Love that her Married... co-stars, except O'Neill, were there.
I like Katey Sagal. I hope she's as nice as she seems to be. I'd hate to find out she's just another raving bitch.

Always liked her. I'm sorry about her illness.

Is this a pity star?

Love that Amanda Bearse was there but seeing Christina already needing a cane is heartbreaking.

She's great and I'm sorry she has MS. "Don't tell Mom the Babysitters Dead", is a movie I have always enjoyed and probably always will.

MS is awful and the symptoms are hitting her hard it seems.
However, she should be an honorary DL icon simply because she pulled this while he was at his peak hotness:

What is with these actresses and ms? Were they all doing too much blow? Doesn’t cocaine mess with the lining of the brain?

No. Just nose cartilage.

She was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and had a double mastectomy. WTF. God bless her. At least she has a strong support system and a sense of humor.

R1 I remember years ago Jason Ritter said something like 'to this day, Katey Seagal still checks on us all - she was a great friend to dad, and is a sweet person..."
Seems like maybe she is!

What, no Al?

R11 He was mean to Amanda Bearse for being a big lez, so maybe he won't show if he knows she'll be there.

R1 I know people who worked on Sons of Anarchy. Hair and makeup hated Katy.

I saw some clips from the event, and they were quite touching. Christina at one point in her speech blurted out “I have a disease, by the way—I’m not wearing shoes”. She was funny and able to make light of the situation, which seems on par for her. At one point, she swatted David Faustino’s hand out of her face in a true diva moment.

R12 I guessed that reason as well.
None of Marcy's tv husbands could pop up for this tribute?
For shame.

Didn't she fuck Will Arnett while he was married to Amy Poehler?

I watched the video of the ceremony too, it was really touching. She's such a great person and is loved and respected.

I remember growing up watching her on reruns of Married and thinking "God what a bimbo whore." Decades later, she's a stellar actress with a lot of great roles. After watching her on Dead to Me and other films, it's obvious that she's definitely on another level in terms of talent. In my opinion, I think she may be one of those prodigy-style talents. Kelly Bundy wasn't a great acting role, but I think she really nailed that character, and it was indeed talent that worked for her instead of playing to part. Although she's never had any beefy dramatic roles that I've seen, her work on Dead to Me is on another level of ingenuity. And although I love Linda Cardellini, she really is lackluster in comparison to Applegate. But I actually think it's more so that she's just an incredible talent and simply outshines her costar, rather than Cardellini being weak. She's someone I root for in Hollywood because she seems nice, her life has kinda sucked with all her illnesses but she (at least publicly) seeks out no pity or sympathy, and she's sorta A-list but not, and it's obvious she doesn't care to be. I really wish her all the success in the world. Happy for her and her star.

R18 I also think she’s more versatile than a lot of people would have assumed. Most actors who can nail comedy (which she is a natural at) also have significant dramatic ability, but they’re often typecast and end up doing mostly comic work because it’s more reliable and it sells. I remember reading that she got rave reviews for her role in “Sweet Charity” on Broadway, and I believe she got quite a few big theater nominations for that part as well. I’m sort of surprised she didn’t do any more stage work after that.

I really liked her show “Samantha Who?” with Jean Smart and Melissa McCarthy. It seemed to be doing well, won some Emmys, but was then cancelled.

She also was excellent in "Anchorman" and held her own amid the boys' club cast.

I recall her reputation being that she was really nice and very professional.

I watched the first two episodes of the third season of DTM.
Poor thing — she actually looks in pain in some scenes. In the first episode, she doesn't even stand once. And (minor spoiler) she's in a neckbrace from a car accident. MS patients report great pain when their heads tilt forward, so I'm sure it was an accommodation. The weight gain is obvious, but she still has good comedy timing.
Mary! me all you like, but I only watched about 10 seconds of that Annette Funicello video when she was in the late stages of MS. It was all I could take. I truly hope Christina's disease never reaches that point.

I suppose we'll never get another performance of that dance interpretation of River Phoenix's death.
Bummer.
