Death and the Maiden - With Sigorney Weaver and Ben Kingsley

Sigorney should have won an oscar for this, she was magnificent. It is also an universal movie about the horrible aftermath of cilvil war. Yet it is rarely mentioned , why do you think is that?surely not for Polanski. Any love for it here? Kingsley speach at the end is chilling.

Our Glenn played it on Broadway.

I am sure that in spite of Roman Polanski’s cinematic mastery and the fine performances critics described it as a filmed play.

My hag friend in my early teens was obsessed with Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves and claimed it ripped off Closet Land with Madeline Stowe and Alan Rickman (!!). Even at that age I couldn’t take her seriously.

So boring.

by Anonymousreply 4November 25, 2022 10:03 PM

I enjoyed it but it definitely felt like a play.

Glenn Close originated the role on Broadway

Isn't this the role Glenn went barefoot?

Siggy deserved more award attention for this

I saw DEATH AND THE MAIDEN on the West End with Thandie Newton or however she spells it now. She was awful. Definitely not a stage actress.

NO - it was the play "The Real Thing" she went barefoot

by Anonymousreply 9November 25, 2022 10:14 PM

I think I'd have liked it, movie or stage.

How come Glenn didn't reprise the role?

Y'all know this supposedly takes place in an "unnamed" South American county, right?

Paulina Salas . . . Glenn Close/Sigourney Weaver

Gerardo Escobar . . . Richard Dreyfuss/Ben Kingsley

Roberto Miranda . . . Gene Hackman/Stuart Wilson

Maybe they could have cast more appropriately?
