Aftershock on Netflix

Really engrossing 3-episode documentary about 2015 Nepal earthquake and how it affected Everest climbers and others in the country.

Sounds good! I needed something to watch and this is right up my alley.

Excellent show! Can’t believe they have so much footage

The whole thing was terrifying to the Mt Everest climbers

Op, I finally watched this last night and was riveted. The video footage was jaw dropping. I'm so glad you posted this. I binged the 3 episodes in one sitting.

How bout those Israelis looting the obliterated village? They were lucky the surviving locals only tossed a few rocks at them and didn't stone em to death.

R6, I wonder how I would have reacted in the same situation. In a disaster, all rules seem to go out the window. If I saw money, I think I would take it too.

Apparently you haven't seen the program. This was a traumatic situation for everyone, mostly for the villagers whose homes and familes had been killed. And yet not a single person in the group, locals or tourists, decided to wander off and smash open a locked box found on the ground and take the money inside when they claimed to be looking for food for everyone. Not a single person in the same situation reacted that way or thought it was understandable. Except you, apparently.

How did the Israelis used their GPS phone to get an Israeli helicopter pilot to rescue them. Was the pilot sent from Israel???

by Anonymousreply 9November 28, 2022 11:21 PM

R9. It's not exactly clear but seems like a coincidence.

by Anonymousreply 10November 29, 2022 12:01 AM

R10, no way that’s a coincidence.

by Anonymousreply 11November 29, 2022 2:13 AM

R11 Nice that Israelis can loot and call for backup then, even in a remote village. And the pilot did announce he was Israeli as soon as he landed, uh ok, do you want our stuff too?

by Anonymousreply 12November 29, 2022 2:31 AM

That was a plot device. The Israeli situation didn't make sense. They took the money BUT also took the ID and announced they had the money when they got there. If they wanted to keep the money, they could have just ditched the ID, put the money in their pack and nobody would have ever found out.

Also, who "forgets they have a satellite phone"? That would be the first thing that I would have done. I think this was just editing and were doing a hit Jon on the Israelis. The villagers were rightfully distraught and they wanted to vent their anger.

They did not "announce" they had the money, the villager in the yellow jacket saw it and said what's that? The Israeli refused to give it to him and he had to forcibly take it. As far as the thief not removing the i.d. from the money stash, he figured it supported his story that he was just trying to return it to its rightful owner if he got found out, which he did. You have to consider the entire sequence of events. The thief lied about the box being unlocked, then recanted. Instead of bringing the entire metal box back to the villagers he smashes it open. Stop right there. Who the fuck does that? Even his friend said don't do it. At the end of the show the thief finally admits he should have been more sensitive. IOW he should have realized that villagers know what every single villager possesses down to the last match and tea leaf so there was no way he was going to get the money out of there.

You could see on camera that he was being shady with the Producer when it's mentioned that his friend, interviewed earlier, said that it didn't happen exactly the way he was recounting up until that point.

They were stealing it.
