Wegovy
I am about to try this, but the linked site is making me nervous. For every post about losing 30 pounds in 2 or 3 months, there are 5 about losing much slower and having really horrific side effects. I had glanced at this before talking to the prescribing doctor and I asked if there was any chance I’d get too nauseated to go to work. He looked shocked and said he’d had just one person he had prescribed an anti nausea drug for. There are also a lot about hair loss. I don’t need to lose 3 pounds a week, if I’m losing just 1 most weeks, that would be fantastic. But feeling really sick constantly to lose 3-4 pounds a month seems nuts. I’d lose faster just taking a drug designed to cause nausea and diarrhea! Which is what it making me sort of suspicious about these reviews. How can you be really sick all the time and still not lose weight?
Are all of these reviews just written by drug companies with competing products or big crybabies? What’s the real story?

R4, my issue is snacking at night and taking ADHD meds late in the day would keep me awake at night. I have a little trouble sleeping.

Wegovy didnt stop my night snacking. I dont feel nauseous or have any side effects. It has been over a month. I still feel hungry and dont feel like it is working for me. Someone asked me Friday if I had lost weight and that I look slimmer so maybe it is working. I dont think it is the miracle drug theyre touting it as

Don't do it. It's a waste of money. You can get your weight under control if you want to. Whatever weight you lose from this appetite suppressant will just come back and you will feel even more defeated. As far as late night snacking - if you don't buy it, you can't eat it.

My weight is under control. The problem is that it’s under control 30 above where it should be. I lost 40 pounds a year ago and have kept it off.
I’ve tried the nit having any food around at night, but I usually eat dinner at home, so I have food at home. That are area where I can re-double my efforts, but doing that and trying wegovy are not mutually exclusive.

Suit yourself, OP/R8. But I don't have to be psychic to predict that it will not work.

Wegovy does work very well, my cousin is on it, OP. She’s lost 30 lbs and counting. One thing to remember is don’t lie down after eating. That might cause a bit of nausea. Otherwise, no real side effects.
R9, when people get older they sometimes need help. My cousin had four kids (I know, I know) and is having a hard time taking the weight off. She has a lot to lose so I don’t begrudge her getting help. And you can always go back on it if you’ve gained some back, but actually you can be on it for life.

I'm on second week of Mounjaro here, 2.5 mg/week. It has noticeably curbed my appetite. But only 1 pound lost so far. Will keep at it plus better diet and more regular exercise.

Turns out it’s semaglutide which is ?generic? Wegovy from a compounding pharmacy. I’ve been on it less that a week at only 12.5 mg. Not sure of the units, but it’s half what people usually start at and I’ll bump up every week instead of every month (but smaller increments). I like that just in case it disagrees with me. I figure I’ll notice it sooner and any negative side effects won’t be as bad.
So far I don’t think I’ve noticed anything. I’ve been doing a little better with the night snacking, but I think that’s more motivation than the drug. No unpleasant side effects, though. Have not lost weight.

In school there were always kids who’d go through the most ridiculous shenanigans and subversions to cheat on exams. Ingenious methods to sneak in crib notes, infiltrating file cabinets to steal the test, etc. They definitely spent more time and energy devising ways to cheat than if they had just studied or prepped. All I can figure is that it’s more gratifying to find a way to “get over” than it is to do the work.

Update: I’ve only lost about 8 pounds, but I think that’s pretty good considering it was over the holidays, vacation, short, dark days, and I’m still only up to 0.50mg / week (I started at 0.125, not 12.5).
I have had some trouble with nausea, often in the middle of the night or very early morning. So it’s unpleasant, but doesn’t keep me from eating because I don’t normally eat at 2am. There have been a few times when I’ve experienced nausea during the day and it’s not enough to affect my work, but I wasn’t able to exercise. That issue seems to be resolving, but is not completely gone. It’s not terrible, though. Like a very mild hangover.
The only thing I am doing differently is not snacking at night. My diet could be healthier or “cleaner” but my eating habits were not that bad to start, with the exception of the night snacking.
I’ll probably increase the dose next week to 62.5 and then maybe stay there. If I can successfully lose weight on a lower dose then why go higher? Also, I do exercise and I think if I were losing 2 or 3 pounds every week it would be harder to maintain muscle. I’m happy to do this slowly and hopefully reprogram my eating habits to eliminate the night snacking.

Sigh.
Remember when we could get phenylpropanolamine OTC?
Pop about 4 of those and you’ll actually forget to eat.
Of course, you might have a stroke.

Hair loss is a possibility on Wegovy? How dire.
Good luck on the weight loss journeys, you guys; I’m sure we’ll soon be reading stories about how you’re healthier, more confident and ready to slut it up in time for summer.

Starting week 10 of Mounjaro, which is a Wegovy competitor. Have lost about 20 pounds, and haven't really exercised although I'm about to start. The drug is interesting in that it has killed my food cravings and I get a sensation of fullness when I eat much more quickly than before I started taking it. I have been making better food choices -- less processed foods, fewer carbohydrates, less alcohol (way less alcohol), more leafy green vegetables, leaner proteins, etc.
R21, what's wrong with sluting it up for the summer?

[quote] It seems to be the holy grail weight-loss drug right now.
Yeah, and like all fads it's having serious unintended consequences. In this case, it's making it nearly impossible for diabetic people who really need the drug to not be able to get it. Thanks a lot.

I’m guessing that 90% of the diabetic people taking it would never have developed diabetes had they simply “dieted and exercised.” It is better to make people wait until they are diabetic before prescribing something that helps?
And isn’t it only the Wegovy and Ozempic brand versions that are in short supply? Is there a shortage of generic semaglutide? I think the pharmacy I am getting it from is making it.

I took Ozempic injection during the. Slowly ramped up from 0.25 mg/ week to 1mg/week and had no real side effects other than constipation (as I really had no desire to eat). I lost about 20 lbs.
I couldn’t get any for the month of October due to short supply, but finally restarted at 1 mg/week (my last dosage).
Honest to god I started shutting watery diarrhea so much that I had to buy adult diapers. I was shitting when I laughed and ,worse, during the night when I farted.
I was mortified.

R27, I think some compounding pharmacies are making it, but there is no generic yet for Wegovy/Ozempic. I don’t know if I would trust a compound.

If you get diabetes from being overweight, you’re going to end up on Ozempic anyway, so why not just start taking it now (Wegovy) and get the weight off and avoid the ‘beetus? Seems like a win-win.

[quote]Whatever weight you lose from this appetite suppressant will just come back and you will feel even more defeated.
It’s not an appetite suppressant. It alters glucose metabolism, and weight loss is a side-effect.

I just saw my cousin over Christmas who is taking it. She was always very obese, and she had a gastric bypass about 20 years ago. She gained back all of that weight and then some over the years. When I just saw her she is absolutely SKINNY since being on Wegovy. She said was going to talk to the doctor about stopping it because she’s actually under her ideal weight.

Semaglutide is the generic, isn’t it R29?
I agree that there are could be issues with trusting a mom and pop pharmacy versus a presumably more highly regulated big drug manufacturer. But it’s not like I’m buying it off a street corner.

It is, r34, but it’s not available for sale as a generic drug. Eli Lilly still owns the patent.

[quote]According to the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding, compounding pharmacies, which have less stringent regulations, may be able to use semaglutide in compounded products because it is not a "biologic" and is a component of an FDA-approved product.
Sounds like a gray area legally and potentially less safe, but OTOH, I’m not keeping anything out of the hands of a diabetic with a greater need.

R36, I’m not sure actually. I know that the drug isn’t available as a generic but I don’t understand how compound pharmacies work (and I have heard some of them are fraudulent and you have to be careful). Maybe someone can help. Here’s the Google definition: “They're able to make customized medications if you need a medication that's not commercially available. Compounded medications aren't FDA-approved. But compounding pharmacies are regulated and monitored for quality purposes.”
Basically, I think the compound pharmacy can make a medicine specifically for you, but they can’t manufacture it and sell it.

I don't know why they can't ramp up production of this drug since there's a lot of demand for it. They don't seem to have any trouble making enough unnecessary hormones for all the trannies demanding them.

R40, in fact, there isn’t a demand for hormones, which is why there isn’t a shortage. What is it with the trans obsession? You must be projecting.
