I take breaks because the paranoia, negativity and obnoxious trolling is too much at the time. So I'll log for a few days and come back on. But every internet forum is like this. DL is a throwback site to those days of poorly moderated forums and web groups

No, I lead a fairly charmed life and am happy and try to be kind. But it's not that I never think wicked thoughts if the wider, stupider world. Data Lounge is a place to keep a hand in the game should I have the rare use of a sharp retort.

DL certainly has a reputation on other gay sites for being filled with nasty cunts. It's the "Anonymous" aspect that makes gays who already have a propensity for cuntiness be extra cunty. It can be fun or pathetically tiresome and time-wasting.

I love DL, and I love that it skews older. Older gays have certain shared experiences that have formed who we are. I love that professionals from interesting diverse fields share their perspective. I see the best side of DL because I'm all over the cat threads.

I've always been cynical and sarcastic and I've had to rein it in. People have said to me, 'I can't believe you just said that!' So I let it out on DL, though I have never attacked or belittled anyone here - life's hard enough for everyone, even assholes, and I don't want to add to the misery.

There are some great movie and TV threads on here that I love reading. I love when posters share their experiences of films and television shows from years ago. I know it's not some made-up bullshit.

The straight women on here are far and away the worst when it comes to the use of bitter and hate-filled language, reflecting their personal problems they have in real life that cause them to try to make everyone here be as miserable as they are. No, though there have been a few times when I've been frustrated by something on DL and gotten snippy briefly in real life because of it. Not often, that was always far more likely to happen with me with Twitter, back when I was still on it.

I do think it's kind of weird to see so many complaints about light teasing, though. You might say something casual like "hey r53, your question was answered in r52" and someone will reply "god damn do you have to be such a cunt about it??!" I figure those folks are not a lot of fun to be around in real life.
