The selection of farm to table items was ok. But I went to the bins to get a pound of dark chocolate almond clusters. I put them in a plastic bag went to pay. But the cashier threw a fit because apparently your supposed to take a tag and write a code number for the bin item you chose, with a pen, and then twist the tag around the bag. It didn't seem right to me that they were making the customer do work, so I begged off.
Just went to Sprouts for the first time

OP should be shot in the face, but I am going to beg off, so as not to do his job for him.

We don’t have that around here.

Op, did you apply for a job at Macy's for the Santa position?

"cashier threw a fit"
OP, the cashier did not at all. You seem desperate to just make up stuff. How odd and sad.

Anything fancier than Costco is just a scam/snake oil

I hate fucking hate Sprouts. It's groaty but tries to be fancy which is the worst combination.
It smells weird and the staff is always passive aggressive or aggressive aggressive. There's one on the corner in my neighborhood and I NEVER go there. I wish it was anything else-- Aldi, Winco, whatever, just NOT Sprouts.

It's NOT fancier than Costco! You're kidding, right?
It's the Sears of "natural living" stores.

Sprouts is fine. Sorry you don't have the sense of a flea, OP.

Sprouts has always made the customer write the number on the tag.
Cashier have always had a hissy fit about anyone's failure to write the number on the tag. I think it's their way of making sure you never forget to write it down again.

I don't know anything about Sprouts, but half the time in these situations they're either out of bags, out of tags, or there's no pen.

R10 "Cashier have always had a hissy fit"
Weird. When I've been in Sprouts and someone didn't know, the cashiers were quite polite and helpful. But, I've only been to the one near my house.

OP, wait until your first time in Europe. Your head will explode.

They used a Britishism unheard of in the US in their post. In other words, your attempt to be smug just exposed your own profound ignorance.

In evaluating your ESTs, I can’t help but notice some abnormalities in your blood work. Are you on any medications, OP?

They have Sprouts in the UK now.

Yes, R11, pens and tags are often not available, though I use the self-checkout and type the product name and it comes up fairly quickly, so no problem. I like Sprouts for the produce and bin items, I often just want a few things and don't want to have to buy a huge amount like most of the supermarkets in my neighborhood, which package their things for families instead of pathetic old gay men.

I like Sprouts because it has many of the things I like(d) about Whole Foods but at substantially lower prices.

R18, do you have a Winco nearby? Their bulk selection astounds the young and old alike. The one in Denton, Texas sells honey, apple cider vinegar and avocado oil by the ounce, bulk candy galore-- everything to hard candy ribbons (but you're not THAT old) to chocolate covered peanuts to chili mango gummies, weird flours, graxy mix, spices, cereal, dog food, bird seed (a variety of types), nuts, different types of rice and so on in bulk.
