7:00 PM

The kids don't look grungy enough.

by Anonymousreply 51December 1, 2022 7:05 PM

[quote]Mostly still with its 70s decor.

It'll be fun to see what the living room looks like. At first glance, I thought the basement looked exactly the same (except for Kitty's sewing wall & new flowery shower curtain). But then, I noticed that the living room furniture from the original show is now in the basement! Red's green chair, the sofa (minus middle section), the end table, the tv set, and the blue glass grapes.

But most importantly...although the trippy kitchen wall paper is gone, the copper cheese-grater light fixtures over the breakfast bar survived!

by Anonymousreply 52December 1, 2022 7:10 PM

R51 not everyone was into grunge. I wasn’t.

by Anonymousreply 53December 1, 2022 8:25 PM

[quote]That doesn’t fit the Donna character at all. Weren’t they teens just graduating high school? She was supposed to go to college and have a career and now they made her a teen mom.

R31, It seems as though you have forgotten about (or maybe skipped over) the last three seasons of the show?? Which were worth forgetting/skipping over.

The gang (except Jackie, who was a year younger) graduated from high school at the end of Season 5. Donna & Eric were planning to go to college in Kenosha, but then, Red had a heart attack upon learning that Laurie married Fez (to keep him from being deported).* Eric stayed home in Point Place to work & help Kitty during Red's recovery, and so Donna stayed home/delayed college, too. And then... didn't Bob's Bargains go under because of Pricemart?? (So Donna had financial issues, too?)

Anyway...

Eric & Donna were 16-going-on-17 in the pilot, "dated" May 17, 1976. The 2nd episode was about Eric's 17th birthday (and we learned Donna was a month older). So, they were 20 years-old in the finale, NYE 1979-80.

*Laurie/Fez's marriage was a totally hilarious plot development that fell short of its potential, due to Lisa Robin Kelly's drug relapse/termination/bland replacement.

by Anonymousreply 54December 2, 2022 3:55 AM

Ugh, as if!

by Anonymousreply 55December 2, 2022 4:27 AM

The kids are not funny. This was the best there was??

by Anonymousreply 56December 2, 2022 4:30 AM

[quote]The kids are not funny. This was the best there was??

I keep seeing this -- the kids suck/aren't funny/ no charisma, etc. Just curious this is based on??

Other than Leia, none of them uttered a word in the teaser.

by Anonymousreply 57December 2, 2022 4:54 AM

I keep thinking they’re depicting some far off time when I wasn’t born yet but this is actually the era of Clueless and 90210. This doesn’t give off those vibes of that era at all.

Nope. Still do not like the casting, including the daughter. This looks more Nickelodeon, Red and Kitty deserved better.

by Anonymousreply 69December 23, 2022 2:20 AM

Still not over the fact that Eric & Buddy never kept in touch and stayed friends, or had a drunken experimental kiss (this time mutual).

I mean, they should have been Endgame lovers, but we all know that could and would never have happened, sadly. We would have taken crumbs, even just a finale hint or Buddy cameo.

You’re not over a character who was in 1 episode?

by Anonymousreply 71December 23, 2022 2:36 AM

Actually, all the final couples were wrong imo. Donna worked best with Hyde, Jackie with Kelso, and Fez with no-one. Eric should have been single at the end as well, maybe open to bi feelings (he has an obvious crush on Luke Skywalker as well as other boys in the show).

by Anonymousreply 72December 23, 2022 2:39 AM

I wonder if Jackie will be with Kelso in the reboot cameo? DM isn’t coming back and obviously MK and AK are married in real life. That still blows my mind.

by Anonymousreply 73December 23, 2022 2:43 AM

R72 it was the 70s. No. He didn’t need to be bi.

by Anonymousreply 74December 23, 2022 2:47 AM

I remember randomly zapping to an episode of "That 70s Show" for the first time back then, not knowing what it was. From the first frame, I knew I was watching something that's set in the 70s. I could watch this show's entire trailer without realizing it's not set in the present.

by Anonymousreply 75December 23, 2022 10:57 AM

The worst instincts of modern casting. Not one but two light skinned black actresses!

It’s okay to recognize that 1990s Wisconsin wouldn’t have the same demographics as Silverlake!

by Anonymousreply 76December 23, 2022 11:11 AM

None of the costumes are right. The 90s definitely had a look.

Nobody heterosexual. Or at least that's how it was in Southern Ontario in the 90's. Basically anyone who wasn't straight and white were in one group and then there were the straight whites and closet cases in the other groups.

by Anonymousreply 78December 23, 2022 11:40 AM

Still not feeling the younger cast in the new trailer. They seem like actors that would be cast on a low-end show for teens. I don't see much chemistry there or any that seem that interesting.

I'll still watch to see the originals though.

by Anonymousreply 79December 23, 2022 11:51 AM

r76

One of the young actors - Mace Coronel - is mixed-race too, but I don't know if his character will be.

by Anonymousreply 80December 23, 2022 12:00 PM

Wait, the character is the son of Kelso and Jackie, so he won't be.

by Anonymousreply 81December 23, 2022 12:06 PM

Fez had ambiguous ethnicity, and no one ever bitched about that...

by Anonymousreply 82December 23, 2022 12:44 PM

Looks lame.

by Anonymousreply 83December 23, 2022 1:04 PM

R76 so you think “light skinned” or biracial people (not the same thing) are some new thing in 2022?

Maybe you should crack a history book and get off DL. You’re uneducated and always flaunting it. It’s not something to be proud of.

by Anonymousreply 84December 23, 2022 1:04 PM

R77 Friends was about mid-20s. These are HS kids. HS kids were not dressing like that in 1993.

by Anonymousreply 85December 23, 2022 1:11 PM

R82 “ambiguous ETHNICITY”??? Anyone with working eyes saw he wasn’t white. And in the 70s, when Latin and Hispanic was its own race, he wouldn’t be classified as white. He wasn’t white regardless. Maybe to someone like you, who continuously exposes how uneducated he is (and even seems to take pride in it) Fez was some ambiguous looking man. To anyone with working eyes and a working brain, he wasn’t.

And one can argue the Wisconsin white kids wouldn’t hang out with someone like Fez either.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 86December 23, 2022 1:18 PM

r86

IIRC it was a running gag on the show that it was never revealed where Fez was actually from, that's why r82 said "ambiguous".

by Anonymousreply 87December 23, 2022 1:22 PM

[quote] one can argue the Wisconsin white kids wouldn’t hang out with someone like Fez either.

R86 except..he did? In the show’s universe?

Is it more or less dumb to obfuscate deliberately and refuse to suspend belief or accept the premise of a story? As R87 said, that was the Bit.

T70S is a fucking stupid canned-laugh sitcom made over 20 years ago, so railing against it or forcing a revisionist take on it so it will conform to contemporary real life then or now is a road to nowhere. It happened, it may or may not have been right and accurate, move on.

Funny too that everyone’s more concerned about this than the presence and power of clams in the making of it. Talk about clear and present danger...

by Anonymousreply 88December 23, 2022 1:23 PM

R87 yes but one would still know he isn’t one of the white kids. Especially in Wisconsin. Maybe in NYC you could claim he may pass as white, but a place like Wisconsin??? No. He wouldn’t in most of the country. Not to mention Hispanic/Latin was considered a race in the 70s. Unlike now.

He was also a foreigner. Another argument one can have on why some of them wouldn’t like Fez in the 70s. But then again, the That 70s Show kids were all depicted as pretty liberal (as opposed to the previous generation like Kitty and Redd), so it’s not a shock their kids would be liberal.

by Anonymousreply 89December 23, 2022 1:26 PM

R88 “except..he did? In the show’s universe?”

Ok, so then stop complaining about the group of 90s friends hanging out together. You just contradicted your own criticism and argument. They hang out in the shows universe. Simple. Yet you keep bringing up skin color and race.

Meanwhile, a lot of friends groups were actually more diverse in the 90s. Even moreso than now.

by Anonymousreply 90December 23, 2022 1:32 PM

These new kids bring absolutely nothing to the show in all of the clips I’ve seen. I love seeing all of the old cast though. If this succeeds, which I can’t imagine how it can with these teenage actors, it will be because of the former cast.

by Anonymousreply 91December 23, 2022 1:41 PM

That 70s show was cast very well which is why it was a success.

Can anyone look at the reboot and see any of these actors having a long career?

[quote] Will Zombie Tanya Roberts be making a cameo as Midge?

Bob & Midge divorced in the 4th season (and Tanya never appeared again). Bob was last married to Pam Burkhart, Jackie's mom (Brooke Shields; originated by Eve Plumb).

by Anonymousreply 101December 24, 2022 1:56 AM

Tanya left the show to care for her sick husband of more than 30 years. He eventually died.

by Anonymousreply 102December 24, 2022 2:24 AM

Tanya Roberts left during season 4 but she did a few episodes during seasons 6 and 7.

Midge didn’t just go away. She popped up again in the later seasons as a recurring guest star. If she was still alive I’m certain Midge would be in this.

by Anonymousreply 103December 24, 2022 2:27 AM

Red & Kitty will ALWAYS be funny. The new kids, OTOH.....

by Anonymousreply 104December 24, 2022 2:56 AM

Didn't Eric have a sister?

Maybe the kids are hers.

by Anonymousreply 105December 24, 2022 1:53 PM

Midge returned for some episodes in late season 6 and early season 7. I forget how they wrote her out the second time.

Laurie was Eric's sister. Lisa Robin Kelly, who played Laurie died too. She was fantastic in the role and would've been great returning as a bad influence on Leia and annoying everyone. But I don't think Laurie will be recast, they tried with Christina Moore and she was terrible and quickly phased out.

by Anonymousreply 106December 24, 2022 2:02 PM

Lisa Robin Kelly was amazing as Laurie. She got fired and recast at some point. The second actress lacked the timing and presence of Lisa.

Tanya came back as a recurring guest and then left again.

by Anonymousreply 107December 24, 2022 2:04 PM

All of those kids are average looking. I'll probably just watch for Red and Kitty.

by Anonymousreply 108December 24, 2022 4:14 PM

Wilmer offered to lead the audition process for all the underage female roles, but the producers declined when he kept inserting pages in the script where Fez has sex with their character.

by Anonymousreply 109December 25, 2022 2:06 AM

A lot of people seem to be burying the lede:

The actress who played Laurie was a crackhead and died at a fairly young age.

by Anonymousreply 110December 25, 2022 2:07 AM

[quote]Lisa Robin Kelly was amazing as Laurie. She got fired and recast at some point. The second actress lacked the timing and presence of Lisa.

Yeah she was!! I'm pretty sure I've posted this Lisa Robin Kelly timeline before, in another T7S thread (or an Actors Who Trashed Their Careers type of thread), so I'll try to be brief.

Lisa started going off-the-rails Season 3. The tipping point was when she failed to show-up on the day/evening of filming "Hyde's Christmas Rager". After repeated calls to her home (and cell?) went unanswered, a couple of the show's producers went to her house (fearing something was very wrong), and found her strung-out/wasted.

She was given an ultimatum -- go to Rehab immediately (which they'd pay for as her employer), get clean, prove that you can stay clean, and the "door would remain open" for a return, in the future. She agreed & entered a Rehab clinic that evening.

The B-plot of that episode -- which had the unlikely trio of Laurie, Jackie & Donna going to a bar together -- had to be re-written on the fly to remove Laurie. The writers couldn't pull that off with just a few hours notice for the live-audience taping, so only the party scenes with the guys were filmed that night. Laura Prepon & Mila Kunis just sat on the sidelines & watched (after filming opening scene with the guys). Their rewritten, Laurie-less scenes were filmed the following week. Meanwhile, Laurie's absence from the canvas was addressed a few episodes later, when Kitty mentioned that Laurie had moved to Kenosha to attend Beauty School.

Confident that LRK was clean & sober, the producers brought her back for few episodes at the of Season 5, when the kids graduated high school. After a drunken hook-up with Fez, Laurie married him in the season finale, so he could get his Green Card -- a totally hilarious idea/plot development (re: Red) for Season 6. LRK/ was back in the fold, and was going to figure prominently in S6.

But then, *something* happened during that first week of filming, Season 6. I don't know if she failed a drug test (that's my guess or what....but LRK filmed that first episode of Season 6. I was in the studio audience that night, and you could just tell *something* was wrong. Not with her performance (it seemed fine), but the way everyone was treating her. Wilmer Valderrama could barely contain his annoyance/contempt, stomping around & shooting daggers at her between takes of the Laurie-Fez scenes. It seemed like the only people who would talk to her were Kurtwood & Debra Jo, and the make-up/hair people.

And then, a few days later, it was announced that LRK had been fired. Laurie was quickly was recast in the form of bland, but pretty Christina Moore, and all of the Laurie-scenes in the season-premiere were re-shot. While Moore has gone on to have a nice career...she wasn't Laurie (or anywhere close to Laurie), and only lasted six episodes.

My first exposure to LRK was a FANTASTIC stand-alone episode of the X-Files, that my friend & I referred to as "X-Files Heathers" (before we knew the title). Such a shame. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 111December 25, 2022 8:54 AM

Lisa's decline was so sad. I always thought she was the most talented of the younger cast. It was awful when those mugshots surfaced in the years prior to her death. She looked awful and looked so lost and wasted. She gave an interview on some television show at the time and it was heartbreaking. She apparently never got a baby she miscarried and came across as totally broken.

Debra Jo Rupp was interviewed on some show about her death, and you could tell she really pitied her, and she noted how good she was at playing Laurie. I'm glad she and Kurtwood were kind to her when she was in a bad place while the others shunned her.

by Anonymousreply 112December 25, 2022 11:43 AM

This interview must have been shortly before her death. It was pretty tasteless to run it.

The kids are supposed to be misfits, so the hodgepodge sort of makes sense. However, there not an attractive on in the bunch, including the actress playing the daughter. I would’ve loved a reboot of the original, but this has bomb written all over it. TG looks exactly the same when wearing the wig. He could still play Eric as a teen.

I had black friends in both Minnesota and Washington State (not Seattle or Tacoma) in the 80s. I don't find it so incredibly unbelievable that Wisconsin in the 90s would be just a lily white friend group. And who cares if it isn't realistic, anyway? It's a sitcom. Those huge apartments sitcom characters live in? Not realistic - even outside of New York.

It reminds me of all of the hand wringing over non-white actors in The Rings of Power. Elves aren't real - fine. A black elf!!! Wokeness run amok!

Mace is very attractive.

R115 half the people on this thread think you're an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 119December 26, 2022 4:21 PM

The main reason for the original being a hit was the chemistry between the cast members. Just like Friends, it's the type of show that became popular because people wanted to hang out with them.

by Anonymousreply 120December 30, 2022 3:04 AM

The Gen Z / millennial humor doesn’t translate well.

Gen Z / millennial humor is about being dry, self-aware, awkward, meta, it’s very much influenced by “It’s Always Sunny” and “The Office”.

It doesn’t really translate over into a show that was the exact opposite of “The Office”.

by Anonymousreply 121December 30, 2022 3:12 AM

That looks terrible. Why did they do it?

by Anonymousreply 122December 30, 2022 3:18 AM

That 70s Show is of the Roseanne, Grounded for Life (and creators I think) and Married with Children type of writing. It's meant to be irreverent and filled with dark and fast paced humor, poked fun at sitcom tropes at least in the first six seasons. Season 7 and 8 sucked. Yeah that type of sitcom doesn't work today. People have even call That 70s Show problematic yet ignore it's a sitcom, it's set in the 70s and none of the characters are good people which the pilot establishes.

by Anonymousreply 123December 30, 2022 3:43 AM

The show should have ended once Topher Grace left.

by Anonymousreply 124December 30, 2022 3:58 AM

It’s out now!!!

by Anonymousreply 125January 20, 2023 3:08 AM

I watched it today and it was mostly ok. Redd and Kitty were the best part of the show. The Leia character should have be written to more like Donna instead of Eric.

by Anonymousreply 126January 20, 2023 3:51 AM

I appreciated this line/little bit of (inside) shade from an early episode. While flipping through the TV Guide, Kitty complained to Ozzie about all the summer re-runs, and commented that she'd kill someone for a new episode of Party of Five. To which Ozzie replied:

“If I have to sit through another Grace Under Fire re-run, I’m going to start rooting for the Fire.”

Some may wonder why that's funny. There were definitely more memorable mid-'90s sitcoms that they could have referenced, but Grace Under Fire was a Carsey-Werner show....and train-wreck Brett Butler was the bane of their existence for five years. By the end of it, everyone associated with that show was rooting for The Fire.

(note: The Turners & Gregg Mettler were working on 3rd Rock, next door to Grace Under Fire, during the Brett Butler drama)

by Anonymousreply 127January 20, 2023 11:32 PM

Gen Z unfortunately cannot play 90s kids because of their overexposure to smart phones. It's just a different vibe they communicate very differently

by Anonymousreply 128January 21, 2023 4:22 AM

Millennials who were 90s kids didn't have cell phones when little and most of us got them either in college or high school when most of our formative years were done. It's crazy how we can now see the huge impact of mobile devices on teens. They literally have no social skills.

"That ’90s Show’ Is Worse Than ‘That ’70s Show’ in Every Way"-------The Daily Beast ripped this show to threads.....Link.......Not a single TWINK in the whole cast? Seriously? Casting fat kids was the Gay Death Knell.

Look at the male cast. Fatties!. I don't remember the 90s being this bloated. Cancellation awaits!!

R131 Yep. 2020s Midwest this very realistic. But in the 90s, obesity didn't get the youth yet. It was mostly old people.

by Anonymousreply 132January 21, 2023 4:38 AM

The kids just aren’t attractive enough.

I’ll give it a try for Kitty only.

by Anonymousreply 133January 21, 2023 4:40 AM

Who the hell hired this fat slob Mace? And the stereotyped gay fat asian? A hundred twinks per square foot in Hollywood and they cast like this was a show about guys who need Weight Watchers? No Ma'am!!

This is supposed to be the "cute guy" on the show!?. I honestly thought this was a lesbian because this is what they looked like in the 90s.

R135, I'm going to assume that this is just a bad camera angle..

by Anonymousreply 136January 21, 2023 7:34 AM

They look like they cast actual teens pretty similar to how the cast members for That 70s Show were either teens or very early 20s. The difference is they cast people who were believable as 70s teens and the fashion was accurate. This cast is not believable as 90s teens and the fashion isn't right.

by Anonymousreply 137January 21, 2023 7:39 AM

R136 Guess again. In what gay universe is this the "cute guy"?. I'm not even sure this is a guy.

by Anonymousreply 140January 21, 2023 11:31 AM

R132 how stupid are you? Being an overweight teen was less common in the 90s than now, yes, but that doesn’t mean overweight teens didn’t exist back then at all. I swear you’re a fucking retard.

by Anonymousreply 141January 21, 2023 12:27 PM

R141 Hey hey hey. No need for the language, bud. You think I don't know that? You sound personally offended over something trivial to be pulling out the "retard" insult. If you're advocating against fat-shaming, using an ableist slur isn't helping your case.

by Anonymousreply 142January 21, 2023 2:57 PM

There's one Zima bottle that gives it a 90s feel. This should be called 'That Red and Kitty show' and just let the rest be ambiguous.

There's no ill fitting high rise folded cuff jeans in hideous washes. There's no flannel, no vests, no long skirts, no doc martins, I'll fitting blazers with shoulder pads, or cowboy boot shoes, or platform sneakers, mini backpacks, inflatable furniture, no clunky living room PCs. No evidence of hip hop going mainstream or grunge, or rave culture, they don't even have any remnants of the 70s throwback looks from the 90s!

One season wonder with this mess.

by Anonymousreply 143January 21, 2023 4:03 PM

I’m not liking Eric’s daughter, which isn’t a good sign when she’s the lead teen character.

I loved Topher Grace as Eric. He was very likeable and charming. This girl doesn’t come across that way, to me at least.

by Anonymousreply 144January 21, 2023 4:41 PM

A couple of the framed photographs on the Forman's bookcase caught my eye & brought a smile. There's one of Debra Jo Rupp with Betty White & Tom Poston (Kitty's parents) from their first appearance. And if you look really carefully on the bookcase adjacent to the staircase...there's one of Marion Ross (Grandma Forman), Debra Jo, Kurtwood, Topher, and *Lisa Robin Kelly* (!!!) which was taken on-set during the1st season Christmas episode. It's a little thing, but it's sweet.

by Anonymousreply 145January 21, 2023 9:58 PM

1000 twinks and THIS gets hired as the "cute guy"?. I looked it up. Casting directors also cast "Man with a Plan"---->>Another ugly cast. They also cast "Kevin can wait"---Another ugly cast. wtf?

I didn't care for the new kids as expected (not much chemistry between them), but Red and Kitty were great as usual and stuck it out for them. It was great seeing most of the originals. Wished they used Eric more in particular though.

Netflix picked the show up for a second season, 16 episodes so they must have some faith in the show. I'll probably continue watching for Red and Kitty.

by Anonymousreply 147February 5, 2023 12:35 PM

Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith are brilliant actors, I love when I watch some random movie or TV show and they pop up. It's really sad, Lisa Robin Kelly and Tanya Roberts can't return. Also fuck Danny Masterson, that Scientology-loving rapist scum, I never really liked Hyde tbh though I did enjoy the Hyde and Jackie relationship storyline (mainly due to giving Jackie character development) and felt cheated the writers broke them up over a stupid reason. Season 8 was just painful to watch.

by Anonymousreply 148February 5, 2023 12:58 PM

I mentioned this up-thread, but I feel like it bears repeating for those who loved Laurie -- Lisa Robin Kelly IS represented on the That '90s set, in a family photo on living room bookcase. From Season 1, with Marion Ross as Grandma Forman. It made me smile when I noticed it.

Meanwhile, a still from LRK's scene in the 6th Season Premiere (before being re-shot with Christina Moore) recently popped up on Reddit:

What they should have done was have Red and Kitty raising Laurie’s kid. It makes more sense than Donna and Eric having a kid that old. Donna wanted a career. They could have also had Kelso’s daughter in the friend group.

Kitty and Red not knowing Kelso and Jackie were married and had a kid?! Donna didn’t even seem to know, it was dumb.

This was definitely not an accurate portrayal of 90s kids. It was Gen Z, so no fun there. I knew the kids were going to be horrible, so no surprise there. They were awful.

[quote]Not sure if this has come up in other's reporting yet, but @ LAPDHQ just confirmed they've launched an internal investigation into how Scientology's civil attorney got hold of criminal discovery in the Danny Masterson rape trial.

R59 Looks like Debra Jo Rupp had either one of those Hollywood facelifts or a lot of botox.

by Anonymousreply 152May 17, 2023 5:27 AM

Weren't Masterson and Kutcher really close? How could he not know that his bear friend is a women abuser and rapist?

by Anonymousreply 153May 17, 2023 12:38 PM

How is Masterson a bear?
