Listen, it wasn’t that long ago but times were very different. Rosie played the straight girl with a crush on a movie star because it made her more relatable to her frau audience. Can’t fault her for that.

R37 what's interesting (or, sad and disturbing) is that by today's Tammy Slaton-level definition of fat or obese, Rosie isn't all that big. She's just chubby.

I wouldn't be too hard on Rosie. There is a tradition of talk show hosts having a "crush" on certain guests. It adds a little excitement to the interaction. It's harmless.

Letterman went though a period of having a "crush" on Teri Garr. Later, he had a "crush" on Amy Sedaris. They just had nice chemistry and played it up.

Tom Cruise has always been nuts. It really shines through in this interview.

This reminds me of how much I used to love to watch her talk show like it was always pretty entertaining and she always had really awesome musical guests and I enjoyed her interviews. however watching this it seems like she changed her voice for the show I'm trying to think did she always sound like that while doing the show.

Mary Harron, director of American Psycho, once claimed that Christian Bale had seen Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and that's what he based his Patrick Bateman on.

I think Harron actually got it confused. Cruise's one time on Letterman, several years before this, he was pretty normal. The timeline of the development of the movie lines up perfectly with THIS interview being the one he used to create Bateman. Even when this first aired, I remember thinking Tom Cruise seemed absolutely insane.

I was also a kid when Rosie's show was on and it aired at 4 pm. I would watch sometimes depending on the guests.

I was working, but we had these things called VCRs and I would record her show and watch it when I got home 🤔

Rosie was in her element the first few seasons. She’s an excellent interviewer and a quick wit.
