When the theft alarm goes off on me, I used to pause but nobody came to check my bag so now I just keep walking, saying (to no one in particular) "I'm good, I paid." Where do they find these over the top employees?

I feel bad about it sometimes but I get kind of rude with these "receipt checkers". When they take the receipt I just walk away leaving them with it in an obvious huff!

This is a bit OT, but why do they have people standing at the doors of Costco with a highlighter checking how many items are in the cart? I would think it's nearly impossible to shoplift there since stuff is in bulk and the cashiers empty your cart.

These asshole door minders are ONLY there to harass who they don’t like. They are elderly and can’t do any real work. Here’s a surprise about Walmart- there are NO cameras !!!!!! The only cameras are trained on the cashiers and the cash drawers. That’s it. The other “cameras” are just plastic domes to fake you out. Amazing. I’m also surprised nobody has killed one of these busy body hateful creeps.

Moreno Valley — we stopped there once on the way home from Palm Springs. The KFC had bullet proof glass in the dine-in cashier area and they buzz you in to the restroom.

Receipt checkers are common at Walmart, though the zealousness of the checker varies from person to person. I had this old lady accuse me of stealing something...but it turns out she missed it on the receipt. She had this "oh shit" look on her face and when I spoke to the manager (yes, I know...), he just sighed and rolled his eyes, clearly indicating this wasn't the first time she'd done it.

I appreciate the efforts to prevent theft, particularly at a place like Walmart, but either check everyone or check no one and if you are checking everyone, have enough stuff so you're not holding up everyone. Leave it to Walmart to fuck up such a basic thing.

I only do curbside pickup at Walmart. It's SO easy to order everything online. You know what they have in stock, it's free, and everything is delivered straight to your car.

This happened to me at Costco. They have self check out and I checked out and this guy came over and said "let me see your receipt.:" I said "why? they check it at the door." and he said "You didn't pay for those muffins..." The fuck I didn't. I said you can follow me to the door and watch them check but if you touch my shit I am going to beat the shit out of you. The manager came over and asked what the problem was. I told her "this guy thinks I stole muffins, why do you check items when we leave if you got sherlock here watching us?" She actually laughed at that. She turned to him and said "Those muffins have not been scanning all day," still red in the face. I held up my receipt and showed them. Muffins 8.99. Go fuck yourself. I handed the manager my costco card and said "you can send me a refund for my membership," and started walking out. She apologized profusely but I was too pissed off and walked out. She sent me a personal apology letter and a 50 dollar costco giftcard with my membership card back. I still don't go to Costco. I switched to Sam's Club out of spite.

I take my receipt from self checkout. I keep it in my right hand and I push my cart right over to the doorwatcher. I smile. “Hello, how are you today?” I ask the doorwatcher who smiles back at me, glances at my receipt, slashes it with a yellow highlighter and says.

“I’m fine, thank you. You have a nice day.”

“Oh you too,” I say. “Thanks.”

I walk past the liquor store and don’t even think of going in, unlike the Chads and Karens who just ballistically freaked out at the exit and who are telling themselves “Just one bottle. Just one, I swear. I’ll leave as soon as I pick up just one gallon jug of Ernest & Julio Gallo……One jug for each brother.”

When I was still living in the US a Walmart receipt checker told me how to avoid having to show a receipt.

She said make sure everything is bagged and do not have any thing loose or unbagged in your cart.

It did waste plastic but at least I didn’t have to stop and show my receipt.

They’re not checking every item, they just look in your cart for expensive stuff (liquor, electronics, meat, etc.) then make sure it’s on the receipt.

I've almost always had good luck with curbside pickup at Walmart, but today I got home and discovered the cottage cheese they gave me expired over two months ago. Fortunately, their return/refund process online is very efficient.

Every once in a while you'll hear that Walmart Security chased the kleptos out to the parking lot, jumped in front of their car, etc.- which is not what they're supposed to do.

I walk up to the checker with my receipt.and let them do their job. What is the problem ? It's not personal when a checker looks at your stuff. What is a problem when they accuse you of something for no reason and act like racist assholes. That ain't not good.

I have a relative who works in a Walmart as a "host" greeter. Apparently, the Walmart does have cameras all over the store. Sometimes the host gets messages from the people who work watching the cameras (the loss specialists) and they tell him descriptions of specific people who will need to be detained. At the same time, the loss management staff is coming up to the front of the store, ready to intervene so that the host does not have to do it. Hosts are trained not to confront people in the way this one did. They ask to see receipts, especially as someone mentioned, when you walk toward the door with unbagged items and without a receipt visibly in hand. They often wave people by. The most sad thing - they do regular training for active shooters, like once a month, all the time. They also recently got switched in terms of their team - they used to be on the same team as the CSM Customer Service Managers and the Cashiers, but they were moved under the loss specialist some months ago. So any time when there is just one door host in the store, they have a pretty hard time getting someone to cover them for lunch and breaks, because that can only be done by cashiers. The people watching the video cameras stay in the back until they have to come up front for an incident.
