Must-not see TV!

by Anonymousreply 1November 28, 2022 6:25 PM

Out of the frying pan and into the storage closet.

by Anonymousreply 2November 28, 2022 6:26 PM

Now Billy can get his share of the $1.99 per month I paid to watch Days of Our Lives.

by Anonymousreply 3November 28, 2022 6:30 PM

Snarky comments aside, I'm glad. I'd like to see it but just didn't feel like this was a movie I HAD to see in the theater, and I was not paying $19.99 (more than a theater ticket) to rent it on iTunes.

by Anonymousreply 4November 28, 2022 6:45 PM

Let the positive word of mouth begin!

by Anonymousreply 5November 28, 2022 6:58 PM

His face looks fat and dirty.

by Anonymousreply 6November 28, 2022 7:00 PM

Haters gonna hate.

I saw it in the theatre. While it has problems and comic bits that don't work, the central story is funny, sweet, and well done. McFarlane is delightful and he and Eichner are quite good together.

See it and judge for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 7November 28, 2022 7:01 PM

Great! An audience of millions will be given a second opportunity not to watch it!

by Anonymousreply 8November 28, 2022 7:04 PM

Nobody doubts the movie is good. It's the idea that releasing it wide to the masses and thinking it would be a hit is what's so fun to discuss. This was narcissism at it's highest by all concerned.

by Anonymousreply 9November 28, 2022 7:05 PM

Some friends of mine went to see it, and said it was abysmal. I’m keen to see whether I agree.

by Anonymousreply 10November 28, 2022 7:07 PM

Per Streamable, it was already known back in September that Peacock would be streaming it by December.

by Anonymousreply 11November 28, 2022 7:39 PM

What happened to renting it for $19.99? Did no one bite?

by Anonymousreply 12November 28, 2022 9:56 PM

We will never forget where we were on certain days--when JFK was shot, 9/11, and when Bros started streaming on Peacock!

by Anonymousreply 13November 28, 2022 9:58 PM

$19.99 is an ABSURD rental price R12. I'd be surprised if people paid that to BUY Avengers Endgame. They just wanted to extract money from people who really wanted to see it, but didn't want to go to a theater (and I don't blame them one bit - producing a movie is $$$).

Most reviews were fairly positive. I don't think this is homophobia. It is just a movie with a limited audience. I mean, what did Donton Abbey (the movie) do? It is just a niche audience, and that's fine, but the budget of the movie has to match the expectations

by Anonymousreply 14November 28, 2022 11:41 PM

R14, the first Downton Abbey movie made a net profit of $88,000,000 worldwide.

by Anonymousreply 15November 28, 2022 11:49 PM

Uh, this damn movie. I tried to give it an honest shot, but damn was it basic. But I did start it at my parents’ house and my dad wanted to watch. I told him he wouldn’t like It. He made jt 10 minutes. Once that awkwardness was over I could focus on this mess of a film.

The biggest crime is that the lead is a preacher asshole, that doesn’t deserve a scorching hot A-lost looking gay. Billie’s character brings NOTHING to that relationship beyond negativity.

And the two leads lacked any chemistry what so ever. I wanted this to be good but it failed.

On the flip side, “Fire Island” made me want to finally visit FI. It also made me envious, if a tad sad, seeing the relationships at the end. It felt almost aspirational. “ Bros” felt forced. But with FI, that white boy would have been a flake in real life but the movie still made me smile. “bros” made me upset for this lost opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 16November 28, 2022 11:57 PM

Preachy asshole*

by Anonymousreply 17November 28, 2022 11:58 PM

This clip showed up on my go-to porn site and it is a real boner killer. Billy is hideous and Luke should be shot lovingly—but doesn’t look so hot in this scene either with his sun damage and flared nostrils. The cinematography looks very “television” with the odd sepia tones. What a disaster.

Bump

by Anonymousreply 19December 1, 2022 4:13 AM

Billy, you owe me $19.99!

by Anonymousreply 20December 1, 2022 4:49 AM

Will this make Peacock into the premier streaming service instead of third tier? With content like this and The Voice, they should charge more.

by Anonymousreply 21December 1, 2022 7:08 AM

The rest of the "premium content" on Peacock is dire. I was on there last night and it's still not worth the $5 a month.

by Anonymousreply 22December 1, 2022 1:22 PM

[quote] Nobody doubts the movie is good.

Uh, speak for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 23December 1, 2022 1:48 PM

This movie sucked. And that was before he started singing.

by Anonymousreply 24December 1, 2022 1:54 PM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 25December 3, 2022 2:45 AM

Billy Eichner has Best Friend Face.

by Anonymousreply 26December 3, 2022 2:51 AM

Man, this sucks.

by Anonymousreply 27December 3, 2022 3:53 AM

Hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 28December 3, 2022 3:54 AM

It's a nice rom-com spoofing a lot of rom-com themes.

by Anonymousreply 29December 3, 2022 3:59 AM

He's... a little heavy.

by Anonymousreply 30December 3, 2022 4:04 AM

I was ready to give this movie a hard pass, but it’s actually pretty good. Like a gay Annie Hall. Billy is ugly and annoying. But he makes some good points.

And the other boy is really quite sexy.

by Anonymousreply 31December 3, 2022 4:24 AM

[quote]Like a gay Annie Hall

Like one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time?!

by Anonymousreply 32December 3, 2022 4:28 AM

It was a barely passable Hallmark-style movie, certainly not worth the hype. The hot guy wouldn't fuck Billy with a stranger's cock.

by Anonymousreply 33December 3, 2022 5:06 AM

Is this a homosexual movie ? The last homosexual movie I saw involved some rather uncouth men that lived by a swamp and a large obese man in this briefs pretending to be a pig ? I think Burt Convey was in it too.

by Anonymousreply 34December 3, 2022 6:20 AM

I did a sort of "Bros" movie marathon with Bros, In From The Side and Horseplay (LOS AGITADORES). Bro was the only rom-com which had a happy ending and featured mainly openly gay actors. But overall, all three movies are good.

by Anonymousreply 35December 3, 2022 7:02 AM

Luke McFarland makes my mussy moist.

by Anonymousreply 36December 3, 2022 8:15 AM

Me too, but a boner killer to see him with Billy.

by Anonymousreply 37December 3, 2022 8:25 AM

Billy always looks disgusting and sweaty. (Like those photos of Hunter Biden on a meth binge.)

by Anonymousreply 38December 3, 2022 8:52 AM

Christian Bake in American Psycho

by Anonymousreply 39December 3, 2022 10:38 AM

I get Peacock free for a year through Spectrum so I watched last night. It was a little long and Billy wasn’t very good but I liked it. Luke was great and there were some funny moments. But I do think casting Billy was a huge mistake.

by Anonymousreply 40December 3, 2022 1:09 PM

Having Billy in the movie is what killed it.

by Anonymousreply 41December 3, 2022 1:49 PM

The $19.99 people are whining about is the standard VOD price for movies that are also playing in cinemas.

by Anonymousreply 42December 3, 2022 2:51 PM

They certainly didn't like it in Lithuania!

It opened in 8 theaters where it made a grand total of $3011 over the first weekend. By the second week, it dropped to just one theatre that brought in another $28.

by Anonymousreply 43December 3, 2022 7:41 PM

I'm15 minutes in and I just can't.

Billy is fucking loud (even at the lowest volume setting)

The majority of the men look terrible.

I can see why it flopped.

by Anonymousreply 44December 3, 2022 7:42 PM

I just finished watching it on my laptop. I hardly checked anything else out online during the entire two hours, so I must have liked it. It was sitcom-ish, Hallmark-ish, corny as fuck in parts, and it rolled out every last LGBTQ+ cliche, but I liked it.

by Anonymousreply 45December 5, 2022 5:35 PM

R42, but when the movie reeks, one is pissed.

by Anonymousreply 46December 5, 2022 6:38 PM

I have Peacock, so now it will be very convenient for me to skip over it.

by Anonymousreply 47December 5, 2022 6:48 PM

That means a whole NEW cycle of complaint and blame by the "auteur" for its failure.

by Anonymousreply 48December 5, 2022 6:58 PM

It would have been a huge box office hit had he cast another hawt guy in his role.

by Anonymousreply 49December 5, 2022 7:08 PM

Zachary Levi would have been neurotic and endearing with loads of goofy charm and his sex scenes would have been hot instead of icky. He and Luke would have been believable together.

by Anonymousreply 50December 5, 2022 9:41 PM

[quote] See it and judge for yourself.

For $1995? Not bloody likely.

I wouldn't shell out $12 to "judge for myself" even when it was brand-new.

by Anonymousreply 51December 5, 2022 10:15 PM

Watched it. Not bad, but not “good”. Cringey in multiple spots but I’ve seen worse.

I agree R50, Zachary Levi would have been better casting.

I don’t dislike Eichner. I like his Billy on The Street bit. I thought he was fine on AHS.

I don’t think this movie would have been a hit no matter what with the script.

by Anonymousreply 52December 5, 2022 11:23 PM

In theory, you could sign up for one month, pay the $4.99, then cancel.

by Anonymousreply 53December 5, 2022 11:53 PM

I only pay $1.99 a month for Peacock. There were no commercials in this movie. And I liked it.

I wasn't going to pay $19.99 FFS.

by Anonymousreply 54December 6, 2022 12:42 AM

Fucking Peacock is edited! Just started watching and the first scene with Billy shaving his ass was deleted.

by Anonymousreply 55December 6, 2022 7:24 AM

And him waxing his pubes and balls was deleted too.

by Anonymousreply 56December 6, 2022 7:33 AM

Luke McFarland is too pretty for FUGLY Eichner.

It's just not realistic.

by Anonymousreply 57December 6, 2022 7:36 AM

Luke’s not that good looking bro. They’re evenly matched.

by Anonymousreply 58December 6, 2022 7:39 AM

Luke looked pretty good in Bros. He should keep his hair grown out a bit, as he did here. His usual buzz cut does him no favors.

by Anonymousreply 59December 6, 2022 7:42 AM

I thought spoofing the whole bros part was the best and yet cringiest part. Like the wrestling as foreplay bit. That's exactly how I imagine these pretending to be masc gay idiots do it.

by Anonymousreply 60December 6, 2022 7:48 AM

r55 and r56 liked Bros enough to watch it a second time.

by Anonymousreply 61December 6, 2022 7:53 AM

It's free now if you have Peacock asswipe.

by Anonymousreply 62December 6, 2022 8:51 AM

I watched it on Peacock over the weekend and that scene was in it R55 .

I liked it more by the end than while watching it. It was fine, and would've probably been great if it was a Strand release in the late 90's with no budget. It really went for every big budget rom-com trope, down to the score.

I know people think we've progressed as a society, but this was never going to fly with big audiences. Poppers? Two men going down on a third while a 4th is odd man out? Grindr speak? Bottom dance??

I'm glad I saw it so I can participate in the conversation, but I doubt I'll watch it again. Amanda Bearse was good, though, and I've never liked her.

by Anonymousreply 63December 6, 2022 10:09 AM

When's it coming to Tubi?

by Anonymousreply 64December 6, 2022 10:19 AM

I think it should've gone more absurd, by replacing Eichner with Seth McFarlane's Ted type of character looking for gay romance in the Gay Community (including the gay bear Community).

Paddington / Ted meets ... well, Bros.

by Anonymousreply 65December 6, 2022 10:21 AM

The ass shaving scene was there when I watched on Peacock.

by Anonymousreply 66December 6, 2022 12:47 PM

If Billy's reading I'd do you bro, but don't shave your ass. Hairier the better.

by Anonymousreply 67December 7, 2022 11:01 AM

But the cock and balls shaving scene was deleted. What does Peacock have against showing genitalia? Especially weird for a streamer with Cock in the name. You’d think they’d make it their brand and be all about it.

by Anonymousreply 68December 7, 2022 4:25 PM

I really wanted to like this movie. But it's just not very good.

by Anonymousreply 69December 7, 2022 4:30 PM

No nudity.

by Anonymousreply 70December 7, 2022 4:56 PM

Can someone explain that fucking weird “bottom dance”? The fuck was that about and why is it supposed to be funny that kids are doing it? It just seemed really inappropriate. I simply didn’t understand that entire scene. (It’s also really confusing who Billy is related to - that was his sister with the bottom dance kids, right?)

by Anonymousreply 71December 7, 2022 4:56 PM

R71 it was supposed to be an example of how that family normalized male homosexuality so their children wouldn’t learn or feel prejudice, I think.

by Anonymousreply 72December 7, 2022 5:02 PM

R72 oh, okay. I guess that makes sense. Still kinda gross though. (I say this as a gay man) Yes, I know, MARY!!!

by Anonymousreply 73December 7, 2022 5:05 PM

It wasn't an appropriate song for a child to sing, R72. You don't see straights teaching their young children to sing songs about heterosexual sex. That scene was gross and uncomfortable to watch.

by Anonymousreply 74December 7, 2022 6:16 PM

[quote] that was his sister with the bottom dance kids, right?)

Billy is white. That chick is BIPOC. They are in no way related, just like Luke and his Latinx brother are in no way related.

by Anonymousreply 75December 7, 2022 8:32 PM

[quote] No nudity.

Thanks to Peacock! Should’ve seen it in theaters.

by Anonymousreply 76December 7, 2022 8:33 PM

I saw it VOD and don't remember nudity. The.big sex scene, they were both wearing underwear. I don't even remember seeing Luke's ass.

by Anonymousreply 77December 7, 2022 8:37 PM

R74 has obviously never been on TikTok and seen trashy straight mommies teaching toddlers to dance to WAP

by Anonymousreply 78December 7, 2022 9:00 PM

R74 I agree. The scene with the kids was not just eye-rolling, but embarrassingly bad.

by Anonymousreply 79December 7, 2022 9:09 PM

Peacock is desperate for us to watch this. I have to scroll through so much BROS shit to get to Murder, She Wrote.

by Anonymousreply 80December 7, 2022 9:22 PM

R80 Just add "Murder, She Wrote" to your "My Stuff" list and it can be accessed directly by hitting the Peacock icon (when logged in).

by Anonymousreply 81December 8, 2022 1:58 AM

So much screen time wasted for endless BTQ+ propaganda. The scenes that involved kids made me VERY uncomfortable: the kids doing the "bottom dance" (why the heck does a toddler need to know what a bottom is in gay sex?), Billy telling how great it was for him to have naked men and cocks before him at 12, the general push for this stuff on kids just very pedo-ish. So very little screen time for the actual relationship. The hot guy goes from shallow himbo to begging enamored insecure teddy bear in like 15 minutes.

Also the overall thing is so unrealistic. Someone as hot as MacFarlene's character would never lose his time for a negative ugly queen like Billy. It's very heteronormative done for straight audience. Billy represents the paranoid passive aggressive girl who is so special that triggers the unexpected love in the hot man who chooses her among other hotties.

by Anonymousreply 82December 23, 2022 8:22 PM

OP, you misspelled "steaming"

by Anonymousreply 83December 23, 2022 8:26 PM

Kids learn about tops and bottoms when they see animals fucking.

by Anonymousreply 84December 24, 2022 7:37 AM

R84 - And from garanimals too. Learning fashion coordination can never start too young!

by Anonymousreply 85December 24, 2022 4:20 PM

Here is the 'Bottom Dance' scene people referred to above. Tragic and weird.

The Bros shill is working so, so hard in this thread. Time to let it go honey, the movie didn't work and neither did you.

by Anonymousreply 91December 25, 2022 8:35 PM

[quote]Would you have enjoyed it more with him?

No, stunt casting wouldn't save this movie.

by Anonymousreply 92December 25, 2022 9:08 PM

I watched it this afternoon. Wasn’t bad at all…the moments that made me cringe were the ones that reminded me of my own behavior with men. So it’s all good. I’m glad I finally watched it.

by Anonymousreply 93December 25, 2022 9:13 PM

It's only $9.99 to buy now which is less than a matinee showing.

I might bite the bullet at that price.

by Anonymousreply 94December 25, 2022 9:18 PM

The worst blizzard in x40 years and people still can't make it out to see my masterpiece? The theaters still have power...what's everyone's excuse now?

by Anonymousreply 95December 25, 2022 9:43 PM

I think it’s because people were waiting to see this in a premium format and wanted to get the best XD 3D IMAX seats. What Avatar has taught us is that people who are waiting for premium formats would rather not go until they could get the best seats and that could mean low Box Office in the first few weeks as there are limited premium seating screens. It would build as the weeks come. But instead of being patient and waiting, Billy pulled it and sent it to streaming rental for $19.99.

by Anonymousreply 96December 25, 2022 10:34 PM

Yes, the entire world was waiting to watch Billy Eichner in 3D.

by Anonymousreply 97December 26, 2022 12:20 AM

R96, give me a fucking break. No one was waiting for the premium experience for Bros. You must be his mother, still trying to boost his morale.

by Anonymousreply 98December 26, 2022 12:31 AM

Luke has the most beautiful hamstring muscles.

by Anonymousreply 99December 26, 2022 1:47 AM

[quote]Luke has the most beautiful hamstring muscles.

Luke is gorgeous. He was cute in the Sally Field show. But, he got buff for Killjoys, and it looks good on him.

by Anonymousreply 100December 26, 2022 1:52 AM

Finally saw it. Billy is not SOOO repulsive that I can't imagine, but he was just so damn annoying and needy and fucked up about not being some stupid jock. That is what was really hard to take. I get we have our insecurities and our bullshit, but damn, it just seemed like he'd be Roxanne level exhausting to anybody who tried to date him, and I don't see how anybody who had options would put up with it, at all, for more than a week.

by Anonymousreply 101December 26, 2022 1:59 AM

I can't believe Luke didn't show ass in this film.

by Anonymousreply 102December 26, 2022 7:59 AM

R7 Elder-Elder Gay. No one under 80 uses the word 'delightful'.

by Anonymousreply 103December 26, 2022 8:11 AM

R86, DAMN, that was painful. And what's with Billy's voice. He doesn't exactly have a lisp...more like a lisp with a mouthful of mashed potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 104December 26, 2022 8:18 AM

R95 Oh Billy, it hasn't been playing in an actual movie theatre in the U.S. since the week of October 28 - November 3. At that point, it was playing at 101 screens - quite a drop from its opening at 3350.

by Anonymousreply 105December 26, 2022 8:22 AM

[quote] There is a section of the film set during Christmas. Make Bros a Christmas classic.

It'll be perfect for high rotation on Hallmark!

by Anonymousreply 106June 28, 2023 12:50 AM

Bros will be perfect on the Cock.

by Anonymousreply 107June 28, 2023 12:52 AM

Finally watched and not as awful as I expected. I laughed more than I usually do with contemporary comedies. However, there were issues:

Sorry, there is still NO WAY I could ever buy McFarlane falling for Eichner. Was that supposed to be a parody of every rom-com where the unnaturally gorgeous guy falls in love with a plain jane? I don't like it in "straight" rom coms and I certainly didn't like it something supposedly more relatable.

The movie seemed wildly uneven. Is it a silly (funny) comedy? Is it trying to make serious points? Is it a drama? WTF am I watching?

The last half hour or so is a painful slog. Mawkish treacle and pure sap. I think it gave me diabetes. It was a huge departure from the first (and far more entertaining) 40 or so minutes. It's almost like two movies in one.
